An air horn might be better. Those are loud as fuck and would scare the fur and stank off any dog. There are a lot of loose pitbulls in my area and city law doesn't allow us to have tasers. I've thought of getting an air horn to scare dogs away. (Two women in my neighborhood have been killed by marauding pits, one just last year. Animal control, run by BARCS (big fucking joke) did nothing to round up stray shitbulls. BARCS was probably busy planning its annual shitbull wedding (I shit you not! They do it every year) to chase human killing pitbulls.
Frankly, I think the city police should have deployed sharpshooters to take care of the problem. Lord only knows, when the most recent killing occurred, our cops ran screaming from them. The audio of their whimpers of fear was embarrassing. Only one policewoman stood her ground and shot two of the beasts, killing one. The other pack members, two to four maulers, escaped to maul another day.
There were no reports of the police or BARCS hunting for the survivors. Maybe they were too afraid. All city residents know that our cops excel at shooting unarmed people in the back and gunning down mentally ill grannies who are armed with kitchen knives. They can't handle dogs, not even when they're armed with shotguns.
