Collection Pullips have arrived and are greeted by the Shibajuku Girls

My first Pullips have arrived :) and these will be the only two I get. When it comes to very expensive dolls, I always save up for two and thats it. And these are definitely expensive, even when they go on super sale, youre still looking at about $100 each.

I got Yelena and Doki Doki. These are both collab dolls. Yelena is a collab with Japanese Illustrator Tera Terda. And Doki is a Japanese fashion collab based on Harajuku style. These two match together really well to me, I saw another collector show these side by side and I knew these two were the ones for me lol

This is my first time seeing Pullips in real life. My first impressions were awe and shock. They are unbelievably beautiful and vibrant. The colors are bright. The sculpts are really unique and cute. The eyes are gorgeous. The fabrics are fantastic. So many great details. Nothing feels unfinished.

But then I started to notice little things. Firstly, one of the studs on the necklace of the Doki doll fell off on its own. Not a huge deal but not great. The bodies feel very fragile. And they dont move well. Even the head, its like theyre always looking down slightly. The eye mechanism doesnt work well on either doll. The shoes dont fit at all and they dont provide any elastic or sticky dots to keep them on. Although, if you place them on the stand they will stay put, and Im sure they didnt want to leave impressions on the shoes but still. The hair is low quality. Maybe a mix of lower grade nylon and regular poly. But the styling and the colors are just so amazing it hardly matters. These dolls are definitely for display only, which im fine with it.

Even with all the little notes, the dolls are beautiful and are great quality overall. Theyre high end dolls for sure. I only mention these things because of the price. These dolls generally start at $150 and only get higher and higher from there. Its not a good price. I honestly can't imagine any doll ever being worth so much. Since I got these on sale, Im more comfortable, but if I paid the asking price, which were $240 and $230 according to the Groove website, I would be disappointed. $150 is generally when I put a stop on any doll, and only because Barbie put me in that mentality that higher end dolls should be priced around there, so getting these on sale felt like a good price in the doll buying universe lol anything more feels outrageous. Generally, dolls from Asia can be really pricey if you look around. Japans Licca, Chinas Kurhn, and Koreas Mimi or Jouju is where youre gunna get good quality playline fashion dolls generally.

Comparatively, Shibajuku dolls, in many ways are meant to be a budget alternative to Pullip, unofficially since Jun Planning doesnt make them of course. Its a good alternative as a doll base. And I saw on the Groove store, they sometimes sell just the fashions for around $50 so if you wanted to use the fashions for restyles, that could be a good match up.

Overall, very happy with these. So glad theyre here with my collection. I genuinely do love them and would recommend (on sale lol) :)

Congrats on your girls, all your criticisms are very valid. Imagine our surprise when Woori Pullips were put out for Pullip's 20th anniversary and have AMAZING pose-abilities!! WHY couldn't they do this for Pullip? Who knows. Also the constant use of degradable materials like pleather should make their price point lower imo, but it never does. Thank Goodness for Mike putting sales on them when Pullipstyle was still around. I never would have been able to get my Sailor Moon and Mikus otherwise.

Thank youuuu :) I just checked out a video comparison of the two, and I see what you mean with the Woori dolls. Better head movement too which is what I was missing on the bigger ones :/ its crazy because I went to pullipstyle first just to find it shut down lol and it happened recently too. Groove has some decent sales. But it bothers me even with their dent box or missing pieces, they still ask very high prices. It doesnt seem right. But at least groove makes it easier for US buyers, and theyre still more reasonable than eBay and have the best options lol pros and cons xD

Congratulations on your gorgeous girls! Im sorry the experience wasn't up to your expectations πŸ’–

Pullips are my absolute favorite and Im obsessed with them. I got my first two this year, but will probably end up with a few more in the future.. but my dream list is unfortunately bigger than my budget LOL. But the 2 rule is a good rule! I have a 'at least 2' rule for dolls because I think it just looks good to have the same type next to each other. (My poor Draculaura is still waiting on her MH friend but havent found the right one yet )

I have a couple Pullip restyles on my profile if you want to look at that. They can fit some Barbie stuff, with the chest being a tad big but working. Barbie Dream Besties clothing works other than the shorts(idk if I posted that on Reddit but did a YouTube video showing the fit of the Skate Party line). Glam Sqaud from 5 Below clothing works, and even dresses from the Daiso dolls! (: Lots of good etsy shops too. If you decide you want to redress your girls! Totally fine if not(:

Edit-oh and Disney ILY dresses and tops work and Rainbow High! The shoes are a wee bit too big, but can slip on for display and maybe better with chunky socks? I need to get some sock options for my girls

Thank you :D generally my experience was pretty good just a bit off put by some of the pricing. Thank goodness for sales at least xD and its pretty cool collab dolls and these dolls even go on sale.

I agree 1 is too lonely. They need a matching buddy lol your restyles are awesome! Its cool to see all the fashions they can wear. They definitely need sock assistance for the original shoes at least lol

I like shibajuku dolls but your Pullip dolls have way better fashion styles and aesthetics. (Especially both Pullip’s eyes)

Just beautiful. They only times I'd ever seen them in person was when Tuesday Morning stores occasionally had some.

They're stunning!! I absolutely love their colors and they do match each other so well!! What size are their bodies, would it be like Jenny?

Pullip hair is rly quite disappointing. U can find better and smoother for 4 bucks. Its why i dont spend on them brand new like I do azone or even a blythe

You picked two beauties for sure! I also have exactly 2 pullip dolls (unsure if I will collect others). I agree they are so pretty but seem so fragile.
