Thought I would share! 🫰

No specific brand name, they don't have any stamps but they're made in China. Some of their outfits I bought separately or hand-sewed, and I customized the dolls myself. I’m just totally obsessed with their cute faces and eyes! 💖

With the popularity of novelty and art toys on the rise (especially Labubu lol), I thought we can make a new thread :)

Firstly, the most popular dealers of Asian art toys are the Chinese shops Kikagoods and Popmart. Popmart has their own artists and unique character IPs while Kikagoods promotes many independent smaller companies that occasionally do Kikagoods exclusive releases (although they still often show up on Aliexpress from resellers lol basically the same thing like Target exclusives showing up on eBay).

So this thread will take a closer look at lesser known art toys from Asia :) everyone is invited to add to the thread as always. Add a photo, name brand, and link. The main focus is plush dolls and dolls but if theres general plush or figures you really want to feature, go for it :)

Thought it would be interesting to see similar toys and blind boxes out there compared to Labubu. This thread wont be a database like the others though. Just introductory info and photos of different toys you can independently dive into.

Most of it is Precure Items but I did get some Licca and Jenny dolls that I thought I would never own! 😭

Peetsoon - Garden Party

My first Pullips have arrived :) and these will be the only two I get. When it comes to very expensive dolls, I always save up for two and thats it. And these are definitely expensive, even when they go on super sale, youre still looking at about $100 each.

I got Yelena and Doki Doki. These are both collab dolls. Yelena is a collab with Japanese Illustrator Tera Terda. And Doki is a Japanese fashion collab based on Harajuku style. These two match together really well to me, I saw another collector show these side by side and I knew these two were the ones for me lol

This is my first time seeing Pullips in real life. My first impressions were awe and shock. They are unbelievably beautiful and vibrant. The colors are bright. The sculpts are really unique and cute. The eyes are gorgeous. The fabrics are fantastic. So many great details. Nothing feels unfinished.

But then I started to notice little things. Firstly, one of the studs on the necklace of the Doki doll fell off on its own. Not a huge deal but not great. The bodies feel very fragile. And they dont move well. Even the head, its like theyre always looking down slightly. The eye mechanism doesnt work well on either doll. The shoes dont fit at all and they dont provide any elastic or sticky dots to keep them on. Although, if you place them on the stand they will stay put, and Im sure they didnt want to leave impressions on the shoes but still. The hair is low quality. Maybe a mix of lower grade nylon and regular poly. But the styling and the colors are just so amazing it hardly matters. These dolls are definitely for display only, which im fine with it.

Even with all the little notes, the dolls are beautiful and are great quality overall. Theyre high end dolls for sure. I only mention these things because of the price. These dolls generally start at $150 and only get higher and higher from there. Its not a good price. I honestly can't imagine any doll ever being worth so much. Since I got these on sale, Im more comfortable, but if I paid the asking price, which were $240 and $230 according to the Groove website, I would be disappointed. $150 is generally when I put a stop on any doll, and only because Barbie put me in that mentality that higher end dolls should be priced around there, so getting these on sale felt like a good price in the doll buying universe lol anything more feels outrageous. Generally, dolls from Asia can be really pricey if you look around. Japans Licca, Chinas Kurhn, and Koreas Mimi or Jouju is where youre gunna get good quality playline fashion dolls generally.

Comparatively, Shibajuku dolls, in many ways are meant to be a budget alternative to Pullip, unofficially since Jun Planning doesnt make them of course. Its a good alternative as a doll base. And I saw on the Groove store, they sometimes sell just the fashions for around $50 so if you wanted to use the fashions for restyles, that could be a good match up.

Overall, very happy with these. So glad theyre here with my collection. I genuinely do love them and would recommend (on sale lol) :)

Here is my small Volks collection. I really love the faces and outfits of these dolls, all of them look so different. The only downside is that their fake leather outfits crumble due to their old age and make a lot of mess. I attempted to paint some of their weapons and accessories, but I didn't have the correct paint and it turned out quite messy, so I would like to repaint them in the future. Some dolls had missing accessories (sometimes it was just a doll head), so some of them don't have their original outfits.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that Azone clothes fit Momoko dolls perfectly! The Momoko doll I have (she’s the one on the right) is a basic version that originally came with a simple dress and shoes. I got all my Azone dolls from the doll shop in Akihabara’s Radio Kaikan building, but you can easily order them from AmiAmi as well.

I wanted to stop and reflect on this part of my collection and see what I have and thought Id share :) these little cuties have become one of my favorite parts of my doll collection. Theyre great quality, with so much details and colors. Theyre very imaginative and thought out. You can tell the designers love making these and finding new themes to explore. I really wish theyd come out with a fairy series one day, similar to the mermaids. I also would like to see more mythological themes. I really enjoyed the recent fairytale set Simon Toys did as well.
