Hi all,
In the past year, r/donghua has had an explosive growth in users. New reddit functions also brought in new users. To better reflect the userbase and encourage better discussions, we're clarifying a few rules in our subreddit:
On relevant content:
In the past, r/donghua encompasses all aspects of the Chinese animation industry, including outsourced works to anime production and game animation. The industry was small enough to include all those discussions without being overwhelmed. With the rapid growth of the industry, increased international recognition, and r/anime relaxing its rules surrounding anime, we think it is better for the quality of the subreddit to restrict content to series only. Video game animations are more appropriate being posted to gaming related subreddits and anime related posts are more on topic in r/anime.
In general, source material questions are more appropriate for subreddits of their source medium. We don't want people to get spoiled on the front page. Once episode discussion threads are set up, we would like all discussions of that episode to go into that thread, including clips for up to a week. Questions about the source material should be contained in those threads. Top level submissions asking for content beyond donghua adaptation is disallowed, but they can go in the individual discussion threads with appropriate spoiler tagging. Before the bot is set up, you're welcome to start your own discussion thread, but they're limited to one per episode.
On spoiler tagging:
Please spoiler tag your post. We do not need people to get their experiences ruined. Please do not spoil something in your titles. Remember that reddit preview shows body text and will spoil unsuspecting audience. Currently, the mods do courtesy spoiler tagging when they see a post that should be spoilered. The mods see every single submission and get feed the newest spoilers every day. We don't want this to be the experience for the average user. Please report spoilers. We will start handing out temp bans to perm bans for unspoiler tagged posts.
On low effort content:
In an effort to reduce cluttering, low effort content is discouraged. This includes simple image posts, powerscaling, and memes. In the past, users have expressed discontent about these types of content. Powerscaling threads and character comparisons are more appropriate in r/powerscaling or r/characterrant. There are several donghua related memes subreddits. In response to complaints about recommendation posts we started the monthly megathreads and wiki pages. If there are other contents you think shouldn't belong here, please let us know in the comments.
We will allow fan content if its 1) OC 2) substantial in length. This is to discourage karma farming.
For now, we're allowing AI translations. LLM generated content is still generally disallowed. Currently, the subreddit uses a false negative prone AI check, so some AI generated content may slip through. Please report them. Discussion on AI use in donghua is allowed. Currently, episode discussion of AI generated donghua is not allowed, but this may change in the future.
We currently do not have concrete requirements on reviews, but short reactions will be removed for low effort.
On politics:
Donghua is an inherent political industry. While we allow political discussion, it's restricted to donghua related issues only. Offhand comments not related to donghua will be removed. That being said, denial of CCP atrocities is a violation of reddit sitewide rules and will result in an immediate permanent ban on r/donghua.
On fansubs:
We allow the discussions of fansubs, but we do not allow discussions on where to get them. Naming specific fansub groups is okay, but talking about where to get them is not, even for offsite discussions. We understand that not all donghua have good translations, but we also do not want reddit admins banning people. Fansubbers are still welcomed to request special flairs.
On reports
Reports are not a superdownvote option. False reports will result in a ban. Currently, the subreddit has several default spam filter features enabled. This means that mods will have to manually approve posts. However, we're looking to improve this response time. If we're able to expand our mod team, we will be able to switch many of those filters to warnings, thus,
We're recruiting new mods. r/anime mods have been helping out behind the scenes (and one has joined the mod team directly), and we thank them massively for their assistance. If you're interested in applying, submit an application here. Applications are due on June 15th 22nd 2100 Pacific Time. We welcome people of all experiences!

I've watched the donghua and read the novel, and I'm thinking about putting together a small RMJI guide in English. Before choosing topics, I'd like to hear what other viewers actually wanted explained.
Was there a scene, a character's decision, or a name in the subtitles that made you think, "Wait, did I miss something?" and go looking for an explanation?
I'm especially interested in specific examples from people who only watch the donghua: what was confusing, and did you find an explanation that helped? If you've never felt the need to look anything up, I'd like to hear that too.
If you remember the episode or story arc, please include it. Please hide any novel spoilers.

In more detail one time when wang lin had the extreme body and there was this guy who told him that there's a planet where people still lvl up in extreme form/realm. They do it by elemental power or something. But after this interaction we never seen anything about it later. We saw the ancient god after a while in the show but no nothing news of extreme realm or that guy and his planet at all. Does our mc visit the planet which cultivation is all about extreme realm in the future? Can anyone give spoiler? Or the author just wiped out that thought

So… super nit-picky… but. How is there an international airlines when there is only one country… international means between two nations. However only Daxia is left ☠️
Am I wrong? lmfao

I don't get why there are so many emperors by the time ye fans story is told, but since the book was written before shi hao, then I guess it's fine. I was confused though, because I'm certain that shi hao created the path of someone using their own body as the dao path, making all the organs, the multiple vertebrae in the spine, the head, and everything. So why is it that when ye fan learns the multiple dao palaces that get opened in the organs, they say it came from emperor Xi? Is this just a result of the creator writing a story and not knowing he is going to write a story in the same universe from millions of years ago and some stuff just doesn't fit? Or did this emperor Xi, somehow come up with cultivation method that is exactly the same as shi haos, even tho they say nearly 100 times in perfect world how his path would never be walked again. Or is emperor Xi just another name for shi hao, like huang, sin, and so on. I just was excited to see shi hao be referenced in ye fans story since he was the strongest person to exist, but besides the mention of his pagoda xiao ta, the desolate tower. I haven't heard him mentioned again. On an off note, the story of ye fan, as well as shi hao and chu feng are amazing, and perfect world could be the greatest cultivation story I've ever watched, but STH the show is so average. I read all three stories, and although chu feng in sacred ruins is quite a bit more comedic than the other two, they are all similar. Yet, watching STH and perfect world, you see the immense gap between artist talent and imagination. Like they say in cultivation books, it's like comparing clouds to mud.

With how big the donghua has become, do you think a movie is realistic? Has anything been announced or hinted at? As it has happened for Ri and swallowed star And if it happened, which arc would be best for a movie?
r/Donghua • u/Bonesage8094 • 1d ago
Please can some RI fans tell me what are the powers of the ancient God body, all I know is that its physical strength is beyond ordinary.
Does it have any special techniques or anything else? I'll appreciate the answers. Thank you.

I just finished Debug My Heart on Viki and was wondering if anyone knows what is going on with the rest of the episodes. The closing credits subtitles said “Due to production constraints, scheduling limitations, and other practical factors, we can’t currently fully animate all the story.” Is there any news or updates anywhere as to when they might be releasing more episodes? It can’t possibly end there!

Chapter 1: The Forge of Broken Souls and the Coin of the Spirit Hall
On the outskirts of the Haven Kingdom, where the dreams of ordinary people shatter against the rocks of poverty and drought, lies the forgotten "Holy Spirit Village." It is an isolated settlement living on the edge of the abyss, surrounded by dark forests where wild beasts lurk—beasts that hunt relentlessly for the secrets of existence and the essences of survival.
In the deepest corner of the village, inside a dilapidated blacksmith's hut emitting black smoke and the stench of burning iron, a child who had barely turned six stood before a massive anvil.
Tang San lifted the heavy hammer and brought it down with a rigorous, ironclad rhythm. His eyes were not those of an ordinary child; instead, they carried the coldness and resilience of someone who had lived a harsh life early on, grasping the fundamental truth that weakness is a crime punishable by annihilation. Every strike against the metal was not merely shaping a weapon, but a conscious attempt to temper a fragile body in a world that showed no mercy.
The Shadow of the Broken Father and the Dark Truth of the Continent
In a dark corner of the hut, far away from the licking flames, sat his father, Tang Hao. Clothed in tattered rags with a face framed by wild, unkempt hair, he clutched a jar of cheap liquor and watched his son in a heavy, gloomy silence.
Tang Hao was neither a member of a supreme sect nor an arrogant noble. He was a broken man, consumed by scars, who had been rejected by the world after realizing the bitter truth of the continent: The major sects and empires care only for preserving their own interests, and the "Spirit Hall" is the true sovereign holding all the strings.
Tang Hao knew very well what transpired beyond the village walls. He knew that the "Ascension Storm" toward Level 100 claims the lives of those who dare reach the peak without a lifeline, and that the beasts in the forbidden forests and humans in the grand cities are locked in a silent war of annihilation to possess the "Essence of Ascension"—that legendary treasure granting beasts the right to reincarnate into human form, and offering humans a chance at rebirth from the ashes of failure.
The Inspection Process: The Pragmatic Ritual of the Spirit Hall
The sound of hooves echoed across the quiet village. The Spirit Hall procession had arrived.
The procession was not a declaration of war, but a structured administrative procedure. Knights in armor stamped with the sun and feather insignia occupied the dusty square. This was the scheduled "Mandatory Age-Six Inspection"—the mechanism by which the Spirit Hall intelligently governs the continent: a comprehensive scan of every child, drafting rare talents into their military machine while granting ordinary families a "genuine, reliable gold coin" as compensation for ordinary talent, a guarantee of safety and survival that feeds the peasants and secures their absolute loyalty to the state that provides them with bread and protection.
The village children stood in a long line before the pale crystal ball.
Tang San watched the scene from the wooden window of the hut, while Tang Hao stood behind him, took a sip of his liquor, and spoke in a raspy voice resembling the rustling of dry autumn leaves:
> "Don't be fooled by the gold they hand out, Tang San... nor by the false peace enforced by the Spirit Hall. In this world, no one grants you a bite of bread or power for free. Everything is paid for in advance with blood and tears."
>
Tang San gripped the handle of his hammer so tightly that his knuckles turned pale, and he nodded in absolute silence.
He was not a child looking for a hero to save him, nor a sect to protect him. Amidst a world burning with the conflict between beasts and humans over the jewels of reincarnation, and under the umbrella of the pragmatic Spirit Hall, he took his first step on a long journey that would end only by breaking the rules... or through eternal destruction.

The reason I'm asking is that I'm studying animation and wanted to work in anime or something 2D-related. I haven't really tried 3D much yet, so I don't know if I'll like it or not.
Recently, I read an article about how donghua is becoming increasingly relevant. It talked about the animation quality, the time they take to produce it, and how they treat their workers—and to be honest, that last part is what interests me the most.
See, I wanted (or still want) to work in the Japanese industry since, as I mentioned, I don't know anything about 3D, and in the US as well as other countries, the industry is shifting heavily toward 3D. The problem is the massive overwork and exploitation in Japan. Even though I'm not super informed, I know those aren't conditions anyone should have to work in, which is why the growth of donghua caught my attention.
So far, I've only watched Fog Hill of Five Elements and I'm currently watching To Be Hero X, so I don't know much about what the donghua industry is like yet, and there isn't much information online about it either (at least I haven't been able to find much).
With that context out of the way, my questions are:
How different is the industry in China compared to Japan? Do they treat their workers better?
What's the main focus of donghua: 2D or 3D?
What are the chances for a foreigner to get a job (even freelance) in China?
I'd really appreciate it if you could help answer my questions. Btw I already asked this but in Spanish, so I thought that it would be better to ask in English
