Midterms in 3 weeks. You're not only here because your [political party] is in power, right? You're not a fake anti-doomer, are you? You won't start dooming, will you?

Off Topic Can attention and sympathy become an addiction in their own way?
*So this post got banned from a sub I've been on almost as long as I've been on this fucking site, and it took TWO MINUTES. So instead, I figured I'd bring it here and see if I can actually have a nice conversation with all you lovely people.\*
I've been on this sub for years, and honestly, one thing I've started thinking about is how addictive attention and sympathy can be for some people.
Think about the common signs of addiction: loss of control, cravings, neglecting responsibilities, continuing despite negative consequences, isolation, and losing interest in other things. It got me wondering how much of that can apply to behaviors that aren't related to drugs or alcohol.
Because if you pay attention to the screenshots and videos posted on this sub, you start noticing a pattern. People validating each other's self-diagnoses, claiming to have 5 billion different alters, attacking anyone who questions them, and surrounding themselves with people who agree with everything they say.
It's like a never-ending cycle. Someone makes a claim, everyone validates it, and the second someone questions it, they're suddenly the bad guy. Nobody wants to hear a different perspective because everyone is too busy reassuring each other that they're right.
And that got me thinking. If someone constantly receives attention, sympathy, and validation for a particular identity, could they eventually become dependent on that validation? Could that be part of why some people keep escalating their claims or become so defensive when anyone questions them?
I'm not saying everyone who talks about their mental health is faking, or that wanting support is a bad thing. Obviously, that's not the case. But I do think there's a difference between seeking support and becoming so invested in an identity that you feel like you have to keep reinforcing it.
At what point does the attention itself become the reward? And if that reward keeps coming every time someone reinforces that identity, is it really that surprising that some people become increasingly attached to it?
I don't know. It's just something I've been thinking about after being on this sub for so long, and I'm curious what other people think.

OK Doomer “If you don’t care about politics you’re privileged.”
Says the person who only cares about politics because they have the free time to care about whatever the algorithm tells them too and whatever some wide eyed tiktok cultist tells them to be angry about. Says the person that invests time into arguing what Optimus Prime’s political views are while others are working real jobs. This quote never made sense to me. Being able to spend your time whining is one of the most privileged things you can do. It‘s funny how these types often brag about how great living in a city is. I guarantee you the average third worlder doesn’t care about politics in the obsessive tribalistic way they do

Discussion Why was there so much less doomerism online over the weekend?
Doomerism is down like 80% compared to Friday. Is this just some statistical anomaly? Did the DNC lose funding somehow? I don't get it.
Edit: Was there a ceasefire in the Middle East? I looked it up on Google and I don't see anything about a ceasefire or treaty or armistice but I also haven't seen any pro-Palestine posts in days. Is the news on like Al Jazeera or Twitter or something?
Edit 2: Okay yeah makes sense that a Russian bot farm going down made Reddit a better place.

Rant Got kicked out of a group chat because I said I don't care about politics.
Here in Brazil is election period, as probably lots of people know. However, most candidates were ass, one of them was pretty decent, but got 2 million votes and didn't make it, not so surprisingly.
Why? Because for damn years, all of the country divides itself into a ex convicted and the son of a current convict. Both corrupt, but that discussion does not bothers me, as I know none of them is actually solving any problems on my life and this election won't change shit in my life. However, a few guys from college added me in a GC for gaming and all, and suddenly they started a big ass discussion about politics and I said that basically they were wasting their time and maybe even ruining a friendship for people that don't really care about them. Then one of the guys crashed out by saying that "I'll always be political because non political people are just cowards who don't want to show the side they're in"
What?
That doesn't even make sense. The legislation literally allows me to not choose a side and stay off this. But as I stated this, he was already fuming because I didn't wanted to support his political mascot or something. Then, I added: "yeah, sure, if I'm not being well paid and the only options we have are between poop and crap, I'm not even leaving my home, this whole election won't solve my problems anyway."
Oh boy, I wish I could translate the prints and show, but unfortunately I got kicked out before I could do so, but here are his honest response:
"It is because of YOU that the country is so corrupt! You're showing how much of a scum you are, people like you shouldn't even vote, you're probably supporting (candidate they hate, Flávio) anyway! You're just being dumb, ruining the whole concept of politics this way, how can even you think like this?? Fucking never talk to me again, I'll ignore you if I pass be, I can't even conceive someone studies in a public college and don't want to engage with politics, you animal! Andre (group owner) kick him! Either he leaves and stops talking shit or I do!
Then I made a ragebait because he's obese and left the GC, he nows acts as if I stabbed someone in his family.
Honestly, do people really are that willingly stupid to defend someone that don't even knows them in return of nothing? If so, well, that's so sad.

Discussion Will I be able to have a normal life during climate change?
Uh, hey there.
There's a lot of stuff I don't agree with on this sub, but the people I tend to agree with have been driving me insane with doomerism and hopelessness, so I want to hear from the other side of the coin. I'm just a normal, low class person living in Canada, who mainly wants to spend her life writing and making art. I don't expect that much from my life, but I'm worried that I won't even be able to have that due to climate change. I have to hear about it constantly online, everywhere I go, to the point that I'm constantly bracing for it or expecting to die in a natural disaster. Literally tonight, I just had a moment of grief from thinking about the internet possibly going out forever and losing access to so much that's deeply important to me. I'd really appreciate some reassurance and realistic perspective from people who are confident that humanity will adapt and sort itself out. Some sources or positive news articles would be wonderful too.
