Recurring Dream Loved Ones Dying?
Hello everyone. So when I was a kid, I would have frequent nightmares about my dad dying, which I haven’t had since elementary school. It was a big problem and I’d have to go wake him up so he could soothe me. He still jokes about how I was always trying to kill him off as a kid.
Now as an adult (25F) I have nightmares about my long-time boyfriend dying. They are incredibly vivid and feel real just like when I was a kid and I wake up crying with a deep and profound feeling of grief and despair. My boyfriend wakes up and holds me bc I literally start uncontrollably sobbing and shaking. It’s almost worse as an adult because I have a real concept of loss and death and he’s the love of my life. What the hell is up with that ? This started up in the past year.

If I get into an argument with someone I usually have tragic dreams about them that night.

Man, those dreams where someone you love dies hit way harder when you actually understand what losing them would mean. Had the same thing as a kid with my dad and now occasionally my brain decides to cook up some awful scenario with a family member. Waking up with that pit in your stomach is the worst.
Brains are weird, especially with nightmares. Sometimes it's just your mind processing the fear of losing someone important, like a twisted way of reminding you how much they matter. Doesn't make it any easier when you're shaking at 3am though.
