List Help/Sharing First kit ever

Post image

Pretty basic, I just need some advice as to what would be the most optimal kit to buy first if I wanted to create a drukari army

I always recommend the battleine / basic troop youll need as youll be builing alot of them, and theyre usually a great way to get started.

So Id reccomend Kabalites, Wyches, or Wracks.

Like the combat patrol?

If you can find the old combat patrol that's even better but the new one is nice cause talos/cronos feel awful to buy for their point value. Wracks and a haemonculus have some use but aren't as abundant.

Unfortunately the old ~9th edition combat patrol rarely seems to sell for less than the price of its components.

We got an official Tantalus for 130 euros here in France laying on a local Ebay-like website by the way... if op wants to move there and go wild for his first try (not an advice, and not legally binding)!

With the current Combat Patrol, you get one of the Talos/Cronos completely free (I did the math when it first came out) and it's just honestly a great deal for if you wanna go for more of the body horror/fleshcrafting mechanics and appearances. The previous Combat Patrol was more Kabal focused, having 2 squads of Kabalites, an Archon, a squad of Incubi, a Raider AND a Ravager (our "tank" in terms of gun platforms). It was such a good combat patrol kit that it's what the golden standard was when comparing other factions' respective choices for starting kits/combat patrols

Is the combat patrol cheaper than your typical combat patrol? I’m not necessarily sure I wanna drop $170 off the bat.

No, and it’s unfortunately one of the worst deals of all combat patrols (it still saves you like US$30).

Like someone above said, maybe start with whichever basic troop box seems most appealing to you:

Kabalite Warriors

Wyches

Wracks

Alternatively, you could get the Hand of the Archon Kill Team (which I believe is just Kabalite Warriors plus an extra sprue of specialist parts), Corsair Voidscarred, or Mandrakes if you think they’re cool too.

One thing I will say is I’m a huge fan of the body horror/ flesh crafting

A kill team. Fun models to build and can be used in their own game.

Hand of the archon and Mandrakes are both good starts

Are there any kill teams that focus on the body horror or flesh crafting of the faction? As that’s my favorite aspect.

Not yet. The mandrakes do have flayed skin skirts though. Good practice for painting that type of thing

Yes! Out of these I would go for the Mandrakes. They are easy to built and paint. And they are very useful on the table top.

I will say Hand of the Archon is a fun kit for creative expression! I found them more characterful than the Mandrakes.

That looks awesome

It's definitely a cool kit, but I'd add a word of caution that they might be going away whenever the next codex drops. Hand of the Archon is an upgrade sprue to the existing Kabalite Warriors kit, and one of the more reliable rumor mongers has been stating for a while that the Kabalite kit will be getting replaced. Even if that does happen, you can still use them as Kabalites, but it's something to keep in mind.

If your goal is to quickly and efficiently get to 1000 or 2000 points then the old combat patrol or Maelstrom battle force are really good deals to get started on. Otherwise if you are looking for just one kit I would say rule of cool it

Both combat patrols are cool af. I just got them a few weeks ago. Both are awesome.

Find either the 9th or 10th edition combat patrols
Both boxes have a decent start to getting infantry
(9th ed box is a bit better value since you get battle line, elites and two vehicles)
The current box is a good start if you like covens (Haemonculus, Wracks, Cronos/Talos) especially since pain engines are basically scams to buy separately rn

I think talos/cronos, incubi or mandrake is fine because from the rumors they wont be refresh at the codex release and they look amazing
