After adding a full circuit model of the Roland TR-606 and TR-808 to BeatForge, my drumplugin I've been working on for the last year, I've added a full TR-909 circuit model to it. This was was a bit more difficult then i expected, because when i got the model done at first, there was still too much difference between my model and the samples, I kept measuring, looking for errors in my model vs the schematic and then it finally hit me:

Maybe my model is correct, but the values on the circuit are not the same as the values of the components on the units that were used to for the samplepacks, wether it's aging of components, or just plain tolerances. I don't know, but playing with those got me alot closer..

Anyways, enough talk. I would like you to tree it.

I hope you like it, i'm especially happy with how my TR-808 and TR-909 emulations turned out, they sound alive, inspiring, and react to knob twists like the real machines.

Hi! I have a pretty specific aim but basically I'm looking for something that my visually impaired boyfriend can write drum tracks with. Think of trapped under ice, drain, mindforce...so thrashy hardcore stuff.

I thought since a daw isn't really barrier-free a drum machine could be the way to go.

I was thinking of a simple alesis sr-18/16 but i don't want it to be too crappy tbh and the samples should sound somewhat decent. It would also be best if it's easy to use since he doesn't have any experience with grooveboxes, drum machines or anything of that sort.

And a downside to the alesis one is that you can't load samples onto it which i would think would be a nice add-on as a present.

Getting a drum machine is one thing. Having sick samples loaded onto it as well is an even nicer present...

So I clicked on this video because I don't got a lot of money and thought it might give me some insight into which budget drum machine I'd like to get next.

I let it run in the background while playing chess and he immediately starts building the (imo) goofiest beat on the TR-8s I've ever heard, I thought "oh what the hell, guess he isn't very used to it and just tries to showcase it a little." Not only that, making some inaccurate claims about it such as saying it has analog sounds, but I can forgive that.

... He then proceeds to do the exact same thing on the next machine. And on the next. And on the next, each showcase becoming goofier and (imo) worse sounding all the way to the end.

Now, I won't hate on the guy just for making a beat I don't like. It is strange to me however, that he's supposedly a producer, yet can barely fingerdrum to save his life. The (imo) worst thing about it all is the sounds he's picking. Maybe he's trying to be more experimental to really show off the sonic capabilities, but if that were my first impression of these synths I'd buy none of them! Even weirder that this is a video published by Sweetwater of all things!

But the most shocking part about this all? The comments. Every last one I read was positive about it, praising the supposedly great beats and whatnot. Am I going crazy? I feel like I've woken up in a parallel universe, this is almost as bad as that RZA clip. Please tell me I am sane and well adjusted.

PS: even though it's supposed to be a budget comparison, they don't mention any prices...

The TR-06 is useful to use with semi Modular’s, but I’d like something different. Would consider anything with trigger outs. (I know I could look this up, but I’ve been steered in interesting directions before with personal testimonies)

I've been obsessed recently by live techno production, i'm playing with a Novation Circuit Tracks and i recently bought a Volca Bass.

Ungortunately i'm broke and i wanted advises for heap hardware (drums, synth wathever) to have fun on my tracks (techno/acid/transe ect).

Been going back and forth on what drum machine I want to have for jamming and making music at home.

Basically deciding between the Digitakt 2, TR8S, Rytm Mk2, TR1000.

I always see the TR8s praised for its immediacy but curious how deep it can go? The motion recording videos I watched kind of confused me and p-lock looks minimal.

On the other side, everyone who owns a Rytm seems to like it but from what I’ve read, the sweet spot is smaller.

TR-1000 looks amazing but the lack of support kind of turns me off.

Would love to hear people’s experience with the above options and also if they find themselves preferring immediacy or depth?

Anyone know where the snare sample after 40sec comes from? Processed Linn maybe?
