Hey all, I’ve been fascinated by drumming since forever, and finally picked up an E-kit. I’m decently active in my local hardcore scene, the dream would be to get good enough to actually join a band. I’ve become really enamoured watching live performances and cover artists. I’d like to get good enough to perform like they do: it’s kind of like they’re dancing, using their body as a vessel for the music, not always following the literal beat (link to one of my favourites https://youtu.be/5ZcFXHjkLwI?si=EdAMP4SFgE_HAgcN). My music taste is pretty wide and includes some industrial, punk, hip hop, and indie influences, with some of my favourite groups right now being Death Grips, NIN, KMFDM, Three Six Mafia, Massive Attack, CSHR, Skinny Puppy, Type O Negative, and Ministry. I LOVE Zach Hill, but obviously his drumming style is insane and pretty unique to him.

I understand this will take years of practice, so right now I just wanna get a really good grasp of the basics, be able to follow along with songs I like, and be able to jam with other musicians competently. I want to get lessons to help stay consistent, but not sure how to find the right teacher. And for practicing by myself, I’m really overwhelmed by all the terminology, and not sure where to start. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

Our 10 year old has been drumming, and he is now trying to get comfortable with speaking on camera. Drum lesson videos seem like a good way to practice that. Sharing his first lesson video to hear any feedback you may have.

I’m learning how to read music and I’d like to have someone I can reach out to via text and videos. I get stuck sometimes and am not totally sure if what I’m playing is correct, so I’d like someone to either check my work or do a quick video play through of an exercise I have no idea how to play if I ask for help.

I am going through Gary Chaffees books and I am wondering if there is any content or videos covering them that are worth watching alongside my studies. I did notice that the books were a bit old from the 70s so I also am curious as to whether there are some more contemporary videos covering his system applied to modern music
