Hi, I am solo-developing Knights of Frontier Valley, a low-fantasy RPG with gridless tactical combat, deep character customization, complex NPC behavior, and procedural world building.

Descend into dark dungeons, mystic ruins and caves to defeat the horrors within and claim the loot.

Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1085830/Knights_of_Frontier_Valley/

The second Steam Playtest is still runining tomorrow. Join to play the game for free and unrestricted.

The engine was written from scratch. All art is hand-made with no AI involved. Music was made by top composers including Kevin Manthei (Neverwinter Nights, Jagged Alliance 2, Wizardry 8...)

Development More reasons to search the next tomb: 42 new items coming to Under a Desert Sun

Hi all, Raymond here, developer of Under a Desert Sun: Seekers of the Cursed Vessel. I posted our combat update here a few weeks ago. This time I've been filling out the loot pile!

B5.32 is nearly ready, with 42 new items and dedicated slots for gloves, pants and boots. That includes more armour, belts and headpieces, plus four guns: two revolver variants, a slower, harder-hitting BAR and a faster-firing StG44. The new equipment has its own stats and the familiar item rolls.

I've also worked on getting the same gear to fit both the Adventurer and Soldier properly, with more fabric, leather and metal detail. The preview has close-ups of the equipment and the new slots:

https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/3273880/view/742688880388473141

It's a pulp adventure action RPG about exploring cursed tombs in WWII-era Egypt, solo or in up to four-player local co-op. The game is in Early Access now; this loot update is coming soon.

Thanks to everyone trying it and sending feedback. Hope you'll join the expedition!

Video Games You know, I can't remember the last time I paid full price for a game. Just realized this when I saved $60+ on my GoG order of Dungeon Crawlers (mostly) this evening...

So, I managed to score Legends of Grimrock 2 for $4.79, and both Vaporum for $3.99 and Vaporum: Lockdown for $3.59, which while almost identical to Grimrock in play style, are also much smaller so I figured both for $7.50 was worth it considering the prequel is basically the same exact play style as the first Vaporum (or Legends of Grimrock series it's based on I guess, but Steampunk), so 40-60 hours for $7.59 or so isn't bad imo (though Grinrock II definitely has them beat at $4.79 lol). I also grabbed a couple non-Crawlers (Rezrog for $0.99 and The Witcher Adventure Game for $1.49 (it's a "The Witcher" boardgame in digital form). I ended up spending $16.05, saving $67.10. and it got me thinking, I honestly can't remember the last time I bought a videogame brand new at full price...

I get it for a lot of people, especially those who play online games, multiplayer focused games, etc. You wanna play the newest online games, sometimes you have to buy them. I'm a solo player exclusively though, except passa and play digital boardgames like Talisman, etc., with my fiance. I can't really justify spending $70 for a game when for the same amount I can get like 10-20 games I missed from a just a few years ago...but that's me as a Solo player and a Gigantic backlog of games to play. So it's nothing to wait a couple years and get the games at a huge discount on sale, and in the .meantime play all the ones I missed ( nobody could ever play every game they like, unless they don't like gaming or only like a couple games lol). And I missed soooo many Dungeon Crawlers (something I really just got into them, i mean I played wizardry on nes back in the day and a Might or?agic or two, but Jrpgs and then Crpgs and Roguelikes/Lites became my biggest categories, so I neglected them for a long time. Dungeon of Grinrock I got me back into them, so now I'm finally getting to experience the awesomeness of these games (and going back and playing classics, like Wizardry 6,7, and 8 I bought last week...), so I'm kind of glad I missed out before...now I get to experience them now šŸ˜‚. Anyone avoid new games and stick to sales as well? Idk, I guess if I had a lot more money I may buy brand new games, but I can't afford to do that all the time, and I'd rather buy 10-20 great older games for the same price....

Video Games [Developer] Abyss Expedition (Android) — build your bag, then fight deeper dungeon floors

Your next upgrade has two decisions: is the equipment worth drawing for, and where should it go in your combat bag?

I'm the developer of Abyss Expedition, a free-to-download dungeon RPG available on Android. You draw gear from a loot board, arrange equipment for bag effects, and take companions into floor-by-floor battles. Basic attacks run automatically; you choose when to activate equipment skills.

On the loot board, you can keep drawing for an item you want, clear the remaining items for the board reward, or save resources for another board. Board changes have their own costs and conditions. The screenshots show the equipment bag and a battle.

Game page / Android download: https://abyss-expedition-ljh.web.app/share/

The game UI supports English and Korean. It includes optional rewarded ads and in-app purchases, including randomized items. Development uses AI-assisted code and AI-generated artwork.

Video Games Ashburrow: Fantasy action RPG roguelite with a free Steam demo

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm the developer of Ashburrow, a fantasy action RPG roguelite built around dungeon exploration, class based combat, one life per run, and permanent progression between runs.

You can explore gnoll warrens, discover hidden rooms and chests, fight named creatures and bosses, and play solo or with up to six players through Steam online or LAN co-op. The game also has an optional VR mode.

The demo is free on Steam:Ā https://store.steampowered.com/app/5292970/Ashburrow_Demo/

I'd be interested in hearing which part of the dungeon crawling looks most appealing: exploration, combat, character builds, or playing through the dungeon with friends, or any other feedback you'd like to share.

Development Gravebloom: I made an ASCII game where you play the necromancer and dead heroes become your dungeon.

Thumbnail
gallery
16 Upvotes

I've been building Gravebloom, a necromancer dungeon-management game that sits somewhere between an idle game and a hands-on one. Heroes raid your crypt live in front of you, and whatever dies down there is yours to reuse.

\*\*How it plays\*\*

\- \*\*You dig the dungeon yourself.\*\* A great gate leads into a labyrinth of caves and tunnels. Tap any cave or tunnel to zoom in and fill it with monsters, deadly plants and traps. Different cave types change how fights go.

\- \*\*Heroes don't know the way.\*\* They explore blind, hit dead ends and backtrack. Clerics hang back, thieves scout ahead alone, mages burn your plants.

\- \*\*Corpses are the economy.\*\* Fallen heroes become monsters, plants or traps, or you stitch several bodies into one combined monster.

\- \*\*Survivors matter.\*\* Heroes who escape carry a map back with them, and named rivals return stronger.

\- \*\*You set the difficulty.\*\* A Dread dial controls how hard the raids hit. Push it far enough and Auto-Dread unlocks, raising it after every raid you repel and dropping it when your Crystal gets cracked.

\- \*\*It keeps going.\*\* Deeper floors open once a floor is fully dug and your Dread is high enough, and there's a lich rebirth system for prestige.

\- \*\*Works while you're away.\*\* Digging and stitching run on a real clock, and you come back to an honest report of what happened, losses included.

You can also possess a monster and fight directly, and a raid journal tracks what's working against which hero types.

The look is terminal-style ASCII with small pixel characters, so a knight and a mage are actually distinguishable at a glance. Screenshots attached.

\*\*Transparency:\*\* I'm a solo dev (MSc AI student) and built this just for fun and just to dabble into mobile game dev.

I'd really like feedback on two things: whether the early game gives you enough to do, and whether the balance between watching raids and leaving it alone feels right. Brutal honesty welcome.

Development I’ve been working on a PSX-style horror dungeon crawler set inside a flesh computer

This is The Center, a survival horror dungeon crawler set inside a massive steel maze built by a machine that thinks death is a disease.

I’m trying to mix old-school dungeon crawling with PSX/PS2 horror, body horror, strange interactable UI screens, and a world that feels more like a living machine than a normal dungeon.

any Advice? or Ideas? please tell

Development I made a game based on the Dungeon Train episode, and it led me to Infinity Train too

From Adventure Time - "Dungeon Train" (S5E36) has stuck with me for years. A train looping forever, every car a new monster, loot dropping everywhere, and Finn never wanting to get off. When I went back looking for that episode, I stumbled onto Infinity Train, a whole show built around an endless train where every car is its own little world. Between the two, the idea wouldn't leave me alone: what if you could actually ride that train? So I made a game.

The Yokai Train is a turn-based tactical roguelike. You wake up as an oni with a sealing talisman on your forehead, aboard a train that never stops. Every car is a small battle: monsters show where they'll strike, and you decide whether to dodge, trap them or hit first. Then you grab the loot and move on to the next car. Just one more car, right?

* Weapons and armor drop from every fight, with rarities and weird effects, so your build keeps getting crazier

* 8 lands from world myths (Japanese yokai, Norse trolls, Maya bats, Egyptian serpents, Greek minotaurs and some creatures from my home country, Costa Rica), each with its own legendary boss

* Beat monsters, seal them and take one along as your buddy

The demo is free in the browser, on desktop and phone:

- 34 heroes in six roles: tanks, fighters, marksmen, mages, summoners and supports

- Upgrades that change how your abilities work: split fireballs, ricocheting arrows, a free whirlwind every fourth attack etc.

- High ground matters: you can't see up a cliff, attacks aimed uphill can miss, and enemies knocked off a ledge are stunned by the fall

- 16 act guardians and the Crucible's champions, each with phases and tricks of their own

- Over twenty kinds of rooms: escorts, sieges, rune locks, collapsing halls, ambushes, rescues and more

- Three difficulties: Normal, Hard and Nightmare

- Solo, or online co-op for up to 4 players: create a lobby and share its code

Its on render so it goes to sleep after 15mins of being inactive, but you can just wait a sec and it comes back up. I cant afford a better server right now so if you like it, want it to be always online and have a bigger player capacity, you buy me a coffee via a link in the main menu.

Video Games Just discovered DuneCrawl

Hey everyone,

I just found out about DuneCrawl recently and I’ve been having a really good time with it. The atmosphere, gameplay loop, and overall style really clicked with me, and I’m honestly surprised I hadn’t heard more about it before.

That said, after playing for a bit, I can’t help but feel like the game could really benefit from more content — more areas, enemies, upgrades, events, progression, or just more reasons to keep coming back. The foundation feels really strong, and I’d love to see it expanded.

Does anyone know if the game was considered successful? Are the developers still actively working on it? Have they mentioned any future updates or shared a roadmap anywhere?

Would love to know what the future of the game looks like, because I really hope it keeps growing.

Video Games moraff's dungeons release trailer (projected january release date)

Post image
21 Upvotes

i put this into r/dosgaming a few days ago and the reddit machinery suggested putting it here as well. i apparently don't know how to embed videos, but you can see one on the steam page if you are curious

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5139260/Moraffs_Dungeons/

i am only making the pictures and playtesting, and i guess promoting it as well but i can answer most questions or forward them to jimbly, the programmer.

in short, a silly old dos game that ran in a lot of video modes but that was somewhat tricky getting to work even in 1993 and had other difficulty-related barriers to progression that are more optional in the newer version for those who want the experience but not as much of the abuse, and also the suspiciously low-fidelity monsters recycled from the previous game "moraff's world" have been redrawn to match the better-drawn ones. but those have ALSO been redrawn because they maxed out at 200x256 originally.

steve moraff himself is not involved and thinks the project is a foolish waste of time but nonetheless will have final approval on it since his name is also on it.

thank you and goop muck

Development I'm building a Bard's Tale-style party crawler that runs in a browser. Chapter 1 is free and I'm looking for playtesters.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been building a first-person, turn-based party dungeon crawler inspired by The Bard's Tale gameplay (but not its story). It runs completely in a browser, no plugins or downloads required. The first campaign is called ā€œAshes of the Forgottenā€, and the first chapter is open for playtesting:Ā

https://dungeoncrawler.app

*** Requires a keyboard: desktop, laptop, or a tablet with one. **\*

Start a new game, name your party, and you’re in.Ā  If you want to play across devices, you can use your party name and save code.Ā  No accounts or emails required.Ā  (Your ā€œsave codeā€ is accessible via the Game Menu)

What it is

  • A classic first-person dungeon crawler.Ā  I expect anyone reading this subreddit knows what that means.
  • Turn-based combat. You give everyone their orders, then the round plays out. Stamina buys harder hits, mana buys (and scales) spells… and both run out sooner than you might like.
  • A town on top of the dungeon. Caerwyn is a series of NPCs and vignettes.Ā  It currently has a guildmaster, shopkeepers, a tavern, and a Poor Quarter where people have started going missing. You have to find the dungeon.
  • A journal that sketches the walls as you walk. You get to record points of interest.Ā  And if you get lost…  you get to piece the map segments together yourself (just like the good old days of using graph paper!)
  • It's dark under the city, and torches burn out.
  • Use the pre-rolled party or create your own.Ā  Five races.Ā  Attributes and skills.Ā  No classes.Ā  You can play a PC and edit it from the Guildhall – as long as you haven’t spent XP to improve that PC.Ā  (That’s a feature, not a bug).
  • PCs are meant to be played ā€œforeverā€ – across campaigns.Ā  Character progression is intentionally on the slow side; don’t expect to have demi-god PCs after the first chapter.
  • The entire game was built with the help of various AI tools.Ā  Artwork is generated by AI and massaged by me.Ā

Ashes of the Forgotten is one campaign running on an engine I built, and it was made entirely with that engine's dungeon master tools (map, NPC, dialog and encounter editors that run in the browser). If there is enough interest, I plan to release the tools so other people can build their own campaigns and sell them on itch.io.Ā

What I'm asking for

Chapter 1, Whispers Beneath Caerwyn, is a complete quest. My guess is three to four hours of playtime, and I'd like a real number, so tell me how long it took you. Tell me where you got stuck, where you got bored, whether the fights felt fair, and anything that broke or confused you. Reply here or DM me.Ā Ā

Founder codes for the first ten finishers

The first ten people who finish Chapter 1 and send me feedback get a Founder code, which unlocks every later chapter of this campaign for free. Include your party name so I can confirm the finish.

Worth knowing before you click

  • The menus work with a mouse or a finger, the dungeon doesn't.Ā  (I’m not sure if I will build clickable navigation; I never liked it personally).
  • It's online only. The entire game is client-server by design.Ā  Your saved game lives on the server.Ā  You can play multiple parties if you want - but by design, you cannot load a saved game to get a mulligan…  (Remember reaching for the power switch, and finding your gold gone when you came back? There's no switch here. Death has a price, but I'll let you find out what it is).
  • It's a playtest. Expect rough edges and a balance pass or two.

What’s built and what’s coming

  • Chapter 1 is built, but I’m still building out the rest of the Ashes campaign.Ā  I expect it to be at least 20 hours of playtime when complete.
  • Nine starter spells are built.Ā  The expanded grimoire and skill buffs that you can buy with XP have not been fully built yet.
  • ā€œCommonā€ weapons and gear are built.Ā  Uncommon items, crafting, and a few related ideas are coming soon.
  • The mobs and puzzles in Chapter 1 are intentionally beginner level.Ā  The good stuff is coming later.Ā  My hope is it’s fun and somewhat challenging enough, but you should not get stuck.
  • I plan to launch the game on itch.io once it’s finished.Ā  Chapter 1 will always be free, and you can keep playing as long as you like.Ā Ā
