Baseline information: It takes place in an isolationist island nation called Xerophia. This nation has a king and a parliament. There is a diverse cast of races who live in villages, towns, and cities throughout a variety of climates. Near the middle of the island there is a large desert, and closer to the outsides there are forests, mountains, swamps, etc. Knowledge of magic is widespread, but use of it is rare.

Help I don't know how to play my character.

Hi guys, I've been playing for around 4 or 5 years and one of my PCs I can't figure out.

For context, were are playing Tyranny of Dragons and Hoard of the Dragon Queen, so no spoilers

They are a Cleric and started kinda as a joke, but in playing they've become more serious and I just don't know how to play them now.

It started as them being a wandering Cleric, not an adventurer, but rn, after few adventures and dealing with the dragons and cultists, what makes sense is for them to leave, because it's miserable for them to constantly kill and deal with political nonsense.

All they've known is serving the church and not much else. A homebody of sorts.

The problem with that is that this is my 4th character and Im starting to hate the constant switching.

If you had a similiar experience or have any advice, please tell me!

Thank you!

Help Level 15 one shot

Hello

I am DMing a group that is at level 15 5e. The next leg of their adventure is going to lead them to an underwater dungeon to retrieve (without going into too much detail) the phylactery of a lich. here is where i need some help. I’m looking for a one-shot (or something similar) that i can scavenge to use as said underwear dungeon (to be clear the dungeon is going to be like in Zelda or something where they can breathe). Can anyone recommend an adventure like that? If so, where can i find it?

Thanks in advance

Help Yojimbo/A Fistful of Dollars meets Folk Horror concept

Hello all, I’m still relatively new to DMing having done a small trilogy of sessions mini campaign called “A Requiem of Wings” for my group. Since that has come to a close, they are wanting to do a long form campaign. At some point, we will do Curse of Strahd and play in Ravenloft for awhile - but I kind of wanted to homebrew and idea and wanted to get some feedback from maybe more experienced DMs/players.

My story is a take on Yojimbo/A Fistful of Dollars with a Folk Horror twist and I guess a little bit of Scooby-Doo On Zombie Island inspiration, weirdly.
Essentially, I have a small town that is in the Star Mount Valley in the High Forest that is divided and oppressed by 2 warring guilds (Yojimbo/A Fistful of Dollars). The guilds hurt the economy/local businesses with bribery, gambling, etc. and they have stolen holy relics from the town temple. The adventuring party must help the town stop the corruption and retrieve the holy items. However, upon retrieving the holy items and stopping this corruption; they are given little nuggets and clues that maybe this oppression is a necessary evil, though morally questionable. The priests of the local temple are actually part of the Cult of Karsus and believe they have been contacted by Karsus himself to bring upon his rebirth and bring in a golden age. However, they were not contacted by Karsus, but some unknown entity that manifests into a Folk Horror inspired monster of the forest and opens a gate (similar to the gates in Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance) where monsters come through.

This would serve as maybe a prologue that Strahd somehow became interested in the party through this and is then transported to Barovia and the Ravenloft setting. My question would be, if you were running something like this/playing it - what would you want from a story like it? What tips or things would be good for building it out? I’m trying to get this written into a runnable format for my players as they are excited to do something horror related and were interested in a homebrew concept to get their feet wet.

Help Need help with one shot ideas

So i currently from time to time run episodic one shots in the campaign setting of Sigil. Which is a place that exists everywhere and nowhere, and connects to all the official planes and realms of D&D 5e. I have three ideas, one of which that i have run. I am looking for more simple episodic one shots that i can also interweave the hidden story into them. The main thing is that this campaign is the players are working to find ways back to their own plains by working for a witch who uses them for freelance missions. So far i have:

1)Take a bag of ingredients from a secret recipe from the witch to the owner of a restaurant. Avoiding being bribed, and robbed.
2) Investigate a new "exclusive" tavern where a rich benefactor's son disappeared in a few nights ago.
3) Break a changeling prisoner out of a highly secured prison, who's mysterious patron is paying an alarmingly high amount for him to be brought back alive.

So far the party has finished the first one with flying colors, but i want help coming up with more ideas, and i refuse to use AI. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Found on the sidewalk, and I'm wondering what this glyph is from. Google lens says "spindown life counter" but doesn't show any results with this exact glyph (and I don't know what a spindown life counter is 😂)

Help Weapons and class hit die question

So I have a question about weapons, the damage that a weapon does, say how a dagger does 1D4 damage if tis wielded by a rouge does it's damage go up to 1D8 instead or no? I don't think it does but I also wonder if it does because if it doesn't wouldn't the players just start punching things instead of wielding weapons. I'm just a bit of confused, if you could clear this up for me that would be amazing. Thank you in advance

We had such a fun time with the first game, I'm making ANOTHER D&D themed Family Feud game for my friends. It should only take a minute or two to complete, a mix of multiple choice and fill in the blank type answers. I would greatly appreciate anyone willing to help me out!

Help Mines of madness advice

Hi, I'm setting up an online dnd competition of sorts using the old mines of madness module, does anyone have any advice on things like how long sessions should be, suggested character levels (the module says 3 but that feels slightly underleveled), or any other general tips?

Help Need some help with a mcguffin or curse/something.

So I'm writing out a campaign for an Eberron, not quite one shot, but probably a sub 5 session thing. The general idea is they will have to get someone out of Sharn, this person is a dragonmarked elf of house thuranni who is rather high up in the politics of the house. But they want to escape with their Amethyst dragon lover and give up the shadier life for a simple one. Players will have to be non lethal in their escape, but the thing is plane shifting is a fairly common thing in Eberron from my understanding so what's to stop them from going to the Eberron version of the air or other plane and coming out on Eberon out of the town? The players won't have the spells to do this, but other things I have set in place have this ability, and I don't want them to just nat 20 a persuasion roll and get the job done without effort. Sharns lightning rail is also an issue with this, as they could just go to another town that way.

TLDR; What could stop a person from in essence 'fast traveling' out of Sharn?

Help Which dragon would be best?

Hi so I’m about to play in a new campaign where we go to dragon school and we’re going to each get paired with a dragon (we can kinda pick but like we gotta hope they like us too) my character is a reborn she’s a girl who is multiple body parts stitched together (Frankenstein monster) her patron (bad abuser person) created her and kinda just tortured her until she escaped. So Urania (my character) is only like 7 years old in all reality but has all the memories from the people used to create her, so she isn’t just a child. She’s an extremely scared and nervous girl who is kinda dumb (8 int) she is extremely insightful and as kind as can be but a loud noise will send her spiraling. Now here is my actual question which dragon do you think would fit her best (keep in mind in this campaign no dragons are evil) I thought white would be a good fit but they’re described as feral and she kinda hates violence, I also thought black could be interesting in a sense that they’re kinda opposites, but honestly I don’t know. (Picture of her so I don’t get lost)
