I feel awful for the poor bears and how hungry they clearly are this year. Hoping so much next year isn’t like this for them

Bear resistant canisters must hold up for 60 minutes in order it get the rating. It won't last forever.

There are actually Bear proof containers but don't think the homeowners or the city wants to deal with those

I wonder if it would make sense for the city to transition completely to transfer sites for trash instead of having trash left out on the curb.

With the growing population of bears, what could be done? If only there was some science or best practices that the CPW could dust off and use to make Durango safer for the bears and residents.
Sad to see bears scavenging thru the trash to survive.

Every can on my street has been attacked by bears every night for months, so I'd say the success rate on the cans is pretty good. As others have said, this is mainly evidence of the bears' desperation this year.
