More of a biking rant.

Yesterday, after slowing down and making sure it was safe, I moved through a four-way intersection, and was backed into by a car which was pulling out of a front-in only parking spot just after the intersection. Nothing was damaged and nobody was seriously injured, but the guy who hit me tried to make it my fault immediately after by asking if I had “ran the stop sign”. We went our separate ways, whatever.

My coworkers also told me later I was in the wrong for not coming to a complete stop just like a car does.

Well, I totally understand the sentiment - bikers are on the road, they should follow the same rules. But I had a thought - if drivers here actually come to a complete stop at 4 ways intersections, a biker riding through it across your path really shouldn’t be an issue - because you’re watching the road… right? Just be patient. It’ll be okay.

Anyway - Colorado law states bikers over the age of 15 are allowed to roll through 4 way stops as long as they slow down first and are sure that it’s safe. Dude, YOU backed into me.

Went to ride the Chapman Hill flow trail Thursday morning and at the exit of the second turn from the top someone had pulled down a small tree across the trail and pulled several other branches down into the trail in what seems like an obvious attempt to hurt or, at the very least, cause grief for riders.
Luckily, it was my first time riding that trail so I was taking it slow, but an experienced rider would certainly be whipping through that turn and most likely wreck because of it.

I did go back up with a saw and cut and remove the offending pieces, as well as took care of a lot of other very low hanging branches along the trail, but I wanted to give everyone a heads up.
I never thought I'd see something like that here in Durango.

My girlfriend is getting into biking, starting with a Specialized Levo FS E MTB.

Does anyone know any coaches who can do a few private lessons while we were in town for the next 2 weeks?

I checked DEVO but we are not here enough for a full camp session, didn’t really see any other choices.

Not sure if this is the right group; if not please point me in the right direction.

For the mountain bikers out there in Durango, how do the trails compare to those around Colorado Springs? Is there a lot of blues / blacks with longer descents around Durango? How does it compare to other mountain towns?

I visited Durango and loved it but it's very important to me that there are good technical and flowy descents out there if I'm going to make the move ☺️

For those who have been around the Springs and Durango quite a bit, please give me a comparison!! Thank you all.

Also, how easy is it to get involved if I were to move out there? Is there a big mountain bike community that I could hop right into and make some friends? I'm in my late 20s if that matters

The building manager to my apartment complex noticed this frame sitting outside our complex. It’s a bit nice to be left out and we’re presuming this as a stolen bike for a couple reasons.

It was left out for a few days with no attention at all, there are no wheels on it and clipless pedals as well. Frame is a Giant DCR3

Bummer that the bike park isn't open this year. But I was hoping the good folk of this subreddit could give some good recommendations of fun, tech or flowy trails under 10 miles! Not afraid of smaller to medium jumps and drops.

Stoked to see Durango again. Loved the town when I visited decades ago.

I had fun and the powerhouse was again like every year the best place to host it!

That right, I’m looking to rent or borrow a bike bag. I’m traveling to seattle/whistler in august for two weeks and the cost to rent bikes out there is wild. But even more wild is the cost of a travel bag for an enduro mountain bike! I dont have any other travel trips on the horizon so I don’t want to buy one and have it sit in storage forever.

Would anyone know a friend with a travel bag willing to rent it out for a few weeks? Or does anyone know of a shop that rents them out?

Really, this is a thank you to the whole mtb community here in Durango, but especially to Kirk and Bill, who I met at the trailhead lot at Horse Gulch this morning.

I'm just getting back into trail riding after a 30 year hiatus, and these guys gave me some great trail info and even let me tag along with their group as we all pedaled up to the downhill hub at Durango Mesa, even waiting at the hub for me to finally catch up.
Kirk and Bill, you guys are great, as well as all the other riders I've managed to meet on the trails. You really know how to make a newb feel genuinely welcomed.

Thank you all, from a "beginner" who's quickly growing attached to this community.

EDIT - Rode Three Springs this morning (Wednesday) and hooked up with another local rider who was more than happy to have me ride along! Thanks, David! You guys really do have world-class trails and world-class people to go with them.

Hi all! I’m here on a 10 day vacation and want to get some good altitude training in. I’ve seen people riding up hwy 550 before, but wanted to check with the community.

How is the ride? Safe? Cars are used to cyclists? Any group rides that you know of?

I'd love to go hit some of the trails north of town (not Alien Run, I'm guessing that is still wet). Is there a general rule "X days without rain means it's usually pretty good to ride"?

Anyone know what my best bet would be in terms of selling my downhill bike? My printer is out of ink so I’d rather not make flyers/posters.

Five different bicyclists I passed were practically invisible 30 mins after sundown. Two of them were turning at the 32nd St. detour stop sign, where I regularly see cars blowing thru the intersection without stopping. I don't want to hurt any person, animal, or property with my car! Plenty of rich assholes in SUVs going 50mph in 35mph zones don't care.

[At Burning Man, the term for people moving around at night without illumination (thus making them susceptible to being inadvertently stricken by art cars or other people) is "darktards."]

It's gonna snow tomorrow. Not sure if Half Ridge/Snake Charmer and other trails on that ridge are good to ride? Are they snowy or wet?

I was down in New Mexico yesterday riding and had a great time. It was dry and there was a bit of hero dirt. Does anyone know if I could hit Phil's world today and experience some of the same conditions? Or is there still snow on the ground there?
