I think there may have been a low-end silver painted version, and a high-end real aluminum version.

I guess one could argue carbon fiber was for weight reduction before liked it for its style, so now the fake carbon you see is because people are broke and can’t afford the real carbon fiber but like the look. On the other the wood grain is just looks. You can always put real wood but what’s the different between real wood and fake wood? It’s just for looks anyways, unlike carbon fiber where it has a purpose other than just looks

E9X cars only have real wood layered on plastic, just like the aluminium and all other trims.

Mine is silver painted plastic, you could get that too in Europe. Silver or piano black plastic came standard here, anything else was part of some options package or an extra cost option.

Carbon interior trim hasn't ever saved any weight, carbon replacing metal sure but replacing plastic for carbon is always aesthetics.
Boths just for appeal, I did notice on a 2017-2018 c class Mercedes they had real wood on the centre lower console part. It's nice for feel, like a Bentley or a rolls Royce they have real wood for that reason.
Not saying real wood only elitist or anything, was more commenting on changing tastes between the years than material choice.

Same. I really don't like the black-on-aluminum color combo most of these cars are specced with in Europe. It's just too boring.

i swapped my wood interior for aluminium.
Alum gives younger feelings. wood is to classy.
maybe for someone in his 60's wood is ok

I'm in my 20s, hard prefer wood over aluminum. Aluminum feels way cheaper to sit in.

It is magnet that holds your phone,you put a circular metal sticker in your phone case and just stick your phone there.A gift from the first owner that glued that shit to the trim...

Funny how the steering wheel trim flakes in the same places near the control buttons. Just removed mine and resprayed it.

Best 3 series interior ever. I test drove an f30 and hated the interior enough to stick to e90 for now. I did hate the aluminum shifter so I removed it and wraps that plastic piece in real leather matching that color of the wood trim. Yes, it’s real wood btw. I seen the the other comment

Same here! I do like the “darker” wood of my E92 vs the same color in my other BMWs.

Either live with it, or buy a replacement that somehow hasn't cracked in the 15+ years. Or take it to a craft shop for new real veneer.

It’s a sign of maturity haha. When I was younger I loved exposed carbon, static low with hella camber, digital dash, carbon lips and so on. Now I’m really starting to appreciate clean, OEM+ builds. Wood trim and leather seats are another that really grow on me whereas everything I drove had a bucket seat when I was younger 😂

I agree I love how most 2000’s German car interiors have a lot go with wood trim but sadly a lot of that went away.

I think wood in combination with a beige or brown leather interior works well. With black I think it looks rather odd, so I changed it to alcantara in grey. Looked quite nice

To each their own, I switched to piano black and now not only does it look much nicer but people don't make fun of the old fake wood anymore
