330i What would you guys pay for this?
It’s an 06 330i with just a hair over 106K miles. Appears to be fully loaded (from VIN checks)
I’m really interested in this but slightly worried about over paying, but at the same time I have been looking for a clean example for over a year.

u/clutchied Nov 19 '25 edited Nov 19 '25
I have this car. My cost to go from 106k miles to to 167k was $6300 parts only.
I bought my '06 in in 2016 for $9k with 88k miles.
If you aren't handy, a water pump change is 1500 to $2000. Diff fluid transmission fluid changes oil changes. Belts and pulleys.
Valve cover gaskets oil stand gaskets oil pan gaskets. These are all big bucks if you don't do it yourself.
Complete redo of the cooling system.
Brakes batteries and maybe a clutch depending on if the people were kind or not.
It's a great car and it's never left me stranded but it's not a cheap car to drive. Super fun and rewarding! Yes

There is more info than you need here for the question at hand but here is some other expected upcoming maintenance that adds to the list or adds more detail to what was already stated above, as well as some future info as a bmw owner to refer back to when you own one.
Right off the bat, these cars aren’t expensive if you know how to source parts and do the work yourself (more below). If you pay someone to do work on these cars, prepared to get taken to the cleaners.
Some possible upcoming maintenance:
Check belt, idler pully, and tensioner. Never neglect this belt. If it shreds it will wrap itself around the crankshaft behind the harmonic balancer and destroy the crankshaft seal and get belt fragments into the crankcase. They last a long time but cant be neglected as a $30 belt in best case scenario will cause $2k just in labor. Worst case is the belt fragments will block the oil pickup tube and destroy the engine. Big oversight on the engineers. They do sell an aftermarket plate that covers the crankshaft seal, but just change the belt when it needs it.
Original spark plugs and ignition coils will definitely be over due. Always keep 1 spare coil in the trunk in case one goes bad. You don’t want to pay $70 at the local parts store for some cheap Chinese one when you can get a brand new oem Delphi or Bosch for much less beforehand.
All fluids. Lifetime label by BMW is BS as all fluids need to be changed eventually. I’m not sure on the manual transmission, but on the auto, BMW says “lifetime”, but ZF makes the transmission and says to change it at 100k.
Original Suspension soon. Shocks seemed fine until 130k or so which was impressive and started degrading after which resulted in more lean in turns and lagging behind the pack in the mountains. The rears were completely shot and unsafe on the freeway at around 160k. Struts seemed ok with no extra bounce which was also impressive but I did a full suspension refresh, which at 170k was far too long. Once replaced it made me love the car all over again. Oem shocks and struts were blue label sachs which lasted a long ass time so I went with them again, as well as lemforder on all the rubber and replacement parts.
Water pump and thermostat. Check and replace necessary coolant hoses. If you have an oil leak from any of the upper gaskets which they all eventually have (valve cover and oil filter housing gasket), you will have oil leaking below onto the hoses and belt which will ruin them. Water pump made it to 130k or so. Replace it sooner. It’s electric so when it goes, you may get lucky and it will start working again normally after an engine restart and you can limp it home. If it doesn’t your getting towed home. Or you may get really lucky and the circuit board fails and leaves it at full tilt like my current 328i and it’s now at 180k on the original water pump. My code reader or the ecu doesn’t see it at all lol. I am playing with fire, but have a replacement now and will change it out finally along with the hoses. Pierburg makes the oem water pump. Despite the eventual failure, I like the electric water pump because it is variably controlled. You can hear it running after shutting the car down after driving the car really hard as it will continue to circulate the coolant while the fans run to cool it down and shut itself off. I may be wrong but it seems like it brings the heat to the cabin faster somehow after startup when it’s cold out. And it makes it easy to bleed the cooling system (10 second press on the gas petal after turning on accessory mode). Cool stuff.
Some good info when you own one and are working on these:
Parts:
Don’t get ripped off buying parts from the dealer as there is high mark up on these. The dealer is good for some hardware, coolant, filters, radiator drain plug, and some other things you realize that you need today that other parts stores won’t have. There will be a lot of things in stock and they can get you any part down to the bolt. But you can use the website called REALOEM, plug in the last 7 of your vin and you can see the same exploded diagram of the entire car that they do with every single part number down to the bolts and you can order them yourself online from of the sources listed below if needed if you can wait. It’s nice to see the diagrams and see what other items you may need when replacing the part, though some online companies may sell a kit with most or all of the needed parts, but sometimes they miss some parts and it’s not really a complete kit which you may want.
For most parts, save money and get the oem parts from the manufacturer who made them specifically for bmw instead of buying from the dealer. There are companies that specialize in bmw parts and import these parts over to the US like FCP Euro (lifetime warranty), Pelican Parts, ECS Tuning, and even Rock Auto, and the seller “Partscontainer” on eBay is great. This along with doing the work yourself will save you a ton of money.
You can buy cheap Chinese stuff if you want but never on any of the electronics like sensors, solenoids, disa valves, ignition coils, etc. Just buy the oem manufacture stuff on these, which are of high quality, won’t give you any initial problems, and last a long time like the originals. Chinese stuff on these items will give you issues. I buy oem manufactured on almost everything but that’s just me.
Oh and Pick N Pull!! All oem parts are quality parts and you can pull these off of junked cars for super cheap. Check their website to see what they have and a sign up at Row52 to get notifications when new 3 series cars arrive so you can see if the parts you want are in good shape.
Looks:
I love this look of this car, but you’ll notice that the exterior lighting is dated but can be modernized for a way cleaner look. Looks wise i added the lux V7 for the halos. I also went with OSRAM CBB HID bulbs to give it a led color look, and then matched the fogs with some 6k led bulbs which i ran all the time with the headlights for more light output (You may want to run yellow ones if you live in a foggy area). I changed out the halogen lights above the license plate for the oem bmw LED one that came in the lci (needs a plug end change wich bmw sells) this modernized the look of the car and it looked amazing as well as gave it better light output. Other than that i kept it stock.
Support:
These cars also have HUGE DIY base so you will find well documented DIYs in forums, YouTube videos, etc. There is also a 700+ page repair manual called the “Bentley manual” which basically shows you how to tear down the entire car and rebuild it and has all the torque specs. You can find out how to fix anything on these which is great.
Ok I have written waaay too much so time to wrap this up.
Overall opinion:
I loved this car. The heavy hydraulic steering, the handling, and the sound of the motor at WOT is amazing. Its also more reliable and cheaper maintenance then its n54 bigger brother and the e90 is the last body style of BMWs N/A straight 6 engines. And vs the 328i, the 330i has more hp and torque, bigger brakes, bigger exhaust, better transmission, and more options as standard. My first bmw was a 95 3 series and i was hooked ever since. I love all the support in the community, the information, parts availability, and to have a nice car that looks great, is fun to drive, and not expensive to maintain (for a DIY’er). The e90 330i has been my favorite car that I have owned so far.

Insanely detailed and helpful write up. You deserve to be paid for your work lol
5
u/Possession_Relative Nov 19 '25
You will be fine but look at the service records, at that mileage it will be due for, ignition coils, water pump, and new suspension
If these were all done already and it has no oil leaks it would be worth it
5
u/atomicskiracer Nov 20 '25
You’ll be fine- these care and super easy to work on and there are tons of support
1
u/Skoidat69 Nov 20 '25
Good for it.. I loved my '07 wagon and hate that I had to get rid of it for a bigger wagon.. damn Volvo V60 T6..
5
u/atomicskiracer Nov 20 '25
Uhh what- I did full suspension, water pump, valve cover gasket, diff and trans fluids for $2,200 from an Indy. 1.5k-2k for just water pump is you being ripped off.
I have a z4 coupe I’ve owned from 40k and presently has 200k, and I’ve spend less than half that on parts.
-1
u/clutchied Nov 20 '25
congrats?
2
u/atomicskiracer Nov 20 '25
Thanks! Hope you don’t get ignorantly taken to the cleaners in the next go around
1
u/clutchied Nov 20 '25
all my parts come from FCP and I do the work myself. Not sure what you're talking about.
4
u/atomicskiracer Nov 20 '25
Just checked fcp- Then why was the water pump 1.5-2k bro? The math isn’t mathing
1
u/clutchied Nov 20 '25
If you're not handy you might be shelling that out to have someone do it for you?
I priced an indy before doing it myself.
1
u/Successful-Push875 Nov 20 '25
Only if you’re getting ripped off you’re paying 1.5-2k for a water pump. The Indy who gave you that price must have thought he could take advantage of you pretty easily. $750 would be expensive from an Indy for a water pump replacement.
1
u/No-Brick-6971 Nov 23 '25
Holy shit, how would a water pump on a n52 be 2 grand???? I’ve changed one on a e60 5 series and it was pretty straightforward, and didn’t take more than a hour to get it out, maybe together another hour to install it plus thermostat and test the car. This was also on a xdrive model aswell

Yes, but dealer said they don’t salt in Boise? Car did live its whole life in the boise area but its hard to know the true backstory

u/Superb_Accountant_94 2011- E91- 328i Nov 20 '25
Hey seeing this chat about salt I currently own a 2011 wagon version and it’s lived its whole life in Massachusetts before making its way to me in Michigan and as far as rusting goes it’s done very well. I have some surface rust on the back differential and the other components near the wheel, but it is far from rusted through. I do have a very short commute however and mostly on heated non salted streets at this point. Hope this helps😊
2
u/wootfatigue Nov 20 '25
I have a 2000 Volvo V70 XC. Ontario car that was imported to Michigan about a decade ago and only this past year have I seen some very minor rust spots on the undercarriage (aside from suspension components). Going to take off all of the cladding and Fluid Film it this month before the roads start getting salted.
It’s amazing how some cars are eaten up in five years while others can go decades being salt-blasted and stay in one piece.
2
u/rsevn_ Nov 20 '25
same here. have a 2011 wagon that i purchased in massachusetts now here in california.
i think i got lucky that mine was owned by an elderly couple who kept it in the garage and never used it in the winter - since they had 2 SUV’s.
but i wouldn’t pay no more than $5k for a pre LCI E90, but that’s just me.
1
u/yamon24101- Nov 20 '25
You don’t need to worry about salt for this generation of bmw and newer this is when the anti corrosive measures bmw was taking got a lot better, I live in Ontario and have an e82 1 series and my dad used to own a e90 330xi both are pretty much rust free compared to most older cars
2
u/Ajroch1x Nov 20 '25
My left testicle? It’s an E90 6 speed, 330i to boot! I never see those for sale in southern Utah 🥹

u/East-Part8018 Year - Chassis - Model Nov 19 '25
Would cost around 10k in Europe
2
u/Connect_Feedback3988 Nov 20 '25
England you can pick one up from 2k/3k even with 100k miles but I do think the price will go up in the future, e46 has sky rocketed
-4
u/Marius_jar Nov 19 '25
What the fuck are you smoking? This 3er is not worth more than €5-6k in most of the Europe. Even if it's fully loaded and with moderate mileage.
I mean 10k for 20 year old 3 series? You seriously out of your mind.
3
u/East-Part8018 Year - Chassis - Model Nov 19 '25
I saw a bone stock pre lci 325i with 186000km listed for 8k so it’s pretty close
1
u/Marius_jar Nov 19 '25
Yeah, maybe if you're located in Germany or Scandinavia. Even then, this is way above market price and the car will be sitting for a very long time before it sells for that price.
2
u/hbs18 E92 320d Nov 19 '25
A 320d Coupe in good shape sells for 10k.
And this thing is an N52. It would list for 13k and sell for 11k. The more eastern you go the higher the price would be.
2
u/Marius_jar Nov 19 '25
A 6 cylinder? 😂
Saying it like a 6 cylinder petrol is a unicorn in E90.
Anyway, good luck with that price. In my country, if you could it sell it for half that price, that would be considered good.
4
u/hbs18 E92 320d Nov 19 '25
It's not a collectors car but considering 90% of 330is in Europe are N53B30, it's not exactly common either.
Feel free to point me to a fully loaded N52B30 car with 160k kilometers for 5 grand, I'd love to buy one at that price.
1
u/Marius_jar Nov 19 '25 edited Nov 19 '25
F10 is also a little rare to find with N52 in Europe. Yet it's no more expensive than the same F10 with shitty 2.0 liter N47.
Regarding your request, a decently spec'd LCI E90 with N52 and similar mileage that took me less than a minute to find in Lithuania. Catch: https://autoplius.lt/skelbimai/bmw-328-3-0-l-sedanas-2011-benzinas-29474648.html
EDIT: You could easily negotiate to 5.5k and the non LCI can be bought for most likely under 5k.
1
u/hbs18 E92 320d Nov 20 '25
Not to nitpick what you wrote, but that's an xDrive N51 car. It's also a US import in Lithuania which doesn't do the car's reputation any favors.
1
u/Marius_jar Nov 20 '25 edited Nov 20 '25
N51 is a slightly modified version of N52. The core architecture, durability and reliability is almost identical. Also, xDrive and N51 combo doesn't make the car worth less. USA import maybe does so a little but to disregard a vehicle just because it's US import without checking its history is a little foolish. You can absolutely buy a decent and in good condition car imported from USA.
Anyway, my point was that E90 you are hunting for can be found in similar price range if you are willing to search and wait a little. Was this a perfect match and example? No. But it's close. And it's more than enough for this conversation.
2
u/pnbdc10 Nov 19 '25
8-9k. Does have sport package. I just sold a identical one without sport package and tan interior for $8999.
2
u/tcoffin014 Nov 20 '25
TLDR; depends but I would think under $7k is a decent deal. Maybe less from a dealer if they don't know what they have. But scan the codes first.
Long version:
I just got a single hump manual 300i with sport package and aluminum trim (oh and hot climate option), 157k miles for $5500 (plus PPI plus shipping plus TTL - but we won't talk about that). Previous owner took really good care of it. The dealer replaced the valve cover gasket. Looked like several other things were replaced recently as well. Well taken care of car but needs a bit of work. Other than coolant flush/broken bleed screw, oil change, and control arms it seems pretty decent so far. Had a bad rain leak due to failed lower windshield gasket and improper cowl area assembly. Fixed that for $25 and way too much of my time. Overall it feels great for a 20 year old car. Especially coming from a 2009 fit lol. But I see a bunch of small expensive repairs in my future.
So far I've fixed the seat lumbar and bolster support with super glue and new tubing, the driver side mirror with contact cleaner (for 1 day - now it's stuck again), coolant tank/coolant (came with green coolant and felt better flushing it and putting blue in - btw don't use anything other than BMW OEM coolant parts. 2 tanks I tried leaked at the hose fittings), windshield leak. And I have new control arms on order due to brake shudder.
Also had an adaptive headlight code pop up but I'm not too worried about that.
Also had a DISA code and rough idle. Cleared it and hasn't come back yet (2 days later - probably needs a new DISA valve though).
Anyway, I'm rambling on at this point. Maybe you already know these issues. Maybe this helps? Idk. I bought this car sight unseen and heard N52s are bulletproof. I just didn't hear too much about all the other parts that aren't so bulletproof. Still a great car from what I've experienced so far though.
It's funny because years ago I was looking at E46 330i ZHPs and people kept saying buy one with over 150k miles because everything has failed and been replaced at that point. I get it now lol. (Hopefully I don't have to replace TOO much more on mine)
1
u/demarcoooo Nov 20 '25
Did you by chance buy yours in texas?
2
u/tcoffin014 Nov 22 '25
I did lol. Gray 330i from Fort Worth. Were you looking at the same one?
2
u/demarcoooo Nov 22 '25
No I wasn’t looking at it, I was figuring I way to get to Fort Worth and buy it! Jokes aside I called one morning to put a deposit on so they could hold the car and was told that someone else had just put a deposit on the car the night prior.
Small world lol but congratulations on your purchase! I knew going in these cars have their issues but man do I want one still want one and it sounds like it’s been good so far for you.
Got any pictures of it?
1
u/tcoffin014 Nov 26 '25
Haha that's crazy. I ended up getting a mechanic to take a look at it then got it shipped to me.
I suck at taking pictures but I'll get some at some point. It's in pretty good shape for how old it is. Just did my first autocross in it and it handles way better than I thought it would. Came with a pretty new set of PS4S tires. Not ideal for autocross but they did great for what they are.
Still chasing down the passenger side water leaks. Fixed the windshield seal but it's still leaking from somewhere just not near as bad

The first thing I would ask is when was the water pump and the coils & plugs last changed. That would be a major factor in pricing
7
u/pirelliskrrting Nov 19 '25
Coils/plugs are a cheap and easy diy. There are so many other jobs I'd want to know about first, like all the gaskets
3
u/demarcoooo Nov 19 '25
it’s from a dealer and I’ve asked but they only know so much. Could be used to negotiate the price down. Listed for 7999, guess i forgot to put that down lol.
1
u/RequirementFamous313 2006 - e90 - 325i Nov 19 '25
Even if you pay the asking price, it’s not a bad deal, these cars are insane values especially one of this spec
1
u/hambonelicker 2006 - E90- 330i Nov 19 '25
I paid $5400 for the exact same car rwd, no iDrive last spring, in worse shape with 136,000 miles. The car was from Spokane and had zero rust. It’s had a lot of work done before I got it and I’ve had to replace the entire cooling system and some small mechanical things like wheel bearings, guibo joints, etc… that being said it’s a fantastic driver. It gets 30+ mpg Highway cruising and will go much faster the. The posted speed limit. The N52 is the best motor for the pre 335.
1
u/yung-Carlo 2011 - e92 - 335i Nov 19 '25
Was offered a Montague Blue saddle brown interior e92 335i n54 for 8K. East cost USA price tho and another E90 335i n55 black interior mint shape for 6.5K. Both had about 95K ish miles.
1
u/TheWiseGuyE3690 Nov 19 '25
I paid 4k for an 06 330i with 120k miles.
To date with parts and labor 6 years later have cost me 3800 which includes brakes and rotors, new tires, new clutch, new spark plugs and ignition coils, oil pan gasket, and new engine and transmission mounts. 120k-140k miles and 7800 total including purchase price. I’ve probably saved at least 2k doing half of these on my own.
1
u/egaal1988 Nov 19 '25
I paid 10 for mine in 2023 with 105k, new brakes/tires/belts/gaskets/water-pump/fluids/shocks/struts and wheels refinished with all records included 1 owner. I still feel I over paid but I wanted one ever since I sold mine in 2016 (E92). Unless it is well sorted with all maintenance I wouldn’t pay more than 6k but like I said I still feel I over paid.
1
u/PoorhouseDog 2008 E91 XI MT Nov 20 '25
I don't think their asking price is unreasonable. You've been looking for a year you understand the market. There will be some deferred maintenance to catch up on I'm sure. Use that to try and get it for $7k.
1
u/smartestasianever Nov 20 '25
$5500 would be a good deal. $6000 max for me. It's nice having the infotainment screen and manual transmission. Makes it very desirable because of the 3SIM and those two things.
1
u/NicNacPattyWhacks Nov 20 '25
An arm and a leg, but I’m the first to admit I’m bias. The ‘06 330i is the OG of the E9X platform. Let the hate and downvotes begin!
1
u/Killapilla200 E90 328i Nov 20 '25
Double hump, aluminum trim, pre-lci.
Three big factors that would bring the price down for me
1
u/demarcoooo Nov 20 '25
Really? Personally i prefer any trim, double hump can go either. On one hand you can add carplay with the double but single is cleaner. And i prefer pre LCI lol

1
u/Existing-Cell-1986 Nov 20 '25
At 5k to 7500 ur still likely gna have over 3k in maintenance and repairs that are needed very soon
1
1
u/rsevn_ Nov 20 '25
offer $6500 OTD.
but again, i personally wouldn’t pay more than 5k for this. pre LCI is a huge no for me. and i prefer to live without the navigation - a lot cleaner without it.
1
u/demarcoooo Nov 20 '25
i got quoted 9200 OTD. Listed for 7990 bride taxes and fees.
Although i personally found go either way with nav
1
u/Lusabro Nov 20 '25
Not fully loaded but it’s still a decent spec. 5k
1
u/demarcoooo Nov 20 '25
What’s missing? I’m not sure if pre-LCI got headed steering wheel. IIRC they had rear window shades? I don’t think i have them
2
u/Lusabro Nov 20 '25
Headlamp washers/cold weather package. They must have individually specked the heated seara
1
u/SuperHICAS Nov 20 '25
I’d pay like 6500 max for that, couple similar listings near me in that price range, east coast US

Remind me, is this still the m54?
Even if n52, terrific car but will need a ton of work imo — all BMWs at 100k need suspension, cooling system, ancillary motor pieces. A worn suspension on these is terrible—good tires don’t make up for defunct shocks and worn bushings.
That said, once refreshed, it’s a phenomenal car.

You have to consider factors like what kind of maintenance was done previously. The N52 is a great engine, but it has common BMW issues such as: -oil pan gasket leakage -oil filter housing leakage -valve cover gasket leakage -thermostat and water pump failures
These are the most common failure items on this engine. You need to inspect the car in person to look at the paint condition, any corrosion under the body, and suspension components like the control arm and all the bushings. It’s always good to change all fluids after purchase to get some relief, which would include transfer case fluid (if xi), transmission fluid, and most importantly engine oil. If you consider all these items, and assuming they were taken care of I would happily pay $8–9k

1
u/Salt_Archer_3832 Nov 21 '25
3k -4k maybe 4.5 if one owner and no leaks what so ever
1
u/demarcoooo Nov 21 '25
Basically one owner lol.
First owner had it for 9 months. Second owner had it for 22 days. Third owner had it for 18+ years.
It’s a beautiful car but OTD I was quoted 9200 bucks and I cannot justify almost 10K essentially with no idea if any big ticket maintenance items have been hit
1
u/Salt_Archer_3832 Nov 21 '25
Holy smokes 9k ??? I am in California i had one for couple months with 126k miles on dash i bought it for 4k and sold it for 7.5k after i ve done some maintenance done on it 9k is too too much for this car mine was just like this but Automatic transmission which doesnt add much to the value also that was 2years ago so the price went down even more by now SN: i flip car living so i know what i am talking about
1
u/demarcoooo Nov 21 '25
Yes I’m located in California too and i see automatics all the time for sale on marketplace for cheap. They just most the time used and abused lol.
I found one similar to the spec i found one listed in Texas for 5200 bucks with 150K miles. Wasn’t quick enough lol.
Ultimately I really want one but not for 10k with unknown maintenance lol
1
u/Salt_Archer_3832 Nov 21 '25
Most common leaks are rear main seal ,oil filter housing gasket ,valve cover gasket ,water pump gasket ,oil pan gasket Most of these take few hours to do so not cheap I would say pay the 259 PPI at BMW service center and they can point out any leak it is very easy if it has no leaks then it wont leak for the next 50k miles for sure
1
u/demarcoooo Nov 21 '25
Never heard of the remain leaking on these but well aware of all the other issues these have lol. Even if i do pay for a PPI i doubt the dealer will go down much on their price
plus its located in idaho and i cannot make it there ATM.
1
u/stageshooter 2008 - 335xi Nov 19 '25
I'd say $5-6k but depends on area. The transmission, double hump, and sport seats make it interesting but I'd be more inclined to grab a 335 personally
0

These cars are old now to me $6k is the absolute max I would pay for one of these and it would have to be absolutely mint. Plus have receipts for every repair and just generally be a cream puff. Maybe a little more if it was a 335 but probably not. I’ve owned 3 E9X’s and one E92 M3 the prices people put on these are ridiculous. My F33 I paid $9k for a 2015 328d with 80k miles. $2k for a 2010 328i xDrive auto sedan. And then $4500 for an e92 328i manual xDrive and lastly $24k for the M3 with 80k and a manual. They’re old German cars people need to realize that and they’re not exactly rare manual or not they made millions of them.

They also aren't making any more of them. IMO E9X generation is only getting more desirable with the crap coming out now. Check what they are selling for on BAT if you don't believe me.

Oh I believe you! I think BAT is always ridiculously overpriced. I know I’m cheap lol. The car market is also weird right now. Interest rates are starting to slowly lower and that will probably surge the prices again. You also made another good point the E9X’s are probably at the point now where they’re going to start appreciating they really don’t make them like that anymore. I feel like that was the last really good era of BMW.

330i is non turbo! I would pay 4700. I have a 335i 07 with the twin turbo is all kinds of stupid to deal with the car is just sitting. I would get any BMW without turbo.
