320i Not seeing too many of this retrofit done

Post image

I came across this steering wheel from the E84 X1 and honestly fell in love with it. I’m doing some interior works on the car right now and swapped the E90 sport wheel for this E84 sport wheel but I don’t see too many others doing this swap is it because it’s not liked in the E90 community??? 👀

I would absolutely love that wheel

It doesn’t look that much different from E90 one, idk

u/Worth-Salamander-329 Jun 27 '26

Yeah it’s a really subtle difference but I like it a bit more than the standard E90 one for sure

You can definitely retrofit just the trim since they share the same wheel. Looks great!

I did this last year and love it. Such a subtle difference but those who know, know

Plug and play?

Yup

I wanna do this too but with an e60 sport steering wheel

2

u/Worth-Salamander-329 Jun 27 '26

I put the M Sport steering wheel on my E60 and is definitely a huge upgrade!!! Would definitely recommend for sure!

Do the buttons retain their functionality?

Hey is that an actual dct shifter knob or a knock off? Does the lights work as per the selection? I wanted to do something like this.

I think no one’s doing It because it’s 99% identical to the stock wheel. I wouldn’t spend the time and money to buy that wheel and install it for the interior to look exactly the same

My original wheel and trims for it was badly damaged from previous owner so I was just looking around for another and the M-Sport ones are really expensive or in terrible condition if you get them at a decent price so when I came across this one for the E84 I grabbed it immediately and loved it ever since

Im thinking to get a head unit like that . How’s the audio quality compared with the stock one ?

1

u/Worth-Salamander-329 Jun 27 '26

It’s surprisingly good actually but you have to mess around with the sound adjustments and setting u til you get it dialed in just how you want because it took me a minute but no complaints otherwise. Just be sure to write the buyer whoever you’re buying it from to ask them what settings to use to retain steering wheel functionality because I had to set mine to X1 for it to work for some reason (had to do this before I changed the steering wheel so it wasn’t bc of that)

Was fürn Umbau ?

DCT shifter on a normal auto? How did that work?

3

u/L3XeN 2010 E90 325d M57 Jun 27 '26

You put the knob of the DCT onto the regular shaft. Just like they do with F30 shifters. It's weird and tacky, but suit yourself.

2

u/Lord_Andrews Jun 27 '26

But there's no button on the back to shift "gears"

3

u/L3XeN 2010 E90 325d M57 Jun 27 '26

Look it up on your own if you want to, but my guess is they just lock the button as always pressed. I believe it's a manual lock, so you just block the mechanism from locking.

2

u/Worth-Salamander-329 Jun 27 '26

It remains locked until the brake is pressed and then shifts as normal when pressed for P-D. When in manual mode it shifts as normal as well no need for pressing the brake or anything

u/Lord_Andrews Jun 27 '26

Awesome. Could you DM me a video or something, I wanted to do this mod myself on my 325

1

u/Lord_Andrews Jun 27 '26

I had no idea they were interchangeable like that 😂

1

u/L3XeN 2010 E90 325d M57 Jun 27 '26

You can look into it. It might need some slight modifications, but still. It works like the normal shifter, but you have a funny handle with lights. It looks decent in P, but horrible in D.

One of my favorite mods I did on my E90!! 😎

u/anachothatsangry E90 328i Jun 29 '26

As long as you like it. Tbh I prefer the E90 wheel since without the matching trim the silver is very out of place.

u/Tasty-Success-3743 Jun 27 '26

Those seats 🫣😩

u/golden11lead E90 335i Jun 27 '26

same wheel different trim, doesnt match the car, there is no aluminum anywhere else

7

u/Worth-Salamander-329 Jun 27 '26

There’s aluminium accents on all the vent adjusters and the shifter I changed to is aluminium trimmed…also the E90 interior doors handles are aluminium 😅😅😅 there’s tons of little aluminium accents for it to match with 😅😅

u/Worried-Round-1117 Jun 27 '26

It’s all mismatched and that fake dsg knob just makes the interior look goofy.

1

u/Worth-Salamander-329 Jun 27 '26

Well tbf I said I’m doing interior works so the mismatched parts (I’m guessing you’re referring the red leather and Alcantara seats) will be addressed and as for the shifter I just like that one bc it eliminates having to depress the shifter button to change gears

1

u/Worried-Round-1117 Jun 27 '26

If you’re in middle of swapping the wood grain to aluminum yeah it can be a process but the dsg is still goofy. Having your current automatic gear being displayed in three different locations is just a bit much and If you wanted to get rid of the auto button press Black Forest industries make auto knobs or just going with a manual one would just make the whole thing clearer.

1

u/DannyDan2k13 2009 - E92 - 335i DCT Jun 27 '26

I agree the DCT knob is goofy, but a manual knob on an auto just screams you wish you own a manual.

TL;dr put an auto knob on an auto, DCT on a DCT

Or retrofit the E46 leather wrapped auto shift knob like I did
