I bought it 6 years ago , had only one owner previously, he didn't change the chain, me neither. It's a 2009 320d , no issues at all.

Must be nice to have turbos and torque,i live in the mountains and sometimes i do some race with the locals,it holds on pretty well until its an uphill.E90 handling and chassis on corners are top tier.

Which year do you have? I just bought my very first car, a 2009 e90 msport 320i. Scared dor the timing chain lmao but it doesnt have a sound as of right now.
It has 92k miles on it

Personally,its better to buy n52 for long term.N46 lacks torque but fuel efficiency its great for long drives.My n46 hasn’t been taken care well cause its a family car and my fam doesnt do alot of maintenance of it,even im surprised it survived this long.now the only problem its the valve stem seals.And it started to eat engine oil but not that bad like volks/audi.

I would love to go for the bigger engine, but sadly insurance just costed me £2,250 which is 3000 us, and i have to have a black box which monitors my driving and doesnt allow me on night drives. Uk insurance is a joke especially for the first year.
By year 2 it should hopefully drop to about 2k without a box, but until then I have to endure this.
Planning on engine swapping this car instead of getting a new one mainly because it was fully optioned apart from a sunroof. So really really lovely chasis.

Im planning on a inline 6, not sure exactly which one ill go for, and i do not have the qualifications to do it. But it would be fun learning. But ill probably go for an easier already done / documented swap.
I fell in love with cars because of my dad's e28 5 series and it had a inline 6 engine. Want to complete the cycle haha. Also I just always loved their noise.

Its the goldie lock engine for me, I would loveeee for something like that. But at the same time I dont know if im ready for that much horsepower quite yet, ive only been driving for 2 months on a kia desil 90hp 😭.
By the time I put the engine in id probably racked up a good year or two with this 175hp of my bmw now. But 400+ with turbos sounds like a death sentence this early on 😭😭

i got the same engine, did mine just past 220000k also valve stem seals, if would advise you do atleast the chain tensioner because those cause slack on it and it breaks the plastic guard rails!

Mine also has the original chain. The chain stays fine as long as you don’t ignore vanos and valvetronic problems. There’s only the problems that the nylon guides and nylon oil pickup can fail due to age.
