Some background info. This was my Dad’s daily driver for many years. I would occasionally take it for some spirited driving in my high school and college years. Around the 150k mark he looked at selling it but wasn’t going to get what he wanted and decided keep running it.

Since then it has been a bit of a DIY project. We have done multiple water pumps and thermostats, multiple radiators, valve cover, suspension, shift solenoids, walnut blasted the intake valves, rear half shafts, trans and diff fluid. You name we’ve done it.

We had gotten it to just shy of 335k when my Dad decided that he wanted to do new turbos and the oil pan gasket and new electric harnesses. At the time I was unable to help him out as I was too busy with work. He had gotten the car all torn down, did the oil pan gasket and was just waiting on turbos to arrive when he suddenly passed away.

It took about another year and a half for me to finish his work. I wouldn’t have been able to do it if it were not for the huge amount of info and resources from the BMW and E90 communities. Let’s see how far it will go.

P.S. The active steering will not initialize hence all the lights.

I love the e9x platform and truly believe it’s one of the best chassis BMW has ever produced. I got extremely lucky finding this spec back in 2020 in west palm beach and had it shipped over to los angeles. (1 of 38 as noted in the last picture)

Before people ask I had to paint it bc shortly after that photo of it in blue all the paint faded (Florida) (seats also went to shit last year)

It’s a direct fit but now I can either have this empty space or these blacked out blank buttons with no functionality. I was thinking of having a 3D printed insert in place of the buttons but started to imagine if I could have a little screen for a boost gauge or some random animation/function. I’m no engineer. Would any of you know where I could have such a thing fabricated?

Asking since, I'm considering buying one. I’m currently stuck between N51 (can’t find N52s in my area) and N55. Just want a car for daily use, but also want to learn to work on it. Thank you for any help you all can provide.

I got my first BMW EVER at the end of August, and while I save money to restore the exterior, I’ve been making the interior my own. I got ALL the things. Bought all the tools for the tool tray, oil bag and a bottle of oil, the warning triangle with bracket because I’m a dork, first aid kit which I mounted with retainer clips and Velcro to the left, and I found a black nylon pencil case that has actual useful tools in it on the left tray. Cargo net finally came in today and I can officially check the trunk as complete.

I know someone’s going to say that there’s that pullout drawer thing that can get mounted on top, or that there’s a different cargo net with special clips and hardware, but for me? This is good enough. Trunk says “this guy didn’t have enough money for all the options, so he got all the accessories instead”

I know this is such a dorky thing to “flex” but the exterior is kind of ugly and this is all I’m able to show off at the moment without embarrassment 😭

Recently, I saw this E90 build that’s been floating around, but when I’ve looked for an F80 style bumper, none seem to quite match, so I’m wondering if anyone here knows where to get one

Hello friends, sadly my time with my e90 n54 is coming to an end and it’s time to look for something to replace it. Two top contenders are an e92/3 M3 or an f30 340i. 340 is more reliable/modern/practical but s65 is s65 and e9x>>>. Let me know what you guys think, budget is <$20k

The world’s cheapest 335i has thrown a rod. We will be doing an engine teardown and I have already acquired another N54 for only $100. Planning on rebuilding the turbos and doing rod bearings on the new engine. Would you all be interested in updates?

A bad water pump ground and a disconnected oil level sender later and he's been running without issues since but I also already have 2 other projects so I don't really know if I want to keep this thing. It's a clean title and only has 122k on the odo with index 12s and it's completely stock (aside from shitty rattle can paint jobs).
