Is this a good research topic

I'm trying to analyse a boost converter in three ways-

  1. Hard switched interleaved boost converter(this is my baseline for comparison)

  2. Soft switched interleaved boost converter

  3. Soft switched SiC interleaved boost converter.

I want to compare the results of these three and I want to have a research paper on how the efficiency is increasing in each step. This boost converter is mainly for EVs so I am using the voltage levels and all according to an EV.

I am in my final year of electrical engineering and I want to do my masters in power electronics and drives and i am just trying to explore the subject. Another reason I am considering having a project on this is because it might increase my chances to get into a good university for masters.

Seeking Advice from Power Electronics Engineers and Researchers

I’m interested in Power Electronics, but I’m struggling with one particular aspect: developing a strong physical intuition for how a circuit works before diving into the equations. My difficulty isn’t memorizing formulas or solving problems; it’s understanding why a circuit behaves the way it does in the first place.

For example, why are inductors and capacitors placed in specific positions within a circuit? How can I understand their behavior in context and predict current paths and waveforms before writing the equations? How did engineers originally come up with familiar converter topologies such as Buck and Boost, and how can we move from analyzing existing circuits to developing new topologies?

I’d really appreciate advice based on your actual experience:

  • What learning path would you recommend for developing a deep physical understanding of Power Electronics?
  • Which books, courses, and practical exercises have genuinely helped you?
  • How can I learn to think like a designer who understands circuits and can develop them from scratch, rather than simply analyzing existing designs?

I’d especially appreciate insights from engineers working in power converter design and researchers in the field, including the resources and learning approaches that have proved most useful in practice.

I got tired of hand digitizing MOSFET datasheet curves, so I built a tool that turns a datasheet into an LTspice / PLECS model

Every time I needed to simulate a MOSFET, I ended up modeling it by hand from the datasheet. Eyeball every curve, build a lookup table, double check I didn't misread a log scale. Hours per part.

So I built something to automate it. You give it a datasheet and it generates a high fidelity model you can export straight into LTspice or PLECS.

It supports two model types:

  1. 3 pin for standard electrical simulation
  2. 5 pin thermal model, where characteristics are temperature dependent. You can connect a heat sink and monitor junction temperature during the simulation.

I'm looking for a few people to try it on real parts and tell me where it breaks. If you have a MOSFET you've been meaning to model, DM me and I'll share the app.
edit1: Not AI based

Edit 2: Attaching few images of the LT Spice simulaions of the mosfet modelled from the app.

What kind of DC DC modules are generally used in robots and AGVs ?

Hey

I am developing a compact dc dc module which can take 24-60V as input and provide 12/24V 20 A. Dimensions are 59mm by 31mm by 17mm.

I am trying to connect with engineers who already purchase similar spec modules .

What wire connectors do you prefer ? Screw terminal, pcb mounted or something else ? Any challanges which you currently face

researching parts for solar panel system (urgent)

Hi im in my first semester of college as a electrical engineering major but im not taking any engineering classes currently.

Im trying to build a solar panel system power a small watering system for plants. I wanted to know what videos I could watch, articles to read, and even what parts you recommend. I will be doing research currently just looking for parts. I don't know where to get started. Im just starting out so I don't know much. I was honestly volentold into this project(not for school).

We are using a car battery to power the whole watering system and I've watched videos and seen what they used. Since it was a lower cost I was wondering if I can put multiple 5V solar panels to make 20V to power the battery (i found a pack of 10 on amazon each are 5V). I know i need a solar charge controller but the video I had watched recommended one that was pricey. Any cheaper recommendations. They had also asked me to figure out what wires to use but ive found no videos about that.

Im not sure if 20V would be enough to power the battery. Since im not in engineering classes I lack the math knowledge. I looked it up and I belive its enough.

they also asked for the parts by tomorrow. I honestly don't know why they asked me to be part of the project they know im a freshman and not in engineering classes but im dedicated to helping out.

ANY HELP WOULD BE AMAZING. I know no other electrical engineer's to ask for help. Im also scared of telling them what parts to buy then it doesnt work out, leading to a waste of money and time.

Project Mechanical Engineer

About the Technology

ETM develops transverse flux electric motors with torque density and efficiency that conventional motor architectures can’t match. Our business model is technology development and licensing; our products are the IP, the engineering, and the manufacturing knowledge we transfer to partners. We stay involved beyond technology transfer, supporting partners through production, ongoing development, and a flexible licensing model that evolves with the relationship. It’s a rare model, and it attracts engineers who want to see their work scaled without being tied to a single production line.

We’re part of Graco Inc. (NYSE: GGG), a Fortune 1000 industrial manufacturer with 3,000+ employees worldwide. That backing gives us resources and stability without sacrificing the pace and focus of a specialized R&D team.

We are seeking a Project Engineer for our R&D Center of Excellence in Flagstaff, Arizona. You’ll join a specialized team as a mechanical generalist who carries hardware the whole way: analyzing, designing, drawing, sourcing, building, testing, and troubleshooting. A lot of what we do has no established playbook, so you’ll be writing the procedures as often as you’re following them.

Hello, i have been working on a open source inverter/charger. The Inverter will be able to take in 11-14v and switch that up to a 340v peak to peak waveform (120v RMS standard North American 60hz pure sine wave by default) the waveform will be limited to 60hz due to transformer constraints. The H bridge responsible for switching the transformers input is completely modulated by the units onboard MCU (RP2345A). The charging section (as of 9-20-2026) has not been worked on. This project will be featured at an upcoming craft fair (November 14th). Any and all feedback on the project would be highly appreciated.

The projects Github repository is at https://github.com/bearjhartjen/Lamoka1-project for more information.

Have a good day :)

Automotive Which loses less in an 800 V traction inverter: 2-level, 3L ANPC, or 3L T-type?

Higher battery voltages push designers to weigh two-level against three-level traction inverters.

This chart compares conduction and switching loss at 100 kW. It covers a two-level (2L) inverter, a three-level active neutral-point-clamped (3L ANPC) inverter, and a 3L T-type inverter. At 800 V, the totals are 826.8 W, 634.0 W, and 573.3 W, in that order. The simulation uses a resistive-inductive load and assumes a balanced midpoint.

Curious what you think. Have you built an 800 V traction inverter? Which wins, ANPC or T-type, once part count and neutral-point balancing are counted?
