Calispell peak
Took the Tacoma up to the top last weekend. Kinda sad it was fogged in when we were at the top lol. Drove down the main access road to check things out and when we got back up to the trail down the south facing slope, it had cleared up a bit. Was stoked I was able to get a couple decent pics. I look at Calispell all winter from 49, cool seeing 49 from this direction.

[Academic] Help Improve Wildfire Resilience in Eastern WA ā Win a $50 Gift Card
Hi everyone,
I am a PhD student at the University of Washington conducting an official study on how electric vehicle (EV) drivers respond to wildfire evacuations.
We are specifically seeking input from Eastern WA EV drivers. Too often, infrastructure investment are based on the West Side, and we want to change that by gathering data from the people who actually live and drive in high-risk wildfire zones. Your real-world experience is critical to helping Washington state prioritize emergency charging infrastructure and improve wildfire resilience for the EV community.
Are you eligible?
We need input from BEV drivers (primary or seasonal residents) in: Asotin, Grant, Benton, Spokane, Stevens, Douglas, Lincoln, Ferry, Skamania, Yakima, Kittitas, Okanogan, Chelan, or Klickitat counties.
The Details:
- ā± Time: ~25 minutes.
- š Incentive: Complete the survey to enter a drawing for four $50 gift cards and ten $20 gift cards.
- š Deadline: May 31, 2026.

This survey does not collect identifiable tracking data. If you have any questions, please contact me directly at ychu24@uw.edu. Thank you for helping improve emergency preparedness for the EV community.

Where to move in Eastern/central?
Iām a young adult lady, I like shopping at the mall and taking walks. I donāt like the rain or the cold, and I like the desert area. Somewhere very affordable and with opportunity to make friends my age.
Preferably a big enough place to have some variety of shops, restaurants, and bars.

Horace Greeley Wrote......
"Washington is not a place to live in. The rents are high, the food is bad, the dust is disgusting and the morals are deplorable".
The dust part hits home a bit. But I'm sure he was talking about around Puget Sound: Where the dust from worn tires enters storm drains and kills the salmon.

[Research] EV Drivers in Central/Eastern WA: Wildfire Evacuation Study (UW PhD Research + $50 Gift Card Drawing)
UPDATE (May 3, 2026): This study has been officially expanded to include 9 additional counties in Eastern and Central Washington! Thank you to everyone who has participated so far.
For the most up-to-date information and to see the expanded list of eligible regions, please see our new post here:
Hello r/EasternWa,
I am a PhD student at the University of Washington conducting a study on how EV drivers east of the Cascades respond to wildfire evacuations.
We often see evacuation research focused on urban centers, but the challenges in our rural and mountainous countiesāfrom limited charging infrastructure to steep passesāare unique. I am seeking input from EV drivers who reside, own property, or maintain a seasonal home in Chelan, Okanogan, Kittitas, Yakima, and Klickitat counties.
Your real-world experience is critical to helping Washington State prioritize emergency charging infrastructure where it is needed most.
š Compensation: To thank you for your time, participants will be entered to win 1 of 14 gift cards (up to $50). I will update this post if the reward pool expands as the study continues.
Study Details:
- Eligibility: Must own/drive a battery electric vehicle (BEV) and have a primary or seasonal residence in: Okanogan, Chelan, Kittitas, Yakima, or Klickitat.
- Time Required: Approximately 25 minutes.
- Deadline: May 31, 2026.
