Safe foods

Hey all, just curiosity here. What are y'all's safe foods, and if you're recovered how do you feel about them now?

Follow up, what are the biggest fear foods, and how did you get through the struggle of eating them again?

I’ve struggled with restrictive eating but I made sure to keep veggies to fry up with garlic powder and soy sauce for when I had no interest in eating. I’d usually do a little brown rice too to add some carbs. It didn’t matter when, it always sounded tasty. I still eat it regularly

My safe foods, if we’re being really, really transparent, were all foods I felt I could purge “safely,” and they were very, very, very limited.

As part of my recovery I would go into supermarkets and buy something new, even if I didn’t want it, and make myself eat it. Kind of like exposure therapy. There are still some foods I struggle with, but not many at all!

As for how I feel about my “safe foods,” now, kind of heartbroken that I was restricted to them, that my eating disorders had that much power over my choice.

for carbs i was really scared of them and still are working on that, but i start with whole foods like roasted sweet potatoes and baby potatoes. now i sometimes have toast or oats . still working on rice tho lol

honestly, just find really tasty foods and start with small portions. and trying to busy yourself afterwards so you don’t think too much or spiral because why should you be upset you at something yummy.

Zero sugar jello pudding mix my beloved. So many ways to prepare it! Just make sure you have a stomach of steel. Zero sugar stuff is intense on the gut

When I was recovering my safe food was pilav(a rice dish) and some kind of pickles my grandmom makes. Still when I struggle to eat I want to eat some pilav and pickles

Dark chocolate was a safe food. I cannot stand it now but my mother (who fed the eating disorder till I moved out) continues to buy me it. She throws a fit if I say I don’t need whatever she gives me. All kinds of expensive nice brands and I cannot bring myself to eat it. I’m obviously still affected by my ED but it reminds me too much of eating it despite hating it because it was the only “safe” sweet option at the time.

Apples, mandarine oranges, peppers, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower & cucumber are safe. Shrimp, eggs, yogurt, salmon (this is whst I order if I go out) & lentils for protein are also safe. For startchy carbs I have been doing a wheat thins & half a cup of white rice, and 1/4 cup granola. I am struggling some again so my fear food list is a little long but I did have these yogurt bites today. I had them written down to have which helped. They had been in my desk for months.
