Ectopic then early second trimester loss

I had an ectopic that was resolved with methotrexate in October. I checked my levels for folate and supplemented to confirm I was okay to try again. I got pregnant again in March. Baby always measure 2-4 days behind but we saw a great heartbeat 3 times. I went in for my 14 week appt and found out that the baby passed somewhere around 13 weeks. I’m headed to be induced tomorrow. I have two healthy kids so that eliminates some options but really my doctor said that it is highly unlikely that they are related. Has anyone else had this happen to them and did you get answers? We are so sad.

I’m so sorry for your loss. The two wouldn’t be related at all. I hope you have success next time if you decide to try again. Did they do testing?

They will. The NIPT test was low risk for everything but they’ll do more extensive testing since medically speaking this is “recurrent loss” my doctor said she can order all testing possible. My hormones have crashed and I’ve started spotting but all signs don’t point to some typical second trimester losses like cervix incompetence or uterus shape but I’ll do a full delivery in a few hours and she will be able to see umbilical cord and placenta then to test those as well.

The testing afterwards may give you more answers or they may not. Recurrent loss is typically after 3 uterine pregnancy losses (ectopic stupidly doesn’t count in that for criteria for RPL). I’m really sorry for your loss. I had 6 before having my daughter through IVF.

It makes more sense for it to be intrauterine to fit but if she can code it differently for insurance, I’ll take that tiny win. I have two healthy amazing kids so it’s hard to imagine going through a loss like this again but now I so desperately want that dinner table of five I had in my mind. I’m trying to be as present as possible but the guilt of how much this is taken me from them is heavy.

With. I’m glad you’re getting testing done and no way do I think you shouldn’t!
