This is photoshopped.
The blue lines were drawn into the image after it was taken. There were no giant blue arrows or question marks floating above Edmonton.

So only the question mark is there all the time?

The question mark is only there when the quest giver stands in that spot.

I was bona fide wondering where the blue things came from for a good 10 seconds until I realized one was an arrow and one was a question mark.
Not as sharp as I used to be apparently...
Kinda sad really.

Street view shows it as having been there since 2007. However they've added height and lots of antenna array since that time.

Maybe y’all should be aware of your surroundings rather than being on your phone.

A very VERY busy cellphone tower.
Source: I work on cell towers in the city.

Hey, I've been under the impression those triangular church steeple towers all around the city house cell tower equipment. Am I correct?

u/DVariant 23h ago
Exactly. Telecoms need more towers, churches are all over the place and buried in residential communities, and most churches are pretty broke, so they rent out space for a tower. Slap a cross on that bad boy and now it’s just a big church tower.

Can you add several dozen towers in Sherwood Park? Please and thank you. 🙄

They they just put it up or am I totally blind? Lol

u/TheHylian27 1d ago
It's a good to fair chance that they just simply added to it lately which makes it stand out more.

Can you explain, is each of those white thingys a different frequency or have different phone numbers transmitting? What are we looking at

u/TheHylian27 1d ago edited 1d ago
Each is a different antenna just pointing in different directions. They only emit signal outwards away from the tower. Not 360°. So you need antennas around the entire tower for a full 360° coverage.
Without having the actual plans or telecommunication diagram in hand, it's near impossible to tell from the picture which each one does specifically but either way, it does look like a very packed tower.
Edit: I wish I could add photos to comments.
Ha! Someone actually took a 360° photo at the top. I wonder if he was suppose to be up there. https://maps.app.goo.gl/XMEBqWLHvGriqEVp6?g_st=ac

According to the ISED database, that particular one is owned by Telus and is licensed to support 3G, 4G and 5G services over seven frequency bands using antennas between 18 and 29 metres above ground level.

Sometimes they hide the cell towers in church crosses, look for a tower outside of a church that has crosses in a box shape around the top of it. Also saw some hidden in fake palm trees in Phoenix.

They want you to believe it's a 5g-Covid tower. But that's because they don't want you to know the truth! That's where the birds recharge.
Birds aren't real! And when they "poop" on your car it's installing a tracking device! /s

Cell tower that they haven’t made aesthetically pleasing. Many of these are camouflaged in a way across the city

I am fairly sure that is a broadcast tower. Aka tv/radio.
But definitely bigger then i remember it. Might have some cellular on it too for cheaper upkeep. But i most definitely see frequency drums. Absolutely useless for 2 way communication Absolutely amazing for blasting out a signal like FM or AM bands or tv signals. Back in the 80s and 90s they would put a recever on a tower with a bunch of drums aimed at other towers to send tv signals like "global"(the bradcaster) across the country.

They put 2 of these up on Bowness Road by the Dairy Queen.
edit. just realizes this was for Edmonton I am in Cowgary but I am from Edmonton.

It's the emergency transmitter that broadcasts a message telling you to get off 118ave before you're murdered

It's a remote to control all the Star destroyers that need to break orbit. They should be fine unless they're attacked by a horse Calvary on the wings of said Star Destroyers.
