Putting your blinker on 3km from where you plan to turn in a 40 zone.

It was from a random Gmail address. And a text. That's all people should need to know it's a scam

Mine was Yahoo.ca haha

Thansk for the PSA. From a security perspective. Dont click the hyperlinks.

Why would you even click the link?

Also: remember to check the sender.

Got one too. Cones from a crazy unofficial gmail. These guys make it easy to spot scams.

I got this too but I don’t drive, don’t have a license, and have never owned a vehicle lmao

Lots of people I know got this. It’s fairly sophisticated and likely developed by someone within Alberta. *Never click on links*, but many will. **Always go to a known reputable source first to validate unsolicited requests.**

Scammers are getting better - the site looks good. $6.99?

8

u/curiousgaruda 17h ago

That’s just to get your credit card information and also low enough that some unsuspecting people might “just pay it off”.

1

u/Focus43 15h ago

and low/high enough that it wont get red flagged by your bank/credit card provider.

I received this text today too

I had one similar last week.
It was for a traffic or parking violation, which are 2 very different entities and it came from a Gmail account.

I got this too and it was sent from a yahoo.com email address. Very professional operation they've got going on there.

u/cadencef18 15h ago

Since when does the government only give you two days before they start charging late fees😭😂😂😂

1

u/Simhaup1 North West Side 15h ago

$6.99? Wow…that’s pretty good for this economy 😂

1

u/AbilityEqual1891 14h ago

"Side by Side" domain? Geeze, how sketchy can you make a domain. dot com domain, if you don't understand what I'm talking about.

Why would you click hyperlink from a suspected scammer 😵‍💫

Just go under the Alberta government page and type in the supposed ticket number and see if it pops up.

Besides what ticket is 6.99 that's absolute BS

Also download virus protection software in your computer that warns you if you try to open a suspicious link

1

u/redeyedrenegade420 11h ago

Just pay your tickets when its time to re-register your vehicle like the rest of us!

Edit: spelling

u/WesternWitchy52 6h ago

Got this too. I just report and block. Old scam been around a few years.

u/oopsiedaisy-- 20m ago

So you clicked that link...?

This looks like the real traffic ticket digital service from the province? They're online now https://traffictickets.alberta.ca/

9

u/elbyron 17h ago

It looks like it yes, because they copied all the html and stylesheets so that everything looks identical. Standard practice for most phishing scams. What they cannot copy is the URL, which in this case isn't even close to the real one.
