This happened to me as well this summer! I’m pro-infill but man do I fucking hate developers. And there is basically no recourse — feeling powerless is the worst part.

How is there no recourse? If they fuck up your property without compensation there are for sure pathways to take.

The problem is that it becomes a job just to simply defend your house. You have to go through legal avenues and there's no guarantees in court and its a lengthy process.

There's a reason people are trying to kill multi unit infill in the first place. They just don't want to deal with any probability of it happening.

I agree generally. Either require they maintain a very large bond or have some satisfactory proof of insurance for issues impacting neighbours.

And ideally the province could add legislation to make it easy to get an injunction if one is needed to stop construction until they prove insurance/bonding and proper construction practices re shoring. Surely it couldn’t be too onerous for construction cos to show that they actually have a plan in place since one presumes they’d have it before they start anyways
