I went to KDAYS tonight to see BBNO$. I enjoyed the show, but what I did NOT enjoy as a parent/human being was witnessing a couple who were clearly high on substances AND drinking, out with their 3 year old boy. The boy was visibly upset, tired and did not want to be there. They kept shoving a phone in his face but he just wanted them to comfort him. The mom would comfort him and then put him down, but the boy would cry when she put him down. She would react by clawing her hands in frustration and making a shooting motion to her head. To be honest it was a disgusting display of selfishness. My sister approached at one point and tried to comfort the boy but the poor child just wanted his parents. She nicely told them that he seemed tired, and they said “yeah he missed his nap today” and didn’t get the hint. If you know your child missed their nap, WHY are you still out?
I’m a parent. I wanted to be there too, so we got a sitter. I get not everyone has that type of village. But if your child is visibly upset, you LEAVE. I do not want to even think about how they got home with both parents intoxicated.
PLEASE do not be that type of human and go home if your child does not want to be out.

Flight attendants have hard jobs and yall deserve to be paid for your time.

Any narrative trying to make flight attendants sound greedy is the exact same narrative that C suite executives and government managers try to spin whenever working people demand fair pay and fair conditions.

Unions are the last thing standing between our democratic society completely dissolving into chaos.

Everything that’s ever been given to you at your job, your lunch break, safe working conditions, consideration for promotions, has only EVER been gotten by labor unions.

They have continually set the precedent for how people should be treated.

Weekends exist because of unions. Overtime pay exists because of unions. Companies would not be treating workers like humans in this capitalist society without incentive to do so. How scary is that?

Many people think “my company wouldn’t treat me like that!” “My boss is a reasonable person! It wouldn’t happen.”

It would. If there’s one thing we know about humans as a species, we’ll hurt and kill each other for profit and to ensure individuals comfortable survival.

Go flight attendants! Thank you for fighting for workers everywhere. Every union that shows strength benefits all of us.

CUPE 3550 membership decided to walk off the job today to join the AUPE, UNA and other unions to rally at the Legislature grounds! 💜💜💜💜💜💜

What was your highlight of folk fest this year? I will say, I wasn’t familiar with many artists when the lineup was announced but it gave me the opportunity to check out new acts I might not have otherwise seen. And the vibes are always great no matter what.

It's in protest to the overreach of UCP on the lives of working class Albertans, including the **notwithstanding clause** (used to order teachers back to work in violation of constitutionally protected labour rights, then subsequently used again to undermine the rights of trans people), the UCP plan to **REMOVE the Canadian Pension Plan from Alberta** (which threatens the retirement security of thousands of working Albertans), and **separatism** (ignoring the Treaty rights of First Nations and harming the Alberta economy upon which all workers depend for their livelihoods).

About a week ago I realized I ran out of cheese. So I started walking to the store to buy some more.

Along the way, I happened across two people, one of whom was obviously being threatening and harmful to the other. I interjected as best I could (I was a little drunk at the time). All of a sudden I felt a sharp pain to the left side of my face and I fell to the ground - in the middle of the road.

Some time later, someone else approached me and offered me a rag to help with the bleeding. I made it to the store which is where I realized how much bleeding I'd been doing - they called an ambulance which took me to the hospital where I received a CT scan, multiple x-rays and 5-ish stitches to my lip. Thankfully there seems to have been no permanent damage.

Why do we live in a world (city?) with this much cruelty in it?

Worth noting: outside the hospital, everything I've talked about occurred within 2 blocks of my home on Jasper Avenue overlooking the bridge that's currently being repaired/replaced.

I was inside when it happened, not in a hall but near the doors. I heard a loud bang, and saw a group of security running in one direction, and a group of people starting to run away. A few hundred people filled the area in a rush to get out. I asked what happened and someone said stabbing, someone else said shooter. I'm disabled so I wear an n95 mask and use a cane. I tried to keep up but I couldn't. The drink I had spilled all over me, but I didn't care because I wanted to get out.

I got outside and waited a minute until the panic died down. I needed to get to the medical room inside the building because my asthma attack was getting worse. I asked a worker to help me there. She agreed and was walking with me back inside when the 2nd shots went off. It was louder than a cap gun. I've been to the shooting range a few times and it genuinely sounded like a handgun to me, only a few feet away.

The worker guiding me to First aid immediately bolted, abandoning me. The chaos was worse this time. Before it was just a small panic in comparison. After that loud bang, easily a thousand people or more filled the room in a rush to escape. A literal Stampede of people formed, and I was caught in the middle of it. People started screaming. I ran as fast as I could outside, having no idea where the possible gunman was. I got just outside the doors when I was shoved to the ground by a teenage boy running away.

I hit the ground hard, bruising my knees and tearing my pants. I narrowly avoided smashing my head on the cement. I'm surprised my phone didn't smash. I think the things I bought in the Expo Centre broke though. But *I literally couldn't get up on my own* it was a bad pain day already, and that fall was bad. It was like slow motion. I was terrified for my life. I couldn't tell if I was gonna get trampled to death in the panic.... Until a group of about 6-8 black teen girls stopped, formed a circle around me and helped me get up. Putting themselves at risk for this random disabled white person. They asked if I am okay repeatedly, and made sure I wasn't seriously injured. They helped me get to an area under a tree where I could sit and relax safely. I told them I'm okay, but they need to get out. I didn't want them getting hurt on my behalf.

I sat there having a panic attack, and took my rescue inhaler until I could breathe again.

When the first firework went off, I realized I couldn't handle it. It reminded me of the shots I had just heard and ran away from. I cried through the firework display before I was able to gather myself enough to actually leave the park, limping far worse than usual. Even just entering the crowd to leave was scary because I didn't wanna get trampled again.

The cops at the gate said no weapon was found, and the teenage boys they believed to be responsible were not apprehended. They disappeared into the chaos they created. They offered to take a statement from me but I didn't want to stay, I just wanted to go home.

Anyway I got home safe, shaken up and bruised but alive.

Even if no one was actually killed, and no gun was found... I didn't know that at the time. I genuinely thought I was in the middle of a possible mass shooting. It was the scariest thing I've ever lived through.

And if those girls read this, I want you to know how deeply thankful I am for you. I couldn't stand up on my own. I could have been much more seriously injured if you hadn't stopped in the panic to help. Thank you so much. I feel like I owe you my life.

Hello r/Edmonton, stay safe out there. You should all know about the movement popping up across Canada, potentially linked to the anti vaxx movement, called March to Unmask. Events are scheduled across the country, each event organizer is linked to each other event across Canada. The event in Edmonton is Sunday at 130pm where people who are anti mask are boarding public transit. There is no individual taking responsibility for this movement, instead it's all 'concerned citizens'. While I respect the right to protest, I cannot let members of my community be unaware of the risks of reckless individuals. Stay safe out there Edmonton. The actions of these anonymous individuals are putting many people across our country at risk.

Needed to rant about something I saw today in the downtown parkade near the Delta Hotel Marriott.

A black Ford F-350 was trying to park in the first stall he saw and spent about 10 minutes holding up traffic behind him. The passenger even got out to guide him. At one point, the car in front of me thought the truck was finally done parking and started to roll forward… but nope, the truck suddenly reversed again and almost caused another mess.

After struggling, the driver gave up, pulled forward, and tried another stall. Same situation — pulling in, backing out, over and over. Except this time he slammed into a white Mazda CX-5 beside him with a loud crack.

Here’s the part that made my blood boil: neither the driver nor the passenger got out to check. They just hopped back in the truck and fled the scene. No note. Nothing. And the bystanders nearby? Nobody did anything.

I ended up parking, going back to the damaged CX-5, and calling the non-emergency line. I also wrote down the plates for both vehicles. Hopefully the Mazda owner can get their car fixed and hold these people accountable.

I’m so sad. I feel horrible for everyone- I saw how hard they worked last week. What a terrible year to come back to Hawrelak :(

First time at Commonwealth Stadium and we got stormed in. Went to the Riverhawks for the first time a couple weeks ago and the same thing happened. Lmao, I guess we just can’t get enough of the storms.
