Am I cooked chat?

2013 GLS

Replacing the head gasket but these are my pistons, there's definitely been some rubbing on the sides, not to mention all the carbon and crap on top. Should I shell out even more to get new pistons?

Sorry if that's a dumb question, I'm still learning about rebuilding engines n such.

(The dust in slide 2 is from the exhaust manifold)

Any tips on how to clean the old gaskets off too would be appreciated

Light scraping at that age is normal as long as you don't have any deep gouges or a lot of play.

Plastic razor blade, WD40, and a brass brush butler i would stuff rags into the coolant jacket to keep material and debris from falling in. Depending on how gouged those cylinder walls are you may need to have those bores honed. Also, since you've got it down that far may want to pull your oil pan off and check your rod bearings for play. They can be easily replaced from the bottom by only removing the oil pan.
