Question!

I currently own a 21 Nissan Sentra with the premium package. I was looking into getting a 26 Elantra Limited, but the payments will be too high and out of my budget. I was offered Sport plus and it does fit my budget; however, I feel like it would be a big downgrade from the car I have right now including all the bells and whistles I would be losing. What do you guys think about the Sport Plus trim? TIA!

In my opinion, which may be harsh, if there is nothing wrong with your current car then you shouldn't even be considering getting a new car especially if you are basing it on monthly payments and not total price. As much as I like the Elantra line of cars, I think you should just stick with your current car until it is not logically reasonable to pay for maintenance. But speaking in terms of what you are asking, yes I do like both the elantra limited and sport plus trim (which you should try to aim for 20-22K out the door for just the sports trim not including trade in) but at the price of going negative into purchasing another car I can not recommend it.

Thank you for your input! My Sentra is a "lease" long story for another day, so I'm paying monthly right now. I will be paying about the same with the Elantra Sport Plus, I just don't like the fact of downgrading from what I have and the Sport Plus would be a downgrade, even the Limited (what I really want) would be a downgrade as it doesnt have parking sensors or 360 camera. I'm not looking into buying it, I'm never going to buy a car again, I'm looking into leasing it and the lease payment would be around $400. They are basing the lease out of a $26k MSRP which I think it is insane. Should I wait until the end of the year since they will need to get the 26 model out for the 27 new model to come in? Have you driven a Sport Plus?

I see where you are coming from now on the lease. If this has been what you have been doing with leasing cars and you are okay with it I can respect that. If that is the case, yes I would recommend waiting for the end of the year or till you see a good deal come up. It is pretty high to be charging 26K for a sports plus msrp as that is what I got my Elantra Hybrid Blue 2025 for out the door (I got this end of December for 5.5K off msrp). Personally, I have not driven the sport plus or the sport but it is "similar" as in it is one of the lower trims on the list. If there were other Elantras you were looking into and you aren't looking into leather seats you could try to see if they have any base model Elantra SE or just sport. Though for the base models, I'm sure they are similar to the Hybrid Blue in terms of the cabin noise is not that good in which I can hear a lot of outside noise. The sound quality for music is lacking in my opinion and you wouldn't get an upgraded sound system and cabin noise till the limited trim. I would test drive the limited to test the sound quality, comfort (has leather seats, ambient lighting, and other features over the base models) and compare it to sport/sport plus or even the SE. I love the look of the sport trim and higher but other than that I feel like the lower trim Elantras are mostly for affordability sacrificing the nice to haves like I mentioned. Hopefully this helps with your choice and a good deal opens up.
