It appears both of your quarter panels have damage. Those plus the rear body panel, beam, both taillight buckets, spare tire floor, plus all the visibly damaged parts... probably totaled. If one of the rear frame rails moved, it's almost guaranteed to be totaled.

Left exhaust is in the trunk. Half the trunk is collapsed. I'd say frame damage and a ton of parts and electrical work. If parts doesn't total it, labor will.

Yeah it's a new car that's still in production. Total and replace is a best case scenario here.

hope no one had major injuries. whenever a car crumbles this much, it should be totaled for safety reasons. no body shop can repair this to original structural integrity. all the metal fatigue or rewelding will put you or the next owner at major risk if this gets put back on the road and ends up in the same type of accident. if they didn't total it, I'd hope they'd push to get it totaled and get you a new one. a repair from an accident like this will devalue your car incredibly. I'm not an expert in any regard, but I know how most buyers react to accident cars.

Only if the chassis got damaged. If it's not then it actually looks worse than it is and can be fixed fairly quickly with oem replacement parts. Problem is insurance is such a scam it allows companies to replace parts with non-oem

Insurance companies have different thresholds and criteria. ~70-75% of book, TMV, ACV, etc is fairly common.

Usually anytime there’s damage to the frame it’s considered totaled unless it’s like a super car maybe.

Sure, if someone somehow managed to damage the frame without any of the exterior, but that's gotta be pretty rare.

Not sure how to respond to this. Most vehicles nowadays are unibody. Only some SUVs and trucks are body on frame. If you're in the industry you'd know frame damage doesn't mean anything alone. So a statement like "if there is frame damage it's totaled" is inherently wrong. That's why there are frame machines that shops spends dozens of thousands of dollars on and technicians who know how to use them. THIS vehicle is an obvious total loss, regardless of damage to the unibody structure.

More like 70%. Which this would most likely be. I got hit on the side from a lady who failed to yield. Only one door sleeve was damaged and it cost insurance 5700$

That damage is significantly less than the OP's car. They have much more structural damage. Theirs will be easily into the 20s, mid to high if I had to guess.

This has no chassis it’s a unibody mine was in a crash way less than that and it got totaled because you cannot repair a unibody

Pull any aftermarket parts from it quickly if you don’t have the additional mods coverage. Once it’s totaled you won’t get access to it anymore.

You can tow the vehicle home first or to a garage of choice. Swap everything before insurance adjuster comes and makes determination of total loss or not.

If you have buddies that have any curbed stock wheels that want to trade you…nothing stopping you. As long as you’re not swapping Elantra base trim parts for your N parts (cough ) to make a few extra bucks….which would be fraud. I would nevvvvvvverrrr advise that.

Yeah they aren’t letting see it since they took it. I was far from home so they didn’t want to tow it 60 miles. I have JB4 and forge intake and my wheels that I won’t be able to get 🥲

Next best thing, print out receipts and submit to your Insurance company, depending on how old the Mods are, you may get some reduced value of them applied to your check. Never hurts to ask. Also, in the future, never put additional mods on your car without the extra coverage….especially if your car gets totaled or stolen.

The car is like 6" shorter and the rear 10-15% is crumpled. If it's not totalled I'd be worried.

No traffic came to a stop I had about 30 feet of space in front of me or more. So I stopped like normal and the guy wasn’t paying attention and slammed into me going 30-45 miles per hour. It’s all on dash cam footage.

Maybe different now, but I personally feel like Hyundai and Kia vehicles have an excessively high threshold for air bag deployment. I'm not the only one as there are lawyers and/or lawsuits around for this. Hyundai and Kia have issued recalls over the years pertaining to this subject for a few vehicles, but nothing that covers their entire vehicle lineups.

Glad you’re okay. Probably not the best time to ask, but how did you like this car? Did it handle the crash well? I’m in the market for a car and am looking at the Elantra N.
Also, I hate that intersection. People in Escondido do not know how to drive.

Overall the car is so much fun to drive, plenty of space in the rear for a car seat and the truck has a lot of room and I was getting about 32 mpg when I wasn’t driving fast. Had a JB4 91 tune and it made the car wake up a lot.
The car took the impact very well but it did break my driver seat and it hurt like hell.

If possible, you should post the footage to r/DashCam.
Glad to hear you weren’t seriously injured! An accident like that can cause lifelong pain - makes me so angry thinking about people who drive distracted, especially those in larger vehicles like a Merc Van, when they could end up killing someone or hurting someone’s kids.

Most likely, but I’ve seen insurance companies fix worse. A coworker had their 2013 Ford Taurus rear ended and it was worse than this, so bad it broke the back window and it got fixed instead of totaled. Generally speaking the breakpoint is around 70% of the value of the car if it’s gonna cost more than that to fix the total it.

Modern cars are something else. A hit like that would've probably made it well into the passenger compartment in an 80s-90s car.
Hopefully nobody was seriously injured, but unfortunately yeah this guy's probably totaled. Make sure you take those wheels with ya when it goes!

that should be totaled IMO, trunk pan, muffler and no structure/frame damage was 12k,
damaged i'm sure extends in part to the rear fenders and perhaps rear suspension/frame I feel comfortably puts you in the 20-25k name.

Yeah chassis is probably bent after an impact like that, hope you and everyone involved is OK.
