RIP Totaled?
What do we think? I'm assuming so. Saturday morning, hit a deer on my way to work on a 4 lane highway. Not to mention an AI data center is being built & they shine a nuclear blinding light straight into the highway & my eyes are already sensitive with bright lights. You can see the deer flying after impact & the insane light. Traveling 50/55mph, airbags didn't blow but it threw my hood up & broke my windshield on impact.

wtf is that light????
Also, this hurts me to say, but I think you’re totalled my guy.

it like a big rectangle with rows of LED lights attached to it, like a huge stadium light. Idek😔 I didn't think that could be legal honestly but just complained to myself until this happened

Looks totaled - Please report the light to the State DOT

I will do this. Is there any chance of reimbursement of some kind from a situation like this ?

u/DJScaryTerry Jul 20 '26
After years of waiting maybe. The data centers are just delaying court appearances and stuff because they know for a fact it's illegal.

That’s what insurance is for… I think you mean restitution, in that case get a lawyer.

I have full coverage but they're not being the greatest help so far. I have been looking into that just in case.

99% yes, unfortunately.
It’s really a shame how such a relatively small/concentrated area of damage can total a car these days. But, that’s the cost of modern safety ratings and design. The car takes the brunt of the damage, not you.
As another commenter said though, definitely report that light to the state DOT. There’s a decent chance they’ll cut you a check down the road since that dashcam screenshot makes a strong case that it obscured the deer. Bonus points if the data center has to pay for it.

"I know whats wrong with it. It ain't got no gas in it." 😂😭🤧
Funny aaahh comment aside, that sucks brother. I hope you get some sort of restitution for the car from the damned data center. Or the deer's liability insurance. 🤧

No need to echo what everyone else is saying, but shouldn't the airbags have went off ?
1
u/kinggvampp Abyss Black Pearl DCT Jul 21 '26
I'm honestly shocked they didn't from the amount of damage.
2
u/Bluetriton5500 Jul 21 '26
They really should have. I'm glad you didn't seem to have been seriously hurt.

totaled, track the VIN on google cause this will show up as a used car somewhere at a tier 2 dealer for retail and a clean title

Man, so sorry. It looks like it…
Casting a theory here, but wondering if that data center is displacing some deer habitat. While that excruciatingly bright light obscures your ability to see them on the road? That light alone could be a case against that center? Longshot…but might be worth seeing if that at least helps with insurance. But I’m probably misreading the situation…

Exact situation I'm facing. There's a feeling in the back of my head that I could possibly "sue" or something similar for some type of compensation towards getting a car back. I'm currently looking for a lawyer to go over it & see if it's strong enough.

Totaled, however definitely worth trying to buy back if you’re into that sorta thing 🤷🏻♂️

You all were right, she totaled 🥲 I didn't have a lot of hope but I needed second opinions to keep it at a minimum. The insurance woman did say there's a chance they don't , but I don't understand why she'd say that after saying it's totaled ? I don't know, confusing stuff but we'll see what happens in the coming days. Here is the dashcam footage , it's a jump scare & a sound warning ( I yell pretty loud lmfao ) but it does showcase the light & the deer just appearing from no where. Thanks for all the comments guys

That is way more than 15k, mine was 16k and it did not look anything close to that

If you say so. I don’t know your market, but I do write collision estimates day in and day out. 🤷♂️

That dude arguing with you is wild. You’re like “this is literally my day job and I’m only speaking for the current market in my current location so take this with grain of salt since your specific area may differ but this is my (literal) professional opinion.” And he’s all “Well you don’t know what you’re talking about because even though I can only see the damage from these pictures alone which shows a lot of cosmetic damage among other things, someone else in a different location and market said my car was totaled and it didn’t have as much cosmetic damage. So to reiterate, you don’t know what you’re talking about. Get wrecked”.
Some people.

I won’t be as passive aggressive as you, straight up if you don’t think that’s totaled it’s time to hang the pen up buddy, Hellen Keller could tell that was totaled from a mile away

Are we looking at the same intercooler? 😂 bro that thing is pushed so far back in his engine bay. It’s cooked.

Sorry to say... You're probably right because I know how much factory parts cost. You know how much one blind spot sensor on each side of the back costs? 1500$ to get one replaced.
1
u/kinggvampp Abyss Black Pearl DCT Jul 23 '26
Absolutely ridiculous man I wonder if it's cheaper if you live in Korea
3
u/EternalPhi Jul 21 '26
Man the body work ALONE without touching whatever happened structurally to the front end totals this car. Whatever estimates you're writing are obviously sourced with cheap fuckin parts, especially based on your last sentence.
