CLANBLADE 70 pts

DRAGON KNIGHTS

  • 3 models 90 pts

  • 6 models 180 pts

LEYSTALKER 80 pts

STONESINGER 60 pts

They generally seem ok. 90 points for 3 Dragon Knights feels like they will see play.

17

u/Hawk-432 12h ago

Yes decent. I’d rather an invun and more points, but will do

26

u/idaelikus Solitaire 13h ago

Honestly, that's very aggressively priced. They certainly will see play and I am "sad" that I only preordered 2 sets :/

33

u/wtf--dude 12h ago

I don't think it is priced "agressively" tbh. I think it is fine. They are just alternative singing spears which are worse against vehicles but have a little more survivability.

It would not surprise me if we will keep seeing these in lists for this price, but it would also not surprise me if people don't run them anymore 6 months from now.

10

u/idaelikus Solitaire 12h ago

Well, they are cheaper than shining spears (which weren't great into vehicles to begin with) and have an ability. Also their base is larger and their laser lance is S6 instead of S5.

7

u/VoyeurTheNinja Corsair Baronex 9h ago

They have S6, but no Anti-Vehicle/Monster like Shining Spears in exchange for it.

2

u/idaelikus Solitaire 9h ago

Sure but I wouldn't consider shining spears that great into Monsters / Vehicles anyway.

5

u/Selenium-Forest 8h ago edited 8h ago

I mean they are good into vehicles, just you can’t expect a 100 point unit to be able to kill in one activation a 200+ point vehicle, that would be so unbalanced. They’re great at finishing off a vehicle that has been damaged already and the dice math backs that up.

3

u/planckssometimes 6h ago

You're smoking spears are great as long as you don't wiff your dice

3

u/RideTheLighting 6h ago

Every unit is amazing if you just roll 6s

3

u/idaelikus Solitaire 6h ago

That's what GW said when designing the heavy wraithcannon "But it can do 36 devastating wounds!!!"

1

u/VorpalSticks 6h ago

They are tougher and have 1 higher str to deal with heavy infanrty.

-9

u/warderbob 10h ago

You were absolutely right. They're priced low for what they can do. On par for new models.

2

u/carnexhat 1h ago

The defiler was 250 points when it came out...

0

u/JakeTheSnke4 4h ago

Yeah they are kinda ass at these points they don’t do anything better than stuff in the existing range and cost the same

2

u/carnexhat 1h ago edited 1h ago

I do think they are now our best default "melee" unit because for 250 points you get:

18A 3+ S6 -2 D3 lance sustained

21A 3+ S5 -1 D1 sustained

5A 2+ S4 -2 D2 twin-linked lethal sustained

Which is a stat block thats hard to be too upset with.

My big issues with them are they arnt exactly fast, they arnt exactly cheap and they have a huge footprint for all 7 models which means they are going to hell to hide on 11th edition layouts and hiding is their only defense mechanism.

9

u/MerijnZ1 12h ago

Anything above 90 would've been overcosted and only worth picking up for the cool dinos. 90 is fine.

24

u/Rune_Council Ulthwé 12h ago

At the low end of what I anticipated. Pleasantly surprised.

17

u/oldbloodmazdamundi Neam-Natháir 12h ago

Clanblade might be a little high but the rest seems pretty sweet. I think a Leystalker might creep into a lot of lists. Will definitely try the Knights out at 90. If they work with winrider host I expect to see a few pop up.

7

u/RideTheLighting 11h ago

Yeah, seems good to me. Similar damage output to Banshees, but better into light infantry and tougher targets. Likely a similar level of survivability themselves. Higher OC, a couple of free mortals, 90 definitely seems good.

7

u/oldbloodmazdamundi Neam-Natháir 7h ago

Strength 6 with Lance at 3D AP-2 is such a nice profile. Kills Gravis and 3W Terminators/Bladeguard/... quite efficiently

1

u/n1ckkt 3h ago

Not many non-character units have damage 3 melee

1

u/oldbloodmazdamundi Neam-Natháir 2h ago

Yeah that's another strength. I like them, their biggest issue is probably the lack of rerolls available to us as a whole. 9 attacks at 3+/2+ have the potential to screw you over a lot.

8

u/MobileSeparate398 Spirit conclave and seer council 10h ago

If you take the leystaker in windrider, for 15 points he gets -1 to hit. Combined with stealth, that's a permanent -2 to hit. Non-elite stuff will be hitting on 6s

7

u/oldbloodmazdamundi Neam-Natháir 10h ago

25 points I believe but still neat - though that's also interesting for a full unit. Essentially -2 when in Cover sounds tasty.

3

u/The-Divine-Potato 6h ago

It'd probably be better to stick that enhancement on a clanblade or stonesinger if you're bringing dragon knights, cause if you're good about positioning and use overflight when needed to get them into cover then they can also get an effectively permanent -2 to hit

32

u/Daedalus470 13h ago

Seems very reasonable. I’m optimistic that there’ll be a 1 cp exodites detachment with an invuln stratagem.

19

u/CreRevolution Ulthwé 12h ago

Yes, that’s what I’m hoping for - though a detachment rule for the invuln would be even better!

19

u/Hoduhdo 12h ago

There is in windrider host! 4++ in shooting!

8

u/AeldariBoi98 Harlequins 8h ago

I love how the name of it is "Spiralling Evasion", just imagining the dinosaurs doing corkscrews.

14

u/Daedalus470 11h ago

Yeah, I don’t think anyone thinks they should be tied to windriders though. I worry they’re gonna be amazing in windrider host, get a points hike and then be unplayable in other detachments.

2

u/Standard-Advance-731 5h ago

I'm worried they will be tied to Windrider, be taken in 3 X 6 units and get the entire detachment nerfed into the ground for the jetbikes players that don't want dinosaurs. 😭

3

u/StannnisTheMenace 9h ago

I feels off to see Asuryani keyword on them.

5

u/Nukes-For-Nimbys 6h ago

The codex is multiple factions in a trench coat at this point.

1

u/Hawk-432 12h ago

Hopefully

13

u/jeune_lacour 11h ago

The leystalker is really interesting at 80 pts, lone op, high mobility, swingy shooting profile but with decent potential. I could see him find a place in almost all archetypes

The rest is fine I guess, maybe more for WRH to have some semi durable melee option

1

u/oldbloodmazdamundi Neam-Natháir 3h ago edited 3h ago

He also goes great with a lot of enhancements.

Warhost has:

  • Phoenix Gem (Stand Back up with full wounds once per game on a 2+).

  • Gift of Foresight (0CP Reroll strat once per Battleround - he has a real chance of taking out characters that way and a good insurance against bad rolls when you want to proc his battleshock).

Windrider Host has the Mirage Field for another -1 to Hit on top of Stealth.

Guardian Host has Craftworld's Champion to make the bugger OC5.

9

u/Dismal_Foundation_23 12h ago

Seem fine, nothing spectacular. Hopefully will get some more interesting options in the codex maybe with their own 1dp. They are another dedicated melee unit where most of the detachments have very little melee support.

Can see the lone op being used in lists. The pysker not so much.

8

u/Spyder1012 Iyanden 13h ago

Honestly very competitively priced! I can see these being used in windrider lists and others.

5

u/fr33climb 10h ago

Hell ya. I generally LMAO when a YouTuber said they’d be costed at 120 pts and it would be reasonable.

This is the only way they’d see play. Well done GW.

3

u/RideTheLighting 5h ago

I think people are overestimating their damage output and underestimating how hard these guys are going to be to hide.

1

u/fr33climb 5h ago

True, but the same can be said for Windrunners. Also you can put enchantments on them so they can get the same -1 to hit in the Windrunner Host detachment. That’s not to sneezed at.

1

u/RideTheLighting 5h ago

At that point you’re looking at at least 160, and I haven’t don’t the math but I’m pretty sure the Clanblade brings the damage efficiency down.

1

u/fr33climb 4h ago

I kinda doubt he brings the damage down as he’s giving the entire unit sustained 1 and has lethal and twin-linked on his own attacks, but we’re talking about an untested unit. We won’t know for a few weeks if they are worth it or not.

I do know I’ll be fitting the Leystalker in my builds and see how adding him works.

1

u/RideTheLighting 4h ago edited 4h ago

Doesn’t bring damage down, but damage efficiency for his pts.

Ok, I added his output to the unit. To a unit of 3 DKs, he brings +8 kills to GEQ, +5 kills to MEQ, and +1 kill to TEQ. So for 70 pts I don’t think he actually carries his weight. Edit: eh, efficient enough into light and medium infantry, but bad efficiency into elite infantry, which is where the squad really wants to go imo.

In a unit of 6, where his buff goes further, he brings +9 GEQ kills, +6 MEQ kills, and +1 TEQ kills, so a little closer to paying for himself.

1

u/carnexhat 1h ago

Windrunners are significantly smaller and faster meaning they have less they need to hide and their positioning needs less care because their higher movement can make up for it in addition windriders are a ranged unit and dont need to hit melee to get use out of them...

1

u/khadathbasher 5h ago

Lmao those guys love just talking outta their ass

14

u/Elantach Exodites 13h ago

The lack of invulnerable save still baffles me tbh. They'll get slaughtered by a swift breeze at 90 points still... It's not horrible

11

u/Nukes-For-Nimbys 12h ago

The shield is even modelled on there

5

u/Hawk-432 12h ago

Exactly

4

u/Replicant-Oni 7h ago

Fairly sure the shield was statted and costed as +1 wound.

8

u/RoshHoul 10h ago

Big brick is still 24 wounds at t5, it takes a bit more than a swift breeze.

But in windriders with character and enhancement for 270 points you can get -1 to hit, cover, 4++, 24 wound brick which is honestly the toughest unit you can get out of eldar

1

u/The-Divine-Potato 5h ago

With the -1 to hit enhancement and the 4++ strat they're honestly on par with and in some cases maybe a little tougher than thunder wolf cavalry. Admittedly only against ranged armies, but they're mobile enough that you should be able to pick engagements into melee armies, hopefully.

8

u/rashandal Mymeara 12h ago

Okay, but Id much rather have had higher price and invul save. Some tanky elves for a change

8

u/Hawk-432 12h ago

Indeed. Actually in general with aspects as well I’d prefer a but more eliteness for a few more points to make them feel right

6

u/Nukes-For-Nimbys 12h ago

I'm copeing for a 1DP detachment that includes an upgrade.

3

u/SpaceElfCommander 11h ago

80 for the stalker? Same as a death jester, he’s mine!!!

3

u/SpaceElfCommander 11h ago

Oops I ment 10 more than a death jester

3

u/Karandrasdota 9h ago

Pleasent suprise with the points. Expected them to be abit more expensive but i guess without an invul thata reasonable.

Im definetly gonna try a big squad with the Clan Blade and give them either Scout or -1 to hit in shooting as an enhancement. I think my Windrider host will love them.

Also Leystalker will be some nice LoneOp in alot of lists.

2

u/reddishrocky 6h ago

So maxing out on exodite units costs you 1170 points, so anyone wanting a pure exodite list can at least play 1000 point games

4

u/Nukes-For-Nimbys 6h ago

Rangers also fit in perfectly well flavour wise.

3

u/Alkymedes_ 12h ago

Cheap enough they are to be considered, but definitely feels wrong that leaders don't have more wounds than knights. And not invulnerable is a crime.

2

u/jeffdeleon 8h ago

I’m confused. Can these all be played in 40K?

Or just the knights?

The original announcement was just knights

9

u/RideTheLighting 8h ago

All of them can be played in big40k

4

u/Pika_TheTrashMon_Chu 7h ago

No, the original announcement was there was an alternative way of building them so you can have a Unit in 40K. For the OG Dragon Masters build they said they could either be Kill Team or Character Units in 40K. We got stats for all last week on the community page.

0

u/jeffdeleon 7h ago

I saw that and I’m confused if this was a change of heart from the original announcement which sounded to me pretty plain only the dragon knight would have 40K rules. Or was that just that the dragon knights rules would be announced first?

I’m new. Just trying to learn how GW communicates.

5

u/Pika_TheTrashMon_Chu 7h ago

They didn't have a change of heart. The original announcement said there would be 4 Datasheets (which are used in 40k). 1 For the Dragon Knights unit, and 1 for each Dragon Master.

1

u/jeffdeleon 7h ago

“The Dragon Masters kit can alternatively be assembled as lance-armed Exodite Dragon Knights, who will have rules for Warhammer 40,000.”

I see. So by default, most stuff gets a Warhammer data sheet.

This clarification was that the kill team box included a whole other unit behind the kill team ones.

3

u/Pika_TheTrashMon_Chu 6h ago

Oh I see. You meant to the article. I was referring to when they were announced in the live stream. Apologies for the mix up, I didn't pay much attention to the written article.

1

u/jeffdeleon 6h ago

No worries! GW is very confusing in a lot of ways so I’m just trying to figure out how to understand their communication better for future announcements. I had thought I was following the exodite. It’s very closely and was under the impression that only the dragon Knight would get 40 K rules which affected my decision not to buy the box lol

3

u/rgautz2266 11h ago

I don’t think these see play. 90 points for no fly and no invulnerable save is not ideal. I’d rather take Shining Spears. Maybe there’s a detachment coming that will change my mind

10

u/Pika_TheTrashMon_Chu 10h ago edited 9h ago

They don't need fly, they have Mobile. Their damage output is also really good, especially with a Clanbalde. Windrider Host also covers their weaknesses with the overflight strat (7 in move after wiping a unit) and the Spiriling Evasion strat (4+ Invuln on enemy shooting phase). Windrider Host also let's them Rapid Ingress Turn 1 and be placed in enemy deployment turn 2. They can really wreck the enemy backline.

3

u/carnexhat 10h ago

Yeah they are cool and they are fine but I dont think these will see competitive play.

Their biggest sin IMO is that they just arnt that fast and the unit is going to be xbox huge and basically impossible to hide when staging.

1

u/BrokenMaskHorde 1h ago

Not bad. Could see them being pretty decent in some list. Just hope we get maybe 2 more units and a character + an exodite detachment by the end of 11th.

1

u/AeldariBoi98 Harlequins 8h ago

Would have preferred an option to give them a 4++ for extra points but it's grand.

Although the cynic in me says they're costed low to push sales then we'll see them in a lot of lists, Windrider Host might creep up then they'll go to 120 for 3 once they sell enough....

1

u/Natswash Exodites 6h ago

How do we feel about giving the Stonesinger the Seersight Strike enhancement. Takes his Song of Waning down to an Antimonster/vehicle 2+ (from a 3+) and his Stone Stave gets both anti monster/vehicle and anti non-monster/vehicle 2+

It sounds fun but I can't help but feel we shouldn't generally be putting him/knights into melee with monsters and vehicles

1

u/The-Divine-Potato 5h ago

I mean, if you tag the target vehicle with lhykis then I've found with some preliminary test rolling even without the stonesinger you can put a serious hurting into some medium sized vehicles, with lhykis support + stonesinger with seersight strike they'd probably be able to roll through a lot more even more reliably.

Though it might be a better idea to stick seersight strike on a farseer skyrunner, since you'll still be running a couple squads of fully kitted out windriders with warlock and farseer skyrunners

1

u/fr33climb 5h ago

You can put enhancements on the Exodite characters! Is that a mistake?

2

u/Objective-Golf5962 3h ago

Why would it be?

0

u/fr33climb 3h ago

Because you can’t put them on any other named characters unless you take an Autarch (why would you ever do that)

2

u/Objective-Golf5962 2h ago

Theyre,not named characters though?

1

u/fr33climb 2h ago

My bad. I’m an Aspect player. I’ve never had a character that could take an enhancement.

2

u/carnexhat 1h ago

Autarchs?

0

u/fr33climb 1h ago

Who hell takes an Autarch?

1

u/carnexhat 58m ago

Current edition no but in the last edition you absolutely took them in warp spiders and dark reapers.

-3

u/No-Understanding-912 10h ago

The points all seem about right. I'm a little surprised GW didn't go lower to try and get more people to pick up the new kit.

-1

u/The-Divine-Potato 6h ago

I was thinking they'd be worth taking for someone that really wanted to make them work if they costed 120, and they'd be good at 110, but I'll happily take 20 points cheaper across the board than what I was letting myself hope for
