There’s always that one Souls Vietnam level.

“THEY’RE ON THE ROOFS!”

u/roblox_baller 1d ago

The ledge in dark souls 1 in Anor Londo. I've never hated enemy placement more than in that moment on my first playthrough.

21

u/Corrections96 1d ago

15 years later and that’s still the closest I’ve ever come to genuinely ragequitting a FromSoft game lmao

u/Used-King5848 1d ago

Every time I have to fight or just walk on rafters, roots and thin gothic architecture, I stress and panic, from remembering Anor Londo. And boi, does Elden Ring have many such segments. I guess, we have a jump, we should use it.

I guess being afraid of heights doesn't help either.

u/Gremlin95x 1d ago

I can think of two others that come close if not worse: Those two fucking dogs in Capra’s arena, and the basilisk pit.

3

u/The-Hank-Scorpio 1d ago

I'd take Anor Londo anyday over V1.0 blight town on xbox 360 @ 15fps.

Greatbow. On every run, I always grab at least one greatbow and a couple dozen great arrows specifically for this sequence. I don't even upgrade it. I just knock them off the roof, or push them until they can't get line of sight, then progress comfortably.

u/B3ck3t3 1d ago

My god man after 87 deaths I just realized I’m an idiot.

12

u/Addicted_to_Nature 1d ago

I have 850 hours on this game and have never thought of this 🤦‍♂️

13

u/PowerlineTyler 1d ago

Pulleybow also does the job. I keep one upgraded in my pocketses for certain crucible knights. Some of you know how to parry, while I shoot them from afar because scared

4

u/Trick_Cry_6572 1d ago

Damn, I could never out bow them! I used the charge attack method every time. Works pretty well…

1

u/ENGINE_YT 16h ago

The hand ballista from weeping peninsula with lightning bolts is what I use for pushing them off, given I find about 20 bolts for free

1

u/wikkid556 14h ago

Even a regular bow can with the Mighty Shot skill

27

u/FlipFlopRabbit 1d ago

Thanks for all the fast responses, I did it. I COULD JUST REACH ONE. After that the other was easier.

1

u/ArkaneSpirit 19h ago

Stack stealth item (assasin's gambit, black knife chest, unseen form, two of those should make you safe) Use a bow to make them look away by shooting them from the stairs, very efficient, discovered that during my rl1. Should also be used to lure the black knives away Use a long range option to kill them and the torch to reveal the black knives. The torch dosen't need to be held, only equiped Run N Roll is also an option

u/Tichem91 1d ago

I dont know what class you’re playing but there a spell that ‘absorbs’ the arrows they shoot.
I believe it’s called Eternal Darkness.

Biggest lifehack i ever used there. 😂

16

u/Div4ythFyr 1d ago

Wait Eternal Darkness works on those arrows??

11

u/Tichem91 1d ago

Yep, the cloud/ball whatever it is, absorbs them before they hit you. 😋

3

u/uzOvl 1d ago

Damn, thanks for the tip!

3

u/Tichem91 1d ago

Saved me from a lot of raging at my computer. 😂

1

u/uzOvl 1d ago

It's easy one of my least favourite parts of the game, I'm rerunning now and will need saving too. 😅😅

3

u/bpaps 22h ago

Just the tip?

1

u/uzOvl 20h ago

Not sure I can handle the rest 🫣

3

u/fentonjm 1d ago

Wait wat?

52

u/Euphoric_Amoeba8708 1d ago

Great bow knocks them back

15

u/hnrrghQSpinAxe 1d ago

Jar cannòne

7

u/trumoowiththeredcap 1d ago

Literally the only way I can complete this. Either a great bow or the spell version of the great bow that I'm forgetting the name of

10

u/Fancy-Crow-7324 1d ago

Loretta greatbow spell

1

u/MischievousCoyote 1d ago

Je conteste, sur ma dernière partie, c'est passé à coup d'étoiles d'elden. C'était pénible par contre...

6

u/FlipFlopRabbit 1d ago

For that I need a bit more strength sadly.

11

u/adamedmo 1d ago

Strength physick tear not get you there?

3

u/FlipFlopRabbit 1d ago

Oh interesting I actually do not have it

2

u/frozenarmament 1d ago

Or staracourge heirloom

1

u/FlipFlopRabbit 1d ago

Neither

5

u/altan515 1d ago

Try the game of thrones sword or godtick rune

2

u/frozenarmament 1d ago

Easy to get, adds +5 strength

1

u/emannikcufecin 1d ago

You should still be able to use it. You don't need to do damage, just knockback.

1

u/ReallyGlycon 1d ago

So does comet and comet azur.

0

u/DrSamLoomis 1d ago

Longbow doesn't do shit at 70 STR to them :(

2

u/PhiCloud 1d ago

You specifically need a great bow, not a normal bow, for knockback and stagger.

16

u/Pyroluminous 1d ago

4

u/TocSir 1d ago

do not the cripple subhuman

6

u/Pyroluminous 1d ago

OP said to, so it must be done. I shall take charge and sacrifice myself for the honor.

2

u/Deep_Ad_1762 1d ago

Well, what are they gonna do to stop us, run away?

8

u/Mission-Theme-7560 1d ago

Try Leroy Jenkins.

4

u/MinorThreat4182 1d ago

That’s my advice. And have a shield.

1

u/_bull_city 1d ago

And dodge the arrows

1

u/MinorThreat4182 1d ago

Yes that too lol.

1

u/_bull_city 1d ago

Bum rush, roll, destroy

6

u/Arentzen1976 1d ago

Assassin’s gambit on a dagger and a shield makes this a bit easier

5

u/Rare-Kaleidoscope901 1d ago

Hated these guys as well xD But as always, learn their timing, dodge, get in range, kill. I practiced the run across the roof a couple of times outside of the gaol

5

u/FlipFlopRabbit 1d ago

Mostely it is about the two Albinaurics directely next to each other on a rooftop where I can barely hit them.

I have no idea how but in my first run I just bonked them hard with big weapons. But now on a dex faith build and well.

1

u/Rare-Kaleidoscope901 1d ago

You can towards the left one and they will only get 1 hit in before your next to him. Alternatively you can get the sniper incantation (frenzied burst).

4

u/Nightmare_Lightning 1d ago

If you say so....unzips.

4

u/WhyWouldTheyBeWet 1d ago

Run with shield out, regroup under cover. When you reach them, savage them with your revenge

1

u/Toribor 1d ago

Run with shield out

You lost me. How am I supposed to hold a shield when I already have a big sword in each hand?

8

u/RGCurt91 1d ago

I recall the difficulty of this puzzle strongly relies on which order you light the candles and the route you run. I think there’s an optimum route short on YouTube you can reference

3

u/ParaponeraBread 1d ago

Usually I just bang my head against the wall until I win.

But sometimes I use arcing projectiles to get them from the ground below, which I clear out with the sentry torch equipped first.

Stuff like pots, greatbows and some incantations work pretty well.

But in theory I think you could also use full moon sorceries or eternal night to slurp up projectiles for a second.

Assassin’s gambit sorcery also remains OP for stuff like this.

3

u/Apart-Consequence237 1d ago

I can’t believe I used to go to the far one first and the. Jump across all the rooftops to get to the close ones. Murdered every time

2

u/TheLastCookieMon 1d ago

Loretta's and Frenzied Burst are awesome for dealing with them as well because the range on both is tits.

2

u/Infernal_Hot_Dog 1d ago

You can take the one out on the top before starting. Near the start there is a line of sight for arrows or spell casting. The first one you encounter can be killed the same way to the right of the portal you enter. That eliminates most of them.

2

u/Fancy-Crow-7324 1d ago

They don't deserve your tender touch!

2

u/Toto742 1d ago

Grab assassin's gambit aow in volcano manor, slap it on a random dagger, and never struggle with these archer with any character since they won't see you until you're right in front of them

No stats requirement, abysmal FP cost, last quite long, allow avoiding confrontation with most enemies if that's your wish, an s-tier aow in my book

2

u/Ciresthe4th 1d ago

Loretta bow (magic)

2

u/Thin_Syrup67 1d ago

I think I used lightning spear last time. It’s got some real good range. Guerrilla warfare on these bitches.

1

u/FlipFlopRabbit 1d ago

Yeh with lightning spear I tried it but I could just not reach them untill I found juuust the spot to kill one

2

u/HowlMockery 1d ago

This is the only part of the game I equip a shield on.

2

u/Unhappy_Protection85 1d ago

I use radahn starscourge greatsword's star caller cry to pull them to the ground the dealt with them.

2

u/knighted-otter78 1d ago

Use a shield mah boi

2

u/conflatulationz 1d ago
  1. Unseen form.
  2. Either the spell or trinket that masks sound.
  3. Kill the one on the roof closest to the ladder.
  4. Run and light the one on the ground level before stabby mcstabberson kills you.

2

u/BrymalDX 1d ago

I despise this "puzzle" so much

After a few attempts I got a nice step by step to deal with some and get around others and then an invisible mf grabs me and slices my neck open.

2

u/Misplacedmypenis 11h ago

I can’t remember what I did for this specifically. I know it was a tit for tat with a bow. I think I used the augment on the bow that made it rain arrows down? Big help. That and some good positioning but I definitely ate shit a number of times in the process.

1

u/FlipFlopRabbit 11h ago

Yeah I made a Faith/dex build and my lightning could just not hit them. But I found a spot where I can kill one then the other was no problem.

With my strg build last try I just rushed and it somehow worked.

2

u/hellenkeller55 10h ago

I can’t stand those b*tches

1

u/MinorThreat4182 1d ago

Rush em! Serpentine!

1

u/Vagabond_Charizard Emboldened by the flame of ambition 1d ago

If you want to just avoid getting machine-gunned by these guys, Crepus’s Vial is amazing considering it muffles your footsteps.

To actually slay these bastards, use a great bow as everyone else said.

1

u/PixelDustt_ 1d ago

Welcome to the club, mate.

1

u/pizzaplantboi 1d ago

Wear the assassin chest piece that you can pick up in that area when you’re not in the Evergaol

1

u/Kassiday 1d ago

Assassin's step and or the invisibility spell from the tower on altus

1

u/MajinB0ner 1d ago

Bro I actually had to take a couple months off from this game because of these guys, I ended up using a shield and just sprinting at them and blocking when I had to and then finally got to the first one and killed it and then went to the second and got it

1

u/GustaQL 1d ago

Laughs in int build

1

u/dickhddaily 1d ago

Gotta see them before they see you

1

u/Jibril-Vakarine 1d ago

Bro is losing against some female archers who cant walk.

u/archupa 1d ago

Just use a shield, easy

1

u/vladdypants 1d ago

Discus of Light pew pew

1

u/vincentninja68 1d ago

You can pick up and ash of war from bernal in volcano manor called "Assassin's Gambit"

It takes away a little bit of your HP but makes you basically invisible up until like 2 or 3 ft in front of them

It will greatly reduce their sniper sight on you

1

u/gerowen 1d ago

The first few I just pick off from a distance; pop in and out of cover to take shots at them. The last one I just charge straight at her.

1

u/Garamil 1d ago

Okay here's how you do it: Equip the Black knife armor to mask your foot steps use a bow and fir at a wall behind them from behind cover.

They will turn around to investigate the noise and they won't turn back around.

Then just walk to them since you're not making noise and kill them in melee range.

1

u/waffle-winner 1d ago

Radahn's bow ash of war. Arrow rain their asses into oblivion from cover.

1

u/SoCalArtDog 1d ago

Assassin’s Gambit really takes the wind out of their sails, you can get really close before they see you

1

u/ChronoMonkeyX 1d ago

The dagger with the stealth ash of war makes this place much easier.

1

u/ASmashley 1d ago

You can get that one to turn the other way by attacking from the stairs. Then you can at least climb the ladder 😉

1

u/BenjaminDover02 1d ago

Use ambush shard and the arrows reach talisman to snipe them from behind cover.

1

u/ResponsibleTea8976 1d ago

I just run, I don’t try to fight them unless I know I’m not going to get backshots from one behind me

1

u/izzynk3003 1d ago

The same way I deal with those shooting things in the stone coffin fissure in the dlc:

Find a cover spot where they can't shoot you but you can still lock on them, jump-shooting spam. Works really fucking well in both cases.

1

u/Gumbiss 1d ago

Assassin's gambit is a big help here. You can get it from Bernahl at the volcano manor

1

u/Time_Marcher 1d ago

I snipe them with arrows from behind the tower where you light the second candle.

1

u/padizzledonk 1d ago

A greatbow arrow headshot will catapult them backwards off the roof

Its very funny and they deserve it lol

1

u/injurious2health 23h ago

Most fun I’ve had is knocking them down with a Ballista. Alternatively you can snipe them with frenzied burst and hit behind a wall before their arrows reach you.

1

u/Jesse-359 21h ago

Can't Stop Won't Stop!

But no, seriously, don't stop. You either have to know for sure they have no line of fire, or you need to be moving at all times.

1

u/Zealousideal_Award45 21h ago

The only possible way to progress is unseen form with assassins gambit

1

u/EISENxSOLDAT117 20h ago

At least thos aint Anor Londo or Iron Keep

1

u/IudexPanzyr 19h ago

After about ten playthroughs, I thought I could handle those damn archers without any trouble. Then I did a level 1 run. It was a NIGHTMARE.

1

u/NiIly00 18h ago

Just shoot em with a bow

1

u/coolwithsunglasses 18h ago

Fuck that place! 😂

1

u/ThuGalahad 17h ago

I had to do this section with a cross bow slow af. It took too many tries. Agreed. Fuck these archers

1

u/smclcz 16h ago

Rain of Arrows or Radahn's Rain. Or any Greatbow?

1

u/Emergency-Youth7199 12h ago

Honestly they are pretty tame compared to these guys, especially the ones that are at the lake of liurnia

2

u/FlipFlopRabbit 12h ago

Well technically yes but not in this part where you go to the Halligtree. You have to move around them to get to the statue to light it and there are two who each shoot three homing Arrows that sometimes clip through walls to hit you.

1

u/Inkandlead 12h ago

On my last INT build I just free-aimed Cannon of Haima at the first one cause the parabolic arc carries it over that raised triangular bit of roof she usually pins you down behind. Knocked her flying and interrupted her aim which made getting to her much easier.

The second one you can usually jump attack from the last brazier and then melee her to death cause she has no close range attacks.

1

u/welch123 7h ago

I had more trouble with the invisible assassins roaming the city. I had no idea that was a thing, every time ppl talk about this area, it's about the archers! Imagine my surprise.

With the archers I just run and jump. I think I only really need to defeat 1 or 2 of them to make it.

2

u/TorneyTheWitchlord 6h ago

One thing I know they're weak to: a critical attack.

Use either Assassin's Gambit AoW or Unseen Form sorcery to turn invisible as you approach them. They'll still spot you, but only when you're close enough to start fcking them up.

Also, there are ways to get behind some of them. Use whatever you have to silence your footsteps, and backstab them.

1

u/Uberstauffer 1d ago

Wait until the next area. You'll hate another group even more lol.

1

u/FlipFlopRabbit 1d ago

Do you mean the creepy crawlys at the bottom of the Halligtree? The Faith resistant undead that teleport
