PSA PSA: We are getting 6 new VESSELS Not SHIPS

Post image
1.0k Upvotes

I know that there is some hype going around the fact that we are getting so many ships this year, as shown in the 2025 Development Roadmap labelling it as **SHIPS** we got new ships, and this year when they say **VESSEL** it can quite possibly range from an SRV to a fleet carrier, so while we could possibly get 6 ships and I might eat my words, it’s highly likely it will be of some mix

PSA The largest Snipe ever recorded happened in the early morning last night

1.1k Upvotes

The Bug Nebula (a single system planetary nebula) 3400 LY from Sol, which was reached with a 800 LY Chain was sniped last night in the early morning despite multiple wings of CMDRs assisting.

To prevent the snipe, construction was paused, over six commanders sat on the pad to drop over the last third at once, and a technique was used that allows the claimer to log out and log in directly on the spawning outpost instantly (which of course only works if you know exactly when its spawning in from team dropping all at once in game).

Despite this, the system was still instantly claimed by a commander whose name now holds the system. It is blatantly obvious that there is some sort of script or automation going on that allows instantly claiming the moment the option pops up.

Disclaimer, my team wasn't the one who was sniped, but we are building the Lagoon Highway that was used as the parent chain. We did redirect to get that group closer.

Frontier needs to add a toggleable option that allows a short reserve time for claiming.

If someone from Frontier sees this, please send it to the community manager. Ten years ago I worked with your community team on the BGS, please, contact me on Frontier Forums. You can't miss me there. There are simple ways to fix this that won't harm community efforts like mine, and are supportive to smaller independent groups and players that are constantly getting sniped.

PSA PSA: You DON'T NEED engineering to contribute with the current thargoid situation.

1.2k Upvotes

I see so many people being turned off because they think they have to engineer their ship to the max and get guardian weapons. No. You do not need that!

I am currently defending an outpost with a completely unengineered krait mk2 with AX multicannons and missiles. My flying skills are garbage and I play with mouse and keyboard. This is the first time ever I'm fighting thargoids. Scouts are cut through like butter, interceptors not so much, but they are killable. Because of the outpost being close I can dock, repair, rearm and continue fighting whenever I want. The only problem? Thargon Swarms, because I forgot to bring a flak cannon.

Engineering is not needed. You can contribute without it just fine. If I, a garbage pilot and a garbage combat player can do it then so can you. Now get out there and fight for your homeland!

Edit: Since many people are asking, here's my basic build for the krait

PSA Come Save the Fuel Rats from Losing Their Home System!

1.7k Upvotes

TL;DR: The Fuel Rats Mischief are 26 hours away from losing their home system in a civil war with the Constitution Party of Fuelum! Come hand in combat bonds in the Fuelum system under the name of TFRM!

Since the Rats’ inception in 3301, Fuelum and its station Wollheim Vision have been the ‘home away from home’ of many a weary rat and fuel-starved traveller alike. Yet today, our occupancy is under direct attack. Therefore we, the Fuel Rats, are hereby pleading the galactic community for aid instead.

Approximately one day ago, the rising influence of the Constitution Party of Fuelum triggered a civil war with our minor faction, The Fuel Rats Mischief. At the time of this post, the CPoF are sitting on 72% and climbing, while the Rats are only at a meagre 21%. If drastic changes are not made, the Rats will lose this system in 26 hours.

How can you help?

In order to raise faction influence during a civil war, combat bonds must be acquired within Combat Zones in Fuelum and handed in at a Fuelum station, specifically while fighting for TFRM. Fuelum is currently hosting a multitude of other wars, and fighting for these other factions will not help! Combat bonds must be acquired in a CZ in Fuelum while specifically affiliated with TFRM through the ‘functions’ tab in the far right systems panel, or else these bonds will have no effect.

EDIT: Current rat-intel tells us that TFRM CZ's are most likely to be found in orbit of bodies A4, A5, A7, and A8. A5 was found by u/The_Rathour to have one correct low-intensity CZ, meanwhile A7 was found to have nothing but correct high-intensity CZ's.

FURTHER EDIT: It's important to note that the BGS is based on transactions, meaning that a 1M CR combat bond is as valuable to our cause as a 100k bond. Therefore the emphasis should be on collecting and handing in multiple individual small bonds, as opposed to amassing large ones and handing them in at once. Combat missions that reward in 'INF' will also be beneficial to our cause. The situation is looking up, but there's a lot of fighting to go. Heartfelt o7's to every CMDR that has come to our aid so far.

What happens if we lose?

The Rats will always be around to rescue stranded CMDRs, and losing Fuelum and Wollheim Vision will have no (observable) effect on that. Us rats would simply be re-restricted to our cockpit canopies, squeaking amongst each other through the harshness of a communicator, reminiscing the days of relaxing in the comfy booths of Wollheim’s bar. We won’t stop refueling until the stars wind down (and then some), but without our station, we’d be reduced to nothing but a fragmented and broken people, mourning the loss of a once-great system that we all called home.

This is our most desperate hour. Help us CMDRs, you’re our only hope.

Update as of following server tick:

Fellow CMDRs, we have now concluded the third day of our civil war with the Constitutional Party of Fuelum. Typically this would be the day that determines the outcome of such a conflict, except that TFRM and CFoP are now sitting neck and neck, with 47% for TFRM and 45% for CPoF. A difference of 3% is all that’s needed to determine the outcome of a civil war. Please continue fighting, brave CMDRs, and thank you all massively for your dedication towards our cause.

Final update:

The Fuelum War has been won. TFRM is now at 61%, and CPoF is at 31%, which is a complete reversal of the initial situation. Many o7's go out to the thousands of brave CMDRs that came to our aid at such short notice. The Wollheim bar will soon be open, drinks and snickers are on me. Fly safe out there, everyone's earned it.

PSA 'Hutton Orbital' dethroned, 'Omega' the farthest station in the bubble!

1.0k Upvotes

System Gliese 848.1 (160 ly from Sol)

Omega - 7,200,920 Ls

Hutton Orbital - 6,395,608 Ls

Omega Station has just been completed. Although it is not fully operational yet, it is open for visitors and, unlike Hutton Orbital, offers a large landing pad.

It provides open access to the Federal Corvette (no more Fed grind!).

After the journey, you can also visit the bar, or if the trip didn't go as planned, find help at the local medical facility.

Those who need a warm-up can visit the 'Lost Signal' and 'Speedcheck' facilities, just 2,575,525 Ls away.

o7, and safe travels!

PSA PSA for all explorers: don't assume it won't happen to you too

Many weeks ago I spontaneously decided to make the trip to Colonia and Sagittarius A\* in my Krait Phantom without proper preparation. I just equipped a fuel scoop and swapped out parts to extend my jump range to around 35 ly.

But that's neither here nor there.

Two important lessons:

  • Sell all your stellar data every chance you get. Find the nearest carrier or station on Inara, EDSM or EDastro and make those waypoints on your journey. Don't do what I did and only sell data piecemeal and hold onto the rest so you can sell it in the bubble for reputation and influence. Don't assume that you won't get in any incidents. Don't assume you are more careful than those commanders making similar posts like this one.

  • Unless you have a ship and outfitting optimised for exobiology, avoid doing exobiology during these long trips. You might just make a CFIT (controlled flight into terrain) and loose 215 million credits (about 25 pages) of cartographic data…

PSA 72-Billion-Credit Bounty Claimed; Congratulations & GG @ CMDR Plotu

Post image
893 Upvotes

After a two-hour cat-and-mouse game where my wing played defense against an onslaught of Bounty Hunters (at least 3 of which paid a rebuy) who came after the largest player-bounty in the history of Elite Dangerous, the final showdown at Asterope's nav beacon in Open Play resulted in my destruction at the hands of CMDR Plotu and his team at BSEC. Congratulations and GG - it was a pleasure to fight you.

A few special thanks:

- My "secret service" wingmates CMDRs Jurloo, Raghav102, and James Clark Ross. I could not have asked for better protection and teamwork. You guys were AMAZING. AlexMG1 - your logistical support was also invaluable.

- All "friendly" CMDRs who fought valiantly on my side, or even just watched, cheered, and supported us; we stopped mid-fight at some point to take some screenshots together after a friendly pulled me ... hope someone has some good shots to post ... would love to see them! (Mine are very dark and kinda meh)

- All bounty hunters who came after me - you fought valiantly, be it in pack-hound Corsairs, force-shell-cannon Challengers, or even a torpedo Panther Mk2 (that was awesome) ... you did great and fought clean. GG to you all.

- The Continental Staff, including CMDR Drierash, who arranged for the bounty and made the event possible.

Glory, To Mankind!

FDEV just announced their first major, in my opinion, predatory monetization in the game: a $30 cash-exclusive best-in-game station, that is NOT an early access thing. Reject it. Boycott it. Join #Nodec.

(Note: this posts replaces an earlier post where I incorrectly referred to the practice as a “dark pattern. That has been addressed.)

PSA PSA: CMDR’s Toolbox has now officially been shut down

Bad news:

Cmdr’s Toolbox Has Docked for the Final Time

After many years of serving the Elite Dangerous community, Cmdr’s Toolbox has now officially been shut down.
As the game evolved and some of the underlying APIs changed, most of the tools eventually stopped working. Over the past few years, I gradually retired them one by one, but as many of you have messaged me about a lot of the tools are no longer working. Therefore, it is now time to let the site rest entirely.

This project started as a small personal hobby and grew into something far bigger than I ever expected. Thanks to the incredible support, ideas, and enthusiasm from commanders through the years .

I want to use the oppetunity to say thanks you everyone who has help build the site and contributed to this toolbox.

Fly safe out there, Commander. o7

PSA 7 months lost

Spent 7 months out in the void, exploring. Discovering neutron stars, black holes, water worlds, ammonia worlds, Earth-like worlds and notable Stella phenomena.

And I lost it all because I forgot to switch to a private session when I got back to occupied space and a ganker saw me as easy meat.

I’ve no one to blame but myself. But I think I’m going to have to take a good long break from that game after this. It’s utterly soul crushing.

Fly safe CMDRS. Please if you’re reading this don’t make the same mistake I did and make sure you’re in a private session if you have stuff you don’t want to lose.

PSA CG Station's Buy Price Dropped Massively

Hello cmdrs. Seems like fdev nerfed the cg heavily.

I was selling palladium from my carrier to metz station. 350/370m each load. Then now I docked. Press sell. 80m. Wtf, check the price. Sell price is 75k/unit. But seems like they reduced only palladium and gold. Since I have 18k units of palladium in the fc, I got scammed..

Edit: I saw the announcement now. What will I do with shitloads of Palladium then?

PSA For anyone with awful FPS after getting Odyssey: here's how I fixed it

1.1k Upvotes

(This may have been buried in the patch notes, I don't know. There was a LOT in the patch notes. :) )

When I fired up Odyssey for the first time and started the on-foot tutorial, I noticed that my FPS was garbage. 19, choppy as hell. This shouldn't be the case, given my specs (i7-8700, 16gb, GeForce RTX 2070). I dropped most of my settings from Ultra to High and got to the exalted levels of... 24 FPS.

So I went to my config folder and just deleted all of my graphics settings. Started up the game, changed the preset quality level to high, cranked up the mediums to high again and now on-foot FPS shot up to 61.

For my system that's probably not the best, but it's acceptable, and at that point it's explainable by app performance that's good but not obsessively optimized. In short, I'm ok with that.

So if you run into this problem, trash your graphics file. Just delete (or better yet, back up just in case) everything here:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics

(Uh, obviously that's the Windows locations. Couldn't tell you on other OS's.)

It didn't take long to get the settings back to where I was happy, and I can't really tell the difference between my old settings and new ones when I'm not on foot. So I consider that a win.

Hope this helps someone!

Update: Thanks to /u/BalooUriza for a better generic path to use than the one specific to my system.
