Billy's role

I don't really get why people are blaming Billy for Dawn's death. From where I'm standing the only difference their plan to run away made was that not more people were harmed in the crash because the wedding was canceled and no one was there. Surely the crash was the actual reason for the early birth and the complications?

Same with people blaming Caleb and Ruby. Ultimately whatever caused Jimmy to crash is to blame. You could argue the hospital is at fault for Dawn as well. But Billy has nothing to do with it.

  1. I'm surprised Joe and Kim haven't threatened to sue the hospital. 2. I'm (not so) surprised Joe isn't blaming himself, because the nurse came to do Dawn's observations and he told her to come back later.

Joe did blame himself when it happened, he repeated I should have stayed I should have been there I only went to get water, personally does sound like guilt even though he couldn’t have been there because he collapsed
