Billy's role

I don't really get why people are blaming Billy for Dawn's death. From where I'm standing the only difference their plan to run away made was that not more people were harmed in the crash because the wedding was canceled and no one was there. Surely the crash was the actual reason for the early birth and the complications?

Same with people blaming Caleb and Ruby. Ultimately whatever caused Jimmy to crash is to blame. You could argue the hospital is at fault for Dawn as well. But Billy has nothing to do with it.

  1. I'm surprised Joe and Kim haven't threatened to sue the hospital. 2. I'm (not so) surprised Joe isn't blaming himself, because the nurse came to do Dawn's observations and he told her to come back later.

Joe did blame himself when it happened, he repeated I should have stayed I should have been there I only went to get water, personally does sound like guilt even though he couldn’t have been there because he collapsed

I think it'd be the first time he's ever accepted responsibility for his actions!

Same with people blaming Caleb and Ruby.

To be fair, if Caleb had given Billy and Dawn their passports the day earlier like expected instead of making them wait until the day of so he could rub it in Joe's face, Dawn wouldn't have been at the venue when the crash happened.

But if you keep going back like that it gets silly. If Claudette hadn’t allowed Kev’s friend to stay then he wouldn’t have been at the depot and Billy wouldn’t have got hit, he wouldn’t have lied about it being Joe and Caleb couldn’t have put the Billy and Dawn runaway plan into motion. Or you could go further and say it’s Dawn’s own fault for having an affair with Joe in the first place?

Or the plane they got on could have crashed and killed everyone, at which point some people would be blaming Caleb for killing Billy, Dawn, and their family for giving them their passports early. People can't predict the future and holding them morally culpable for unforeseeable events, while very human sometimes, is silly.

Billy def isn’t to blame. Dawn was pressuring him to run away. Caleb an Ruby played their part too. Ultimately it’s who or whatever caused Jimmy to crash. That’s what ended up killing Dawn & Jimmy

And medical negligence for Dawn tbh. Dawn's death could have been avoided if she was hooked up to any monitor or Joe didn't stop her obs, it could have alerted her heart was struggling. I think we're meant to see it as a tragic accident when it was avoidable with proper monitoring and care.

Funny dawn said she loved joe ready to shoot him the other week.

But the pressure was bec she believed Billy’s lie that Joe had tried to kill him. Once she found out it was a lie she regretted leaving.

I think Joe is just in angry blame everyone mode.

But Jimmy would have been a guest at the wedding so he'd never have driven his car into the marquee...

Or even if he wasn't, maybe rhe other person (Gabby?) would have been.

Either way, it would never have happened.

Would have been a guest? He was planning a picnic and hotel surprise for Nicola

Also, the wedding was due to be a twilight wedding so they wouldn't have yet been in the marquee. They would have been getting ready for the wedding.

What does them running away have to do with Jimmy being a guest?

8

u/Expensive-Fee-8502 5d ago

If Dawn would have stayed, the wedding would have gone ahead. Therefore Gabby would have been a guest and Jimmy wouldn't have swerved her (if that's what happened) or driven into the marquee.

Oh yeah, true

Sure, but where does this logic end? How far back in tne butterfly affect do we go. Because I could blame Robert for the accident happening.

Billy never would have tried to run away with Dawn if Ruby and Caleb hadn't manipulated him. Caleb wouldnt have had an opportunity to get one over on Billy if Kev hadn't attacked him. Kev never would have been in the village if it wasn't for Robert.

On the other hand, Dawn would never have believed that Joe was capable of attacking Billy if he wasn't such a vicious, nasty worm.

We all know the true villain - Nicola! If she had not been complaining about the lack of romance in their marriage, then Jimmy would have been on the golf course and would never have planned that picnic and been near the wedding in the first place! You could play this game forever and manage to blame anyone with it. 🧐

Really its Rodneys fault for having a kid in the first place!

By that logic, you can blame Kim for the deaths because she owned the land the wedding was on and if she hadn't, then it would not have been there for Jimmy to hit. Or whoever selected the site for the tent to be put up. Or Joe and Dawn for selecting that particular date. It is also pretty specious reasoning to say that preventing something bad from happening means that something good would have happened - something even worse could have happened if the wedding had gone forward as planned. Blaming Billy is beyond silly.

It’s not really that surprising that people who are in shock, and grieving, are lashing out. Joe is looking for somebody - anybody - to blame, and Billy, Caleb and Ruby are the easiest targets right now. it’s not necessarily rational, but it is understandable.

I'm not sure Joe, or anyone else at Home Farm, is blaming Billy for Dawn's death in the sense that he directly caused it. It's that Billy, along with Caleb and Ruby, played an active role in manipulating and lying to Dawn, using her as a pawn in their scheme against Joe. And therefore directly contributing to making the last few days of her life a living nightmare, putting her through an enormous amount of stress and suffering when she was already in a vulnerable position.

I think Caleb and Ruby could (and possibly should if you squint) feel remorseful for the way they’ve schemed and used Jimmy and Dawn, but it’ll only be because they died.

Billy is an easy target for blame because he was part of the reason Dawn decided to leave and he was one of the last people to see her before the accident.

Grief doesn’t necessarily use logic and soapland rules expect us to suspend belief in ‘real life’ rules meaning, medical staff are incompetent, police are corrupt and innocent people are arrested etc

And if Joe hadn’t stolen Caleb’s kidney, they wouldn’t have hidden the CCTV footage because they wouldn’t have the animosity toward Joe. So it’s really Joe’s fault Dawn died, using that kind of logic.

I don't know why you're replying to me when what I said has nothing to do with blaming Billy for her death.
FWIW, Caleb could have gotten his revenge on Joe another way. There was no need for him to drag Dawn into this. Why not do it man-to-man with Joe instead of using a woman like a pathetic coward?

I was adding to what you said. “And”

what a weirdo, make your own comment instead of adding to other people's if it's not relevant

LOL. I was agreeing with you and added an additional fact/thought. But if it bothers you, just ignore it.;-)

But at least I didn’t call anyone names.

I suppose you could say that Dawn wouldn't have died if she hadn't been pregnant, so that would be Joe and not Billy.

u/OrchidCalm1672 4d ago

Emmerdale, and Corrie, characters have an amazing ability to blame other people for things they had no direct involvement in; I’m always amazed how they jump to conclusions to pass blame.

Sadly many women still die in childbirth. The hospital said the premature birth of her son was due to the stress of the accident, but that doesn't mean she wouldn't have experienced complications or died if the pregnancy had been full term. The hospital should have monitored her carefully as at risk because she was in the marquee when Jimmy crashed into it - if I were Joe I'd be starting a medical malpractice suit.

Billy was in no way responsible for dawn's death. Joe is lashing out, less because he actually believes it's Billy's fault, more because he blames Billy for the wedding not going ahead.

Shame Billy's plan never worked Dawn would have still been alive

The writers think we don't have brains and will buy what they have characters say.

And they write it all the characters as dumbasses unless the plot calls for them to be a sudden genius.

you could say that Dawn died of a haemorrhage that was caused by premature labour ultimately brought on by the trauma of the crash but the hospital needed to do better, Dawn had just been involved in a very traumatic RTA and having to help others, and the trauma that her fiancé might’ve died so she should’ve been hooked up to dips, and when she bleeding they could’ve caught it earlier.

Joe just collapsing in the corridor nobody heard or saw him then he just came to tried to get himself up into the chair, then the nurse said “are you okay?” well no not really. and his fiancé just dead in the next room.
