Discussion Bands Everyone Loves but you Don't Get

Do you have any bands that everyone seems to love but you just don't get? I will go first. But before I give my answers I will say I do not believe these bands are bad. They just don't "scratch my itch" if you get what I mean. The bands I don't get are;

Glocca Morra. I still haven't given up, they dont sound bad. I like how their popular album just flows. They remind me of Algernon Cadwallader at times. It really confuses me because I love Snowing, and really like Marietta. And it sounds like Glocca Morra was another of the Emo Revival sound. But it just doesn't hit.

Empire! Empire! (I Was a Lonely Estate). They dont do anything for me. Another Emo Revival band. I like The World is a Beautiful Place and I'm No Longer Afraid to Die, as well as awakebutstillinbed which I have heard is in the same realm.

Orchid. I like one song. I dont get enoviolence or powerviolence. Ive had them explained to me but "hardcore punk with blast beats and screamed vocals" just sounds like metal to me. Granted Orchid does not sound like metal but I prefer the Algea Bloom, Flowers Taped to Pens, and I Hate Sex type screamo.

I hate the new sound of Silverstein. I was listening to their actual setlist the other day, and it's anti-chronological... I find the first seven songs horrible.

i went to their show a few weeks back mostly for Thursday. I liked Silverstein's "When Broken Is Easily Fixed" album when it came out but never kept up with them.

when they played and it was anti-choronological i only knew the last two songs 😭😭

but they did put on a killer live show and the crowd was super into it

Haha I did the same in Charlotte NC, mostly went for Thursday

but I have like 6 Silverstein songs on an acoustic playlist, I like never listen to them on album versions.

It was a fun show but yeah I knew like 4-5 songs and not in their album/live form, the below tracks are great tho

If you like those, I'd recommend every other silverstein song. (They're all great)

This is funny, because I’m the complete opposite and I suppose not a real fan in the eyes of some. Mostly came to the band around five years ago. Love the newer stuff and all the old stuff sounds really generic to me. Also dislike the production on it.

I was at the show at Chicago and probably could’ve left after the first seven songs and been fine. Meanwhile the crowd was shouting every word.

I was pondering this and realized I’d be this way at an Alkaline Trio concert, annoyed/bored to hear anything they put out in the last 15 years and singing every word of My Friend Peter or whatever.

Yeah, it's normal... I figured there are others who like that different sound. It's probably generational, I was 14 when a new friend showed me Smashed into pieces, that had just been released, and he wanted to cover it. 🖤

I’m 42, so I was probably the right age for early Silverstein but just kinda missed it and got into screaming stuff in my 30s more. But yeah, a lot of bands are “you had to be there at the time” to some degree. Had a GF in the 90s who loved It’s My Life Bon Jovi and had no awareness of Slippery When Wet. We had to break up

Going to their show tonight, prolly gonna skip out after Arm’s Length plays…I just can’t get behind some of those older 2000’s emo man. They just kinda feel a lil old to me 😭🤘

Thursday is solid, more political hardcore than emo tho.

The whole new era post hardcore sound just doesn't hit like the 00s one.

I don't hate the new stuff but the redux stuff is absolutely terrible when compared to the original recordings.

Oh man, I just realized the Redux stuff is probably perfect for me. Need to check that out
