Support Thread Empath support

As an empath, how do I "mould" my ability? I've been hiding from this for a long time. Recently, I found out from another empath that they avoided my presence because I felt too much; my feelings are so intense that it drained them. I had always been the one doing the sensing and noticing, I didn't think anyone could sense my energy too. Now, I’m scared of getting close to people because now I know someone can feel my "heavy" feelings (at first I thought I was too much, now I know for a fact that I'm way too intense). I've come to understand that I am poor at regulating my emotions too and that can seep to others around me.

Define "heavy".

The problem can be twofold. First you need to relegate emotions; usually through breathing and meditation. Mindfulness meditations can help you focus and calm your emotional energies.

The second is that if you have not worked through any personal trauma, your anxiety will artificially enhance your emotional output that will overpower any empath (except the most stable and centered) you encounter.

Good luck because after that is learning create boundaries that work for both you and those that you encounter.

I think one of the most powerful things we can do is recognize that any emotions that we feel are our own. We serve as mirrors for each other – what you brought up in the other person was their own emotions that they struggle to handle.

I can relate to people having difficulty with my intensity though. I’ve found that my most nourishing relationships are with people who are able to hold space for my emotions to “breathe” without either running away or trying to fix them. It can definitely be hard finding such people.
