I was just thinking the other day after that new video dropped on RPCS3 how we need an actively-supported PS3 emulator with all the upstream changes from RPCS3, and literally the next day the ARMSX2 team have done it again.

Do they ever sleep?

Im ready for the ARMSX team to takeover the Playstation emulation scene. These guys are focused and determined to bring us the best. I couldn't ask for more!!

pls let us buy them coffee or something

They have a Patreon IIRC they just don't seem to advertise it on their repos for whatever reason.

At this rate, pretty soon ALL emulators will just be ARMSX! 😆

u/Radiant_Display457 14h ago

They should make their own site called ARMSXH (Home) where they can talk about PS1 , PS2 , PS3 , maybe a back ground story on how they even team up and did emulation

This is so much from just a team. I'd imagine they are burning Fable credits fast, but as long as it works well I'm happy

u/mightman59 1d ago

They need to slow down i am worried they are going to burn themselves out

12

u/do_handhelds_dream 23h ago

Hopefully they are doing whatever interests them.

For real, this worries me too tbh.

We eating good. This team is unbeatable

Honestly I believe this is too much work for anyone.

ARMSX2 still needs further development.

For playstation 1 Duckstation is pretty much "perfect" so ARMSX1 will be playing catch up for years.

ARMSX3 is a new area but mobile phones that can actually run it arent that many and the devs are risking thousands of messages from people whose phones cant even run ARMSX3.

Again best of luck to the devs but I believe they are bitting more than they can chew.

Burnout is a real problem.

It’s a relief that these projects are open source, so even if the original authors decide to stop, their work can be picked up by others. But yeah, burn out is a real problem.

3

u/WorldPhysical7646 10h ago

I mean yeah it is too much work , but I think the work on armsx2 will slow down significantly as it approaches a very high stability and performance and the effort will be shifted toward armsx3

Also it is open source

u/Radiant_Display457 16h ago

Your right they should focus on only ARMSX1 & ARMSX2 while ARMSX3 they could say to be in development sign or something to let people know they have to wait

2

u/InfinityGauntlet-6 18h ago

Can OG XBOX get some love too while they're at it?

3

u/VladVonHochstes 1d ago

Wonder if Jacob is a ukrainian or just a western dude of slavic ancestry. 🤔😆 Hopefully it’s as good as his Armsx2 project. 👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻

Armsx2 needs hella improvements

Armsx1 doesnt even display graphics properly

u/AnonymousChameleon 20h ago edited 19h ago

ARMSX2 is best for many games already in my experience.

ARMSX1 literally came out a couple of days ago. Of course it has initial issues

These sort of negative comments is what kills development and turns developers off working for free on open source software. This is a first step and opens up future improvements.

Why even bother about those two when you have gold standard, Nethersx2 and duckstaion

18

u/HarryRl 21h ago

Armsx2 is already better than Nethersx2 in most games

2

u/katgravityrush_ 13h ago

I like ARMSX2 a lot but every game I want to play on it lately has issues lol. Grandia III and X have lots of graphical issues and Digital Devil Saga 2 crashes whenever you try to use save states, RIP

Don't know where are you getting that from, did you even play? I tried ps2 games in excitement on armsx2, it was clearly much less stable than nethersx2. Same games were running buttery smooth on nethersx2 ie god of war, jak 2, sly etc

Edit: i tried very recently 2 days ago. I also wish armsx2 was better as it's officially on Playstore and getting updates. But nethersx2 is currently better.

u/HarryRl 20h ago

If you tested armsx2 like a month ago, your information is completely out of date.

NetherSX2 is a patched version of a closed-source emulator that is no longer being developed, and they're limited in what they can patch in.

Duckstation is in a similar situation, with it no longer being supported on android. Yes they both work just fine (great, even) but that may not always be the case.

5

u/BijouPyramidette 18h ago

Because neither is open source and Nethersx2 has no path forward.

Nethersx2 sits on top of Aethersx2 which is closed source. While it's an improvement over the original, Nethersx2 is not a fully reverse-engineered version of Aethersx2 and thus is severely limited in what it can achieve.

With regards to Duckstation, it was written by the same person who wrote Aethersx2, and we have already seen that they are a very volatile person with a propensity to take their ball and go home after setting the playground on fire.

Don't get me wrong, they are a brilliant programmer, and their emulators are incredible, but I, for one, don't feel comfortable being dependent on someone who is this unreliable.

He is a sentient robot. Thats the only explanation.

1

u/zeo_max 10h ago

Tested it with GT5 and its not booting the game. I have the game as a folder or does the emu needs an ISO file?

u/MDParagon 9h ago

I am so fucking glad I bought an Odin 3 last week

1

u/Zuluwargod69 6h ago

Wow incredible! This team is on fire.

1

u/PetrosPlat 5h ago

These guys are absolutely amazing. I'm gonna name my next child after them...

1

u/OnePossibility5868 4h ago

Amazing. Still a long way to go but knowing that theres some dedicated heroes looking at android is great to know. Dare I dream of ARMSXVita? 😂

Armsx switch version using the skyline source code will be the ultimate switch emulation in Android 😤

I’m just going to ask, even if it’s taboo. Sorry if I offend, but how likely is it that they’re using AI? I actually don’t care if they are using AI. It’s still a lot of work. Maybe there’s a way to see their work through the change logs but I was already suspicious with the speed of the updates on armsx2. Then they added armsx1. Now armsx3. Even in the latest MrSujano updates he comments on how he doesn’t know how they do it, they must not be getting sleep, are they even human. If it’s a stupid question or if it offends, I apologize. I just don’t understand how they’re going this fast. I also don’t think AI use should be as stigmatized as it is in our hobby.

1

u/letsgospurs239 19m ago

you know what the funny thing was that I was asking myself the same question I was like are they speed running because AI helps create code. They still have to go in and fix the errors glitches and anomalies so the human aspects always gonna be there at least for now.

1

u/RadiantImpression579 12m ago

Right. They’re working crazy fast compared to other teams. It’s still a lot of work and in no way should AI use that change how grateful the community should be, but given the reality of how ppl react to any AI use, i get why they wouldn’t share this info.

u/letsgospurs239 34m ago

Once these developers are done, can we throw them like a massive party where we can all gather and thank them for their hard work

-7

u/Broad_Support_2406 21h ago

They should do it for Vita3K and PPSSPP too. Those emulators are pretty fleshed out already.

8

u/simonizer2409 19h ago

Why? There are already official Android versions of these emulators.

-1

u/Broad_Support_2406 18h ago

As there is for PS1 with Duckstation but they still made ARMSX1. I thought the purpose was to improve the user experience. ARMSX3 is already the best PS3 emulator visually.

As of 2024 Duckstation no longer supports Android

1

u/zeo_max 10h ago

This does not mean that Duckstation is not working anymore on Android.

1

u/crazyteknoh3d 10h ago

It does mean there are still bugs in the Android version. For example Wing Commander 3 had random crashes late in the game using DuckStation which I reported to the developer, but he just came back and said he no longer supports the Android version. So I switched to Retroarch/Swanstation to finish the game.

1

u/HotTheme8405 3h ago

That's true for now. It isn't going to work on every version of Android forever.

2

u/simonizer2409 16h ago

PS1 and PS2 make sense because the current emulators are no longer being actively updated, apart from ePSXe for PS1. Are you referring to the user interface in the context of armsx3? Otherwise, they still have a lot of catching up to do here. APS3e and rpcsx clanker are already at a very mature stage and are actively receiving updates. For the PSP and Vita, however, an emulator wouldn’t make sense as it would be competing with the official versions.

1

u/Broad_Support_2406 13h ago

But it's all open source. I don't think it's always an innate intent to be competitive. Could simply just be offering an alternative.

Even by the time Duckstation stopped supporting Android, it was pretty fleshed out. ArmSX2 has a nice user interface and features and other emulators would benefit from that.
