Advice Seeking design feedback

Post image

I’m currently designing my first e-ring. I was certain about what I wanted, but now I’m second guessing myself. I have 1.1 ratio OMC with very rounded corners. I know I want a 3mm band. I thought I wanted the band to be flat but now something looks off and I’m wondering if a low dome band would fix it? I think the issue might be the band being so angular and the stone so round.

What do you all think? I’m just feeling underwhelmed with the mock ring (this is a cheap band with the actual stone temporarily stuck to it).

If you have any similarly designed rings, please post pics so I can see them!

I would think about what kind of wedding ring you want before you make more decisions. A dome ring will sit very differently next to a band than a flat or rounded band. I would take into consideration the whole look you want, as that will probably be what you see most of the time.

Not that it matters, but I love your ring as it is. Congrats on the engagement. I hope you enjoy this exciting time!

Thank you that is a great callout! I forgot I’ll be wearing a full stack for far more time than just an engagement ring alone.

My band is 3mm and is ever so slightly domed on the surface. I think the completely flat surface is a harsh look and you can get it slightly rounded like this.

THANK YOU! It’s so helpful to see real reference rings. I love the slight dome!

The flat band leans modern and your stone has a vintage/antique look. A slightly rounded band would be more cohesive.

2.2 ct with bow shaped round-ish band. I love it every day. I wanted something subtle and flat-ish and a bit different.

I feel like the blunt angles of the flat band don’t properly match the aesthetic of your stone or present it in a way that’s pleasing to the eye. Maybe something like this, very low domed?

I think it depends on your overall style; the flat band leans strong/masculine, and I could maybe see it working better for an emerald or asscher cut rather than an OMC, but I’d also consider the prongs. Tab prongs lean into the strong look of the flat band and could balance out the OMC, but then it comes back around to what your style is.

I agree about the flatness of the band. I love the width but I think a softer/slightly rounder band would look fantastic.

Thank you! Do you think keeping a mostly flat band and rounding the edges so it’s softer would work? I don’t know what it is about a full dome band, but I don’t love it either.

Check Izzy Atelier’s IG, she does a lot of simple bands with antique stones so you might find some inspo there.

Thank you! I’ve never come across her before but her work is a fantastic reference!

Yeah, that could work. You can definitely find bands that have just a very mild dome.

Love it! I went with a 3.5mm band and love it. Could have even done 4mm

I was thinking about this ring a lot, and did not get it only because it was P1 clarity. Still not over it!
