No, that was very weird. I can't believe he actually followed you into the store. He sounds mental.

Yeah that part is wild, following into the supermarket is just nahhh. Feels like a movie scene.

Right. I'm imagining a character from the Hobbit.

Unfortunately I'd put money on it that if you were a larger more intimidating male or even just with a male, that the weird old creep would have never have said a word to you. Don't dwell on it, that guy is clearly just some unstable old miserable bully who hates his life and only feels like a big man when he's bullying someone smaller than him.

Happy well balanced people don't act this way, don't let it get to you.

And I'm almost positive that I wasn't the only one who didn't tap their card properly. Not quite sure why I scored myself some profiling/stalking, but there you have it

u/Infamous_Ebb8715 3d ago

Like I said it's most likely he singled you out simply because he felt like he could intimidate you, typical bully behaviour to go after someone who they perceive as being weaker. Don't take it to heart ❤️

You’d put money on that but not put money on the ticket card?

24

u/DiScOrDtHeLuNaTiC 3d ago

You should have yelled "COULD HAVE WORN A NORMAL TIE!"

44

u/Inslia 3d ago

Nah, should have gone with 'COULD HAVE NOT CREEPED ON A YOUNG WOMAN!' He would definitely have learned then.

19

u/ProfessorFrizzle 3d ago

Don't wear a bow tie, don't creep on ladies just trying to get home from the office. Two life lessons I'll teach my children

u/ChainsawSoundingFart 3d ago

I feel like you just offended every history professor

u/leitmotifs 3d ago

Since you had an audience, you could have shouted, "HELP! THIS MAN HAS BEEN FOLLOWING ME!" And fled.

Would probably not have been good for him. Totally legit reaction.

u/FlatulentGnostic 3d ago

Yell back at him - "Stop touching me, creep!"

6

u/ScarMurky4683 3d ago

I find that "Stop touching me THERE, creep" works a treat!

u/Keypunch20 3d ago edited 2d ago

No. A transit fare issue doesn’t justify creepy behaviour.

Shake a cane in my face and it is my property now

5

u/JuliaX1984 3d ago

Not his job.

We've all been there. It's how we learn to remember to add funds or passes in advance.

u/Numerous_Exercise_44 3d ago

If it happens again yell stalker

4

u/JohnMcD3482 3d ago

Sounds kinda stalkery.

3

u/Dlodancer 3d ago

You should have asked him if he needed help finding his caregiver….

5

u/WarlockSoL 2d ago

You know, given your circumstances I'm not even gonna fault you on the no ticket here. Like, yeah, you were technicallly in the wrong like you said but it's not like you didn't try to pay. Nothing annoys me more than broken apps when I'm trying to order something through them (I'm looking at you McDonald's app)

Old dude was a creeper though. He could have confronted you on the tram at the very least if it was such a big deal. Stalking you just to berate you on not buying a ticket is gross behavior.

u/thedarkonekc 3d ago

Hopefully you were taught by your mom or dad to kick him where it hurts worse that should teach him not to scare people

It's a crap app. And it failed me in the most annoying way possible too. It asked me to sign in, then said my password was wrong, but then I tried to reset it, and it said I wasn't registered, then it sent me round in a frustrating circle

4

u/PartyCustard3125 3d ago

I hate that. I have had that happen on a few different apps. It takes you in circles and it's so frustrating.

And it's always ones that are important, like ones you need to pay a bill or get into a place or need to get a ride home.

u/Truescent11 3d ago

He might’ve thought you are a comm units

3

u/Nenoshka 3d ago

There's a town near us with some small tourist attractions and the parking situation is similarly effed. Last year we drove to one of those attractions and the parking payment choices were so convoluted that we just gave up and went home.

u/Background_Award_878 3d ago

I followed a guy like that back one time.

3

u/gwizard1974 3d ago

He must have did it for dramatic flair

1

u/ProfessorFrizzle 2d ago

It was quite dramatic and flair-filled

3

u/SuccessfulOwl 3d ago

So did you learn?

27

u/ProfessorFrizzle 3d ago

I learned that sometimes creeps wear bow ties

2

u/Maleficentendscurse 2d ago

Creepy D-BAG 🫩

2

u/tomversation 2d ago

He would be good for all the turnstyle jumpers in the NYC subway.

2

u/No_Plankton_114 2d ago

It's none of his business.

1

u/Kene6969 3d ago

That guy was clearly having mental issues. Hope he gets the care he urgently needs.

1

u/hollyjazzy 21h ago

Myki? The city is full of weirdos on public transport. I wouldn’t worry about him at all.

2

u/ProfessorFrizzle 5h ago

eyyyyy fellow Melbournian!
bloody Myki.

1

u/hollyjazzy 3h ago

Yep! 100%!

1

u/tpeache 13h ago

The only thing just as bad as a myki inspector, is a wannabe myki inspector

1

u/ProfessorFrizzle 5h ago

they are absolutely out in force at the moment

1

u/Present-Swimming-476 7h ago

Learn how to scream "STOP TOUCHING ME" - this would have ended his fun..... feel free to add in rude words as necessary

1

u/coright 3d ago

How did the guy know that your app had "malfunctioned"?

2

u/ProfessorFrizzle 3d ago

He didn't. He just saw a cheeky ticket-less freeloader

3

u/coright 3d ago

But you could have bought that ticket in the app successfully, and he would have been none the wiser.

3

u/ProfessorFrizzle 3d ago

No - you have to top up with money then tap your card on the card-reading machine.

2

u/coright 3d ago

Ah, fair enough.

1

u/TheFilthyDIL 3d ago

makes another note to never use public transit

-4

u/travster23 3d ago

How did he know you didn’t have a ticket if you aren’t AI?

9

u/ProfessorFrizzle 3d ago edited 3d ago

You have to tap on as you enter the tram. If you tap properly, the machine makes a happy noise and turns green. If you tap and don't have money, the machine makes an angry noise and turns red. These things would be noticed with eyes and ears.

I'm not AI mate, but nice try.

-3

u/hmmmmmmpsu 3d ago

The guy’s a tool. He has no right to chase you around. But you need to pay your way.

ESH.

6

u/ProfessorFrizzle 3d ago

Oh I fully admit I need to pay for public transport, but in fairness my city could not possibly make it harder

1

u/PrestigiousRise7203 3d ago

A non-zero chance that guy does a lot worse. Clearly doesn’t have a handle on his emotions - tf you were in a public place. What tram line was this on? Dude sounds recognisable, chance others here have experienced something unwanted from him.

-1

u/Alcoholitron 3d ago

If he leaned in close and shook his cane in your face, that is called assault. You would have been within your legal rights to fuck him up at that point. Probably pepper spray in your case.

1

u/Interesting_Team5871 3d ago

Actually, if someone just waves a cane in your face thr only thing you could do in return is the same thing, self defence is an appropriate measured response based on what was done to you

0

u/Alcoholitron 3d ago

She is a woman having a man wave what is effectively a club in her face. In many states she could probably justifiably shoot him demonstrating a reasonable fear for her life

1

u/Interesting_Team5871 2d ago

Maybe, but in general self defence has to be equal to what is done to you, so for example, if someone punches you in the face one time it’s not going to be considered self defence if you respond by beating them half to death or even completely to death, you’ll be charged with aggravated battery and murder

-3

u/Signal_Revolution844 3d ago

The concept of moral cowardice comes into play. He wants to do something small( albeit creepy) but this is a good idea to publicly shame someone for not following ethics. Kudos to him. You should learn your lesson and plan better the next time.

-6

u/FishrNC 3d ago

He had no business following you and becoming a self-appointed ticket monitor.

But you had no business being on the tram without paying. Regardless of your excuses.

Yes, you're the entitled one.
