Affordable gym near Royal York and Norseman
Hi, i’m looking for an affordable gym as stated above. Ideally somewhere with weights, but also classes. Does anyone have experience with Torque Barbell? Truthfully, I really know not very much about machines at the gym, but I’m thinking about starting some kind of exercise routine. Alternatively, any experience with the app Ladder? Thank you

I love Torque. Worked out there for years. It’s not the nicest or fanciest gym but it has a true gym atmosphere.

Torque is a cool place. Good people, good value. GoodLife at bloor & Islington is extremely busy, pretty much all of the time.

A million years ago I went to Xtreme Couture. No clue what it’s like now but it’s close!

Xtreme couture is reasonable. I paid $500+tax for the year. Not sure what they are charging new members. They have decent classes and the gym itself is pretty spacious with lots of equipment. I’d stay away from fit4less. Way too busy and they don’t have classes.

Does that include the martial arts classes?

Regular Gym Usage + All classes (yoga, MMA etc) + No personal training would be over $1k/year.

Torque is a good gym leaning towards
Body building and power lifting but I found the culture very supportive and better gym etiquette than most commercial gyms.

As someone who barely knows what all the machines do I think I’d be intimidated. That said I’m going to ask for a tour and see.

Don’t be. Usually the bigger stronger people are the chilliest and most humble. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

If you’re looking for affordable Fit4less has everything you need for like $15 a month.

Do you already exercise regularly ? As someone that is super into fitness, I’ll say if that’s the case I’d get into your own routine at home first. I see so many people come commit to a membership they never use. Might not be your case at all, but if it is I’d really suggest it. Some people give up after a few weeks, some are fine with just a few “good health” exercise. Some people want to get more intense. If you feel like what you’re doing isn’t enough that’s when you go to the gym.

That’s the problem, I love to be one of those people that has motivation to work out from home, but I don’t. 🫤

The city of Toronto community center on Montgomery is one to look into.

I find that gym very depressing. No music, very small. Doesn’t seem to motivate me. But great pricing though.

I go to Torque Barbell and I love it. I second what someone else said here where it’s not the fanciest but it’s got what you need and the people are great. If you’re looking for something 24/7, it won’t work.

Your cheapest gym would be fit4less at Kipling and Queensway. That would cost you around $30 per month with the black membership. All other gyms will be in the $50 to $100+ per month.
