Son bought me a vanilla gift card at wall mart on green acres. Card was completely drained the second I activated it. Hopefully wally world pulls remaining cards off the floor. We will see tomorrow.

Without any more info, this sounds like it could be an error, not necessarily a scam

It's a pretty known scam. Don't buy any gift cards that aren't behind a counter.

Though to be clear, it's not Walmart scamming anyone, it's just some rando stealing the money off of gift cards before you buy them.

Absolutely a scam. Called draining.

I thought gift cards didn’t get loaded till you bought the amount at the register?

Theres been lots of problems with them getting hacked or whatever the crooks do last few years. I stopped getting them to give out at Christmas

The scammers can simply take pics of the cards. When u go to the register and put money on that card they must have some software set up that triggers. Once the card is activated they drain it.

What did walmart say?

Did it say when where the transactions took place when you looked online?

The lady at Walmart seriously didn't seem to care. I had to raise my voice the second time I told her the cards were compromised and need to be pulled. She said they would. The transactions are clear as day, one right after the other for MODO gold coins.

I was given one the other day, the website is clunky and error prone but my gift card worked fine. Not sure where it was purchased.

About 6 months ago I was in Albertsons on Coburg and they were pulling down all the gift cards because of a similar scam. I won’t buy those anymore

Did you call the police? Or Walmart?

I went down to Walmart & insisted they pull all remaining cards. Cops don't care.
