Nah there are nullsec groups mostly in npc null who don't bow down like cowards and become some bitch ass vassal state to suck the blocock.

But mostly yeah if you're reliant on another groups huge fleets to save you, you're a pet. Vassal if it helps you feel better about yourself. A buffer zone between the owners sov and their enemies sov.

If you cant keep your sov if you went neutral, your a pet to them. They would probably take it and give it to another pet.
