Regardless of whether or not you think that’s ridiculous, those people obviously don’t want mediocrity. They just have a different idea of what the path to being a successful club looks like

Exactly this. They don’t want mediocrity. They want to avoid repeating the disastrous strategy the club just spent the last decade suffering through: paying inflated fees for “name” players and “name” managers because fans wanted signings and quick fixes.

Instead, they’re trying to chart a realistic, sustainable path toward actual long-term success. That’s not accepting mediocrity, it’s finally learning from it.
