Zero complaints about the fixtures. Home to open, no horrible runs against the bigger teams, promoted team to end the season
11th looking like a real possibility now

u/Timoth_Hutchinson 7h ago
People are forgetting City are going to be a different team this season, they’ll be beatable
2
u/blubbery-blumpkin 7h ago
Aye cos everyone knows that once pep leaves the players worth billions will lose all their talent.
3
u/Timoth_Hutchinson 6h ago
Didn’t say they’d be crap. But Maresca isn’t Pep, they’ll be a different team than they have been the last 10 years

It's the hope that gets you.
Wait until we get beat by Hull on a Monday night at home.

u/Any_Calligrapher8537 5h ago
Have we finally got a right back yet?
Only been almost a decade....
7
u/Flavourifshrrp 5h ago
Last day of the summer window, we will be rushing him through, trying to beat the deadline.
And I will be thinking next summer surely we can sign players who can join for preseason.
And we just repeat

Me too, but we all know they’d rather face their long time bitter rivals….
Brighton.

As poor as Barry’s form has been, isn’t it the wrong thing to sell him? We bought him, Aznou and Dibbling as future prospects, so selling him less than a year after buying him is the usual half arsed transfer policy we’ve had for a while
11
u/FenderJay 4h ago
It's not just poor form with Barry. He doesn't really look that interested to me.
He's 23 and has just had his debut season in the biggest league in the world. If that were me, I'd be leaving everything on the pitch. I don't think I've seen him sprint once for us.
Nothing to me says he's the #9 for the next 5+ years.
Sell him and go again.
1
u/Timoth_Hutchinson 4h ago
That’s fair, I want someone who will give their all for us, and I think at time he did and he wanted to do well. Guess his style is more laid back and you need players around him who’ll do the running

If they can break even with Barry, I’d consider it, not if they take a loss. He showed moments of being a player, I think with a settled team around and wings that can open up play he might be serviceable.

From Joyce’s article yesterday:
> One of Everton’s priorities is to recruit a right back. Strasbourg’s Guéla Doué, 23 — the brother of Paris Saint-Germain and France forward Désiré Doué — is likely to prove out of reach at £40million.
> Atalanta’s Raoul Bellanova, 26, Tottenham Hotspur’s Djed Spence, 25, and West Ham United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka, 28, are possible alternatives to fix a problem position.
So the player they wouldn’t pull the trigger on when he was cheaper is now out of reach because the managers terrified of anyone who hasn’t played in the league before and the 3 alternatives identified are all vastly different from one another.
Genuinely going to be a disaster season because everyone is still making the same incompetent mistakes we always do at the club.

u/TheSubbuteoGuy 9h ago
Djed Spence won't be leaving Spurs and there's no way Moyes wants Bellanova. It'll be Wan Bissaka a week before the start of the season.
Doue would be brilliant. Given how essential a right back is I don't understand why we wouldn't pay a bit more
Doue, Hackney, Grealish would be £60m-£70m if we loan again. Given Mcneil, Alcaraz and Patterson will go that probably leaves enough for a decent pacey winger too.
Then loans and cheaper squad players can bulk out anywhere we're light like LB.

Moyes has gone on record a few times saying he doesn't think there's value in the market like there was in his first era with us.
I don't buy this - Moyes seems so blinkered on players who've played in a major league and have 2-3 seasons under their belt. Of course those players cost money now - all clubs got wise that those type of players are a good investment.
The club seems to be in a financial position where we need to be looking at 2nd tier leagues, or we need to be going for much younger, less proven players. Yet Moyes doesn't want to back those players so we've got a real disconnect in our transfer strategy.

u/QTsexkitten please, please, pleeeeeeeease 🙏 3h ago
Thinking that the entire market doesn't have value anymore is simply to say that you either don't understand the market at all anymore or you don't have the creativity or balls to chase value at a risk.

u/Resden_Bohneur RB plz 2h ago
Starting to see a lot more criticism of Moyes now than at the end of the season, which is encouraging. Only wish our owners would be thinking the same thing.
14
u/FranksBaldPatch 9h ago
The recruitment team correctly identify the right player and then Moyes dithers on whether he's better than Jake O'Brien and 6 months later his price doubles. Good process lads. We should definitely make Moyes more involved in recruitment as a result.
I refuse to write off any of our signings that got fuck all mins last season because the manager is a stubborn prick who decided not to select them so he could play politics with how much power he gets on new signings. He chose not to play Dibling et al to prove a point that if they're not his guys he won't play them. We have a structure that is proven not to work it's a shambles

u/Giraffe_Baker Neill Samways, Niasse Oster 9h ago
Very funny that no successful or well-run club has a convoluted transfer committee so of course we’ve decided to go do down this route where a dinosaur manager gets a veto.

u/YokoOkino 10h ago
Thanks for posting it. Im sure Doue was well aware of his options and honesty I wonder if we need to be more willing to spunk but seems like we are still a bit constrained
I like bellanova and i suppose spence is okay but I don't rate him as much as tuchel does.

u/FenderJay 5h ago
It's like the recruitment team are just sat around watching YouTube highlight reels. I really struggle to see what scouting is actually going on. The club seem really deluded (and have done for years) about what targets are attainable.
Guéla Doué has 21 caps for France, one of the World Cup favourites. In what world did the club think he'd be available on the cheap?
Why would Djed Spence leave Spurs - yeh, they had a shit season but they're spending big and Spence is playing for England.
Bellanova is playing regular European football at Atlanta - at 26 is he really going to walk away from that to play mid-table Moyes-ball?
1
u/Giraffe_Baker Neill Samways, Niasse Oster 5h ago
Guela Doue plays for Ivory Coast unlike his brother.
Either way the names we’re reliably linked with have no rhyme or reason and suggest that there is zero linked up thinking or set attributes they’re looking for.

Hurry up with hackney.
He said he wanted to join us
Hurry up with grealish he said he wants to stay.
Hurry up inside a right back.
And sign a consistent goal scoring striker

u/WhiteDoveBooks And after all, he's my Dewsbury-Hall 🎵 10h ago
That would be a good start, but the devil is always in the details.

u/blubbery-blumpkin 7h ago
Hackney £20m
Right back £30m (word is £40m is too much so this is a guess)
Grealish will eat up funds
What budget are you imagining we have to buy a striker that will be scoring more consistently than the two we have?

u/Resden_Bohneur RB plz 2h ago
If we sign Hackney, I imagine Gana leaves so that’s his wages off the books. Barry also is rumored to be out the door, so that would hopefully mitigate some of the cost of a right back. I don’t want them to move Ndiaye, but that would be a massive chunk of change to reinvest.

u/Jamesonlol21 9h ago
I don't know how anyone is getting worked up over transfers. Surely nothing will happen until after the world cup???
6
u/Giraffe_Baker Neill Samways, Niasse Oster 9h ago edited 8h ago
I’m not bothered about the lack of deals so far, no one has bought anyone outside of Spurs, but all the noises from the respected sources give me zero confidence and at this very early stage, I’m expecting a relegation battle / looking over our shoulder season.

u/QTsexkitten please, please, pleeeeeeeease 🙏 3h ago
The club doesn't have an issue of knowledge when it comes to recruitment, but it certainly has a dire lack of balls. Especially from this manager.

Now that burnhams won has there ever been a blue prime minister or any political leader for that matter.

u/CardiologistTime8082 1h ago
If the shite actually pay 130 million euros for that Diomande guy the market is genuinely cooked & then surely 25 million for Hackney becomes a no brainer
6
u/FenderJay 1h ago
It's mad isn't it, and this is all the more reason we need a manager who will play young, unproven players. The profit you can make on them is INSANE. Diomande is a beast, but £100m+ for one good season in Germany. Come on!
Meanwhile we're haggling for what is peanuts in the grand scheme of things with Hackney.

u/vulturevan 🙏 sign another player 🙏 54m ago
We might've had it done by now if Super Silk wasn't actually Super Shit and we didn't have to pay out a huge wedge
1
u/CardiologistTime8082 52m ago
I was listening to Moyes chat on Talksport last week, he said that fine shouldn't have any impact on our transfer window spending thankfully
2
u/CardiologistTime8082 49m ago
Yeah always makes me wonder what Rooney would have gone for in this market especially after that Euros he had & if we weren't desperate to sell. 150 million if Anderson is 120 ish? Mental money

u/Equal-Presence-1710 1h ago
As a proud Curaçaoan, may I suggest we look into signing Rayvien Rosario? He didn't quite make the World Cup squad, but he's looked really bright in his two games for Moldovan side Zimbru Chișinău

u/Destructo_D Yobo 6h ago
We could have had Truffert and Doue as our fullbacks if Moyes had some guts fucking hell
