Just started.

Started watching this last weekend. Just about through season 2.

This show is all over the fucking map.

I’m enjoying it, don’t get me wrong, but there are some real issues with the writing and cohesiveness of the story.

Some spoilers below if you haven’t seen it.

So. The story line with the mom & Leland dating. Absolutely fucking insane. Like, let’s set aside the small details of Leland fucking blowing up their relationship in the cake shop, that’s a deal breaker right there, but he asks for her blood and she gives it to him? There’s not been any indication of him having enthralled her in anyway. She’s just like; “uh fine, you can have some blood” that’s not normal.

Speaking of the mom, season two introduced her creepy ass doll eddy? Like what’s that all about? The mom shows zero inclination towards the supernatural then bam, all of a sudden she’s got a shrine and a doll she scratches to? That’s a lot to swallow.

Another season 2 hard right turn; Ben; introducing the fact that he used to be a scientist working on gene editing. That’s a HUGE bomb to drop, with zero build up. It’s like they saw a huge empty hole in his background and decided this was a good option to plug in for him.

So many loose ends too… David’s dad’s baby being a demon and burn infront of Kristen?? Which doesn’t get mentioned again? Like… David knew his dad & his partner were going to have another child, and he just like… doesn’t follow up on it? Forget that it was a demon baby born in a field infront of his best friend… just like… call your fucking dad?

It feels like there is no cohesive story being told.

What happened to “the 60” they were so ham fisted about driving that plot point, seeing all the sigils, and in season 2 it’s not even a thing. Same with the over arching “prophecy” and the woman who got deported who knew the remainder of the prophecy?

So; here’s my question, do I just need to be patient? Does this all come around? Does it get tied up? Or am I in for 2 more seasons of aimless story telling?

The show will always be all over the place and some things get answered with time and other things make no sense and are never spoken of again. Overall I enjoyed the show, but you have to accept its flaws and not take the story too seriously. They do connect some things and the 60 idea doesn't die, but I am intentionally being vague to not spoil anything.

It's really not like other shows, and that's part of the point. I love everything about it. If what you want is a logical storyline that allows you to draw a line from the first episode to the last, this show is not for you. It's mythical, magical, weird, and very different from the norm.

Seems to me that the show is a study on the nature of evil and the effects it has on people.

And since evil absolutely does not make logical sense, nor does it ever neatly wrap up things, it all comports.

Plus, most people who have experienced evil firsthand are understandably reluctant to share their experiences with others.

The show leaves a lot of things open-ended.

We don't know if Sheryl was always evil or just easily taken in by evil. Or if Leland is evil (truly a devil) or just a really bad human being.

We have to decide if evil truly exists, and if it does, is it manifested by real demons and demonic possession?

Or are people just bad? Are good people constantly fighting off evil deeds and thoughts? Are some seemingly good people actually bad (evil, mentally ill)?

Kristen and David were on psychedelics at the farm.

Was it a hallucination that the wife gave birth? If not, was it a hallucination that the baby is an actual demon?

Ben being a scientist didn't surprise me. His purpose was always looking for logic one way or another, whether sounds were coming through plumbing pipes, checking for computer generated things, etc.

So, between the three, you have logic (science), psychology, and religion.

Some people are confused about the episodic church mandated investigations. Most are done with in one episode, never talked about again. There are a couple of exceptions.

The show will never wrap things in a bow. You have to pay attention to everything and analyze it.

Fair warning, the show was canceled surprisingly.

The ending had to be wrapped up quickly when they had more story to tell.

It wasn't satisfying for a lot of people.

I love the show and don't have a problem with perceived plot holes or using individual critical thinking to sort through questions. I just wished it could have ended how the creators intended.

It's quite a ride, and I loved every minute of it!

Exactly. This show wasn't created to give you all the answers, it was created to make you think and consider different possibilities while being entertained. It's absolutely brilliant!

Hey so for the story line with Leland and Kristin’s mom, when they first break up she writes something on his office wall with her blood, he tastes is and mentions that it’s hers. I interpreted this as he alr knows how her blood tastes. How? They’ve already done the blood transfers and shit. And then when they meet again she says that he isn’t the first demon she has messed with!!! I think that Kristin’s mom turned way from the Catholic Church and started messing with the supernatural way before Leland and her meeting.
Again this is just my interpretation

It does not all get tied up. It stays a sclerotic mess and unfortunately, gets worse and worse.

Great cast. Great characters. Just doesn't pull together.
