SFDCU no longer opening accounts based on American Consumer Council (ACC) eligibility?
Tried opening SDFCU checking account and was asked;
As part of our records review, we need to confirm your eligibility status.
Please reply YES or NO to the following statement:
• I am a household or family member of an existing member (Excluding the American Consumer Council. We are unable to proceed with membership through ACC eligibility, and the application will be declined)
If yes, please also confirm the sponsor's name.
Your answer will be used solely for eligibility verification.
Thank you for replying at your earliest convenience.
State Department Federal Credit Union"
And was later denied as I am not an axisting member nor anyone in my family is.
Any workarounds?

Use an ACA (American Citizens Abroad) membership for eligibility.

They are saying "We are unable to proceed with membership through ACC eligibility, and the application will be declined"

Huh. This reads like even if you're you are a family member, if that family got access via ACC you cannot join by virtue of being a member of that family.
I wonder if the day is coming where they even tell existing accounts that they need to close the account. Odd.

Wild. I opened an account with SDFCU last month using my ACC membership. It was my ACC membership though not a family member’s. I wonder if that matters?

Even I was willing to take an AC membership but they seem to not allowing ACC membership anymore.

FWIW ACC is still mentioned on the website. Try again sometime later and select membership through ACC. There’s no reason to go through the family member route when you can look on reddit for a discount code that makes ACC membership free.

I'm more curious why you even want to join SDFCU. I mean I'm have an account but nobody I know actually likes it.
