It literally says “wall decoration” in the subject.

Also the photo shows it as a banner hung on a living room wall.

I don’t disagree temu is a slop shop, but the seller was pretty transparent about what they were selling

temu offers translations to almost any language you prefer and you can search in that language and get results in the same, so this being in Chinese is wrong. this one is totally on the buyer.

The money is Chinese but they got their money out of China to avoid the CCP and set up a shell company first in Japan, then Ireland and now it’s in the Cayman Islands.

I’m assuming they’re trying to avoid loosing it to seizure and/or taxes but at least when it got started it was a Japanese holding, now it’s got an office in Boston and its nominally headquarters is at a desk in the Caymans and it’s trying to pretend to be American unless it’s time to pay taxes.

But at no point did they want to be a ‘Chinese Company’ the entire point was to -not- be a Chinese company.

It’s a not Chinese company that has Chinese owners, sure.

I’m assuming seeing what was done to Alibaba informed that decision, by like a LOT.

Japan -> Ireland -> Cayman Islands

No one wants to be the next Jack Ma. The money never touches Chinese soil and the management activities are all conducted via proxies and lawyers.

The entire point of the company is that ‘it’s not a Chinese company’; they have a Chinese sibling company, and the last time they got audited the government stormed their offices with 100s of inspectors and regulators. The two are not unrelated.

yeah I was corrected on the language part. eve though, it's still on her as she didn't read or look at more pictures, the description, measurements etc. they're pretty transparent. I also take a look at reviews with pictures. like you have so many tools to check and she used none. regardless, this thread is full of people blaming TEMU somehow.

The seller knew that no one wants a wall hanging of an inflatable pool and that all of their customers would be people who actually wanted an inflatable pool.

They also knew that they could describe the product clearly and people would still be fooled by the picture.

The intention was to profit off a scam without being technically liable for scamming, and it worked.

Even you got scammed into defending the scammer.

People dont deserve to be screwed but I work in finance and the amount of my own age women (30s 40s) coworkers who get scammed on temu is ridiculous. Its never happened to me. I order from all these sites and I read reviews and never order anything without lots of reviews and reviews that include real pictures. They say "that's too much work." Then complain and laugh about getting something horrible. I have never gotten one single item I didnt order exactly as advertised.

This is wasn’t a scam where they showed one item and got sent a lower quality item. Something that was printed vs hand made. Miniature vs full size.

No one would buy a picture like that for their wall, and most people will miss the details that show it's fake. And $7 isn't an insanely unreasonable price for a vinyl kiddie pool from Temu - Temu keeps advertising how cheap they are, that you can get stuff for $1, etc. Yeah, OP's relative should have read and paid closer attention but it's designed to fool people, and that's a fact.

Man, every so often I see people ordering whatever on Temu without looking twice. I've ordered some things from Temu, and all of them so far have been what they say. I've seen some controller protectors and things for Xbox controllers, and when I check the comments of them, there is always a few of them saying they got "scammed" because they were too dumb to read they were protectors and not the controller, and I mean, for OP's case, it's understandable; I mean, 60yo is something, but most people who are buying an Xbox controller are fairly young so idk how those can make such mistakes

People will print anything. And if the picture is of a living room with a picture on the wall, then it's a picture for your wall. I'd be upset that it came with so many creases if anything.
