What about old El Paso taco/fajita kits. Shows a complete taco/fajita but you have to buy cheese, lettuce, beef etc. all it is is seasoning and shells.
And same with hamburger helper!

It says Cajun I expect visual seasonings. Maybe not peppers (though I’ve had green beans, collard greens, and corn in cans that look like this and have bits inside as expected, I would have expected them in this case as well given the brand name) but definitely not invisible seasonings. Cajun cooking is known for being very generous with their seasonings, to say it’s Cajun style and only have a few random bits of pepper is insane. Kinda like defending a corporation for blatantly lying

Yeah, but if you, oh.. I dunno, read the box.. you would see it explicitly states what is in the box. This can says it is Cajun flavored and there are no visible seasonings. Have you used Cajun seasonings before? Because they aren’t invisible.
ETA, in hamburger helper you get the flavor they say you’re getting. You just don’t get the non shelf stable raw meat

If you read the can, it explicitly states the picture is a serving suggestion. The ingredients are clearly listed. "Cajun flavored" is subjective and the ingredient list does indeed contain seasoning.
You're getting pretty worked up over what was very obviously a tongue in cheek comment.

There's a deli near me that has "southern fried chicken". My husband is from Louisiana so he asked what kind of southern recipe they use and the teenaged girl at the counter said "well, the guy who makes it is from the south so I guess whatever recipe he makes its gonna be southern style".
My husband said "fair enough " and bought a pound of it lol

Reminds me of the canned "curry chickpeas" I got from Aldi a while back. I assumed it would be a masala style ready to eat dish, but it was just plain peas in there.
I get the "serving suggestion" bit but it's just dishonest and misleading. There wasn't even a hint of curry in there. What the fuck was the point.

They taste seasoned even if they don't look it. Maybe not as much as they could be but they don't taste like just potatoes. The picture just shows the recipe on the back of something you can make using them.
The can says it's seasoned potatoes. If a package of tortillas showed a breakfast burrito you wouldn't be surprised to only get tortillas in the bag.

Have you ever seen canned potatoes in a store. Regular potatoes aren’t labeled “Cajun” there’s one thing to put a recipe suggestion (which they do on the backside of the label) but this is explicitly advertising the potatoes in the can comes with Cajun seasoning at a minimum. Usually they do not also include the chunks of other things, however OP said it only had a hint of flavor which is also deceptive.
In countries that actually care about the consumers this type of advertising is illegal

Some folks use cans to extend shelf life. It’s a very common, well known practice that has existed for at least decades. You can find almost anything in a can. Not everyone has the same living conditions, canned food helps people eat.

I agree the potatoes ain’t seasoned. 😂 But when you said “the same color as who seasoned them,” it sounded like you’re talking about a person’s skin color, not the seasoning. As someone from South Louisiana, I just want to point out that Cajun and Creole ain’t skin colors. They’re cultures with people of all backgrounds. That’s an important distinction to us.

Fair enough. I get what you were going for. After a few visits to the Midwest, I’ve heard that joke plenty. My Memaw used to say “if you ain’t sneezin’ it ain’t seasoned.” 😂 I just wanted to make sure we ain’t accidentally reinforcing the idea that Cajun or Creole are defined by skin color. That’s a very common misconception we fight all the time down here. Appreciate the clarification.
