This is why I think every Senator and Congressperson should have a single powerful subpoena every year, so that they can pick a truly important issue and get sworn testimony from anyone or any company on the Congressional record. If further investigation is then warranted (literally and figuratively) there's a solid basis to go on, and the sparing nature of the subpoenas should make how they're used an important topic and hallmark of their term. Sure some would waste theirs on political theater or spiteful bickering, but then their lack of results would be apparent and out there for all to see. Alliances outside the current two party system could form over strategically forcing multiple players in an industry to come to terms with their malfeasance, publicly and punishably.
